The world building in this book is really standout, and the characters were really well developed. Well paced and a strong plot.

I had to DNF this. I LOVE the cover. IT was just so stunning. However, that's where my love ended. I hate to DNF and I hate when I can't appreciate someone's writing. I just felt this wasn't well written and enjoyable. I was also a bit irritated that the author or their pub sent out numerous emails after I downloaded to post a review and whatnot. I know we get reminders or touch base emails but this was just a lot for a book I didn't care for.

I really hate to give one star ratings and bad reviews. Normally, I can muster up some positives about a book but there was nothing to like about Fabric. The plot made no sense and was so blandly paced that I just didn't care about it. The main issue was the utterly horrendous writing. This is one of the worst written books I have ever endured. It read like a shopping list. There was just telling not showing, page after page of dull descriptions with little to no flow. There are not enough full stops, not enough range in vocabulary (descriptive words are repeated over and over). This book was not for me and I cannot recommend it.

Unfortunately, I cannot give this book a great rating. The world building is not well developed, and we only get a few snippets of why the world is different from the earth that we know. The characters are hollow with no motivations, or even brief explanations of why they are behaving the way they are. I only made it 60% of the way in before I handed in the towel. If these change later in the story, I have no incentive to continue. The "race" aspect was uninspiring and didn't create a sense of urgency well.

I really don't like leaving reviews like this but I was asked for my honest opinion. At best it's unfinished, convoluted, has loose ends that never had a beginning, lifeless characters with almost zero description. Without a doubt the worst fiction I have read in years. I can only hope that the author takes these points into consideration and takes it all apart and starts again.

This is a fantasy novel and as such, a good author takes time to build the world. The beginning of this book was very slow, and to be honest, I was a little confused as to what was going on. But I kept reading, assuming it would all come together, and it did.

I was drawn into the story and the world that was built. It was very different, so it took me a while to visualize, but the author did a great job helping with that.

This was so different, I had to stop and think about what was going on sometimes. But I really recommend this to sci-fi and fantasy lovers. And I will be getting the next book in the series when it comes out.

I want to thank the publisher and net galley for the advance read on this, which didn't affect my review.

I would like to say that the futuristic idea of a detention centre in a different planet which isn't done in any other books. Not much is known about the past of the prisoners or the planet, how they got there, and they have the powers they possess. The author MKH does a great job on keeping the reader focused on the challenge at hand, and Day one of the quest is packed is packed with actions and mysteries. I would recommend this to my friend. And I took sometime to absorb it to comeplete enjoy it

Fabric: Day One Origins Unknown is set on world known as Raeth, a unique place that houses a prison. In this novel, we follow the story of the prisoners when they are set free on a quest to find a cure for a life-threatening disease that they all have.
Though the beginning of the book was a slow one, just like it took some time for Max, our protagonist, to adjust to his surroundings, it is the same for the reader. Once the stage was set, Fabric is a fast-paced novel with interesting characters who possess unique powers and a planet that is beautiful and dangerous at the same time.
I found the concept of a prison on a different planet very futuristic, and not something I read about in a book before. Not much is known about the past of the prisoners or the planet, how they got there, and why they have the powers that they possess. Hussain does a great job on keeping the reader focused on the challenge at hand, and Day One of the quest is packed with action and mysteries.
I would recommend this book for book lovers who would rather not put down a book that they start, are fantasy fans, and are ok with leaving their questions about the world for later, concentrating on the current situation. It is short and sweet and that is another thing I liked about it. Can’t wait to hear Max’s adventures in Day Two! I am thankful for the free reader copy from the publisher and author through NetGalley for an honest review.
