I’ll start by saying this one is above my art skills. I still found it useful. There are a decent number of characters to try. A nice blend of images and text instructions. It’s probably not for beginners and it helps to be proficient in using drawing guides. It doesn’t just focus on drawing, but also offers tips on coloring and shading them. I think I’d put this one at intermediate skills.

Characters in this book:

A lovely guide for the more experienced drawer with detailed instructions- written & pictorial. The mini demonstration was a good starter but the majority are quite complex. Would have liked to have seen more easier to draw images, as the images were beautiful.

Very Cool... Absolutely perfect for my twelve year old grandson. He loves to draw and usually does a really good job. With the help of this little jewel of a book, he's been filling up his art book, page after page. Just really wish it hadn't expired..!!

This is a drawing instruction book with examples of how to draw cartoony baby animals, most of them mythological creatures. The cute is strong with this one.

It starts out with practical information about tools and materials, including different coloring mediums like pencils, paints, markers and crayons. There is also instruction for electronic drawing.

It gets into working with shapes, learning to stretch and squash them so that your creatures can be moved into different positions. It gives shapes for constructing bodies with perspective, dividing the head in ways to place features realistically, as much as a cartoon is realistic.

My own first attempt had the front legs way too long, but it's the sort of thing that a little practice can improve. The instructions touch on shading and detail work, but not extensively.

As with most drawing books, the author makes the process look easy, but practice will soon reveal how easy it isn't on a first try. Some people will always be more naturally adept at drawing than others. Still, working with shapes and segments does result in a passable creature even for the inexperienced artist.

This is one to sit down and work with, learning by trial and error. It would be a great book for a child who shows artistic interest, as the lessons in shapes and perspective would develop their technical drawing skills.

Oh my God, this was too hard.

I was feeling inspired by Karen's review on How to Draw Cute Animals and I thought it would be great bonding experience with my son. We got excited and after few glitches in opening books, we both were able to open and the horror!

It is nothing like 'How to Draw Cute Animals', I will try to post some pictures once I got moment but it was total fiasco from my part. It would be amazing for experienced users, this could be amazing but for me it was total fail

This how-to book teaches you to draw baby monsters from a wide variety of myths and legends. Each tutorial begins with a description of the creature, it's habitat and characteristics.

The creatures you learn to draw are all so adorable, and lovingly ferocious. The steps are easy to follow, and the final products are beautiful. The drawing skill level is perfect for young people and those wanting to expand their skill sets.
The descriptions and intros are very creatively written, and you go on a bit of a journey through the worlds of myth and fantasy as you read through this beautiful book. I loved the wide variety of creatures represented, from the classic Dragon to the Japanese Raiju, to the Greek Minotaur, the world is represented across these gorgeously illustrated pages.

This would make a grade gift for middle grade kids or a friend who just loves beasties!

What cute baby beasties to create!

For a slightly more practiced artist (while there are many of the beginning pieces about materials, etc., discussed, a true beginner will need a slightly more in-depth guide), this book is extremely inclusive of all the mythic creatures in their baby forms. From a mini-mermaid to a just hatched basilisk, and every other beastie between, if fantasy is your goal, this book has it.

The concept of this book is very intriguing. I'd love to draw cute baby beasties! Unfortunately the format (I had a copy for kindle) is seriously off and lacking. The pages are sideways and don't fill the screen even halfway, everything is all jumbled having pages completely out of order, and it seems things may be missing, although it's hard to tell with the page numbers jumping around so sporadically. I am able to turn my screen and read some of the print. It does seem to have some helpful tidbits about colors, shading, and such. The pictures (the ones that aren't cut in half anyway) are super cute and I was able to use some of them to sketch. I think if the formatting issues aren't present in a physical copy of this book, that I'd actually love to have a copy.

I really loved this! It's just great to have found a book that instructs you how to draw cute imaginary creatures, instead of more mundane everyday animals and objects, or cartoon-like figures. The little "bio's" and the drawing tips were fantastic and a wonderful inspiration. For true amateurs like myself it would have easier if there had been a couple more additional steps included, but it was still a lot of fun to try and draw these adorable baby beasties together with my kids.

Draw Baby Beasties: Create Little Dragons, Unicorns, Mermaids and More by Lindsay Cibos-Hodges, Jared Hodges is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. This book has beautiful art to go along with the many step-by-step instructions. I loved how cute the many creatures are. Some of the demonstrations seemed to be a bit more than beginners level. Enjoyed this book!

Draw Baby Beasties is freaking adorable from front to back. I'm a huge fan of the Impact Art books. Each one of them is worth the buy.
Heaps of step by step guides and a little description about each mythical beast so your creative juices can flow and you can integrate or come up with your own ideas.
I can highly recommend this for people of any age who love mythical fantasy creatures and art.

Thank you very much Netgalley for providing me with a copy.

Draw Baby Beasties is a new tutorial chibi art guide from Lindsay Cibos-Hodges & Jared Hodges. Due out 18th June 2019 from F+W Media on the Impact imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format.

The book's introduction (~10%) covers materials and some very basic treatment of shading, building up drawings with simple shapes, and the drawing process. The tutorial instructions are concise and easy to understand.

The following tutorials include 27 (by my count) baby/juvenile fantasy creatures. The tutorials include step by step instructions showing how the drawings are built up. They are 4 pages each and include alternate poses. All of the tutorials include a short introduction and history of the creature along with a cute sidebar with suggested 'stats' for each of them (speed, strength, magic, cunning, and special abilities). Sort of DIY Pokemon style. The tutorials show line drawn/graphite base drawings and progress to a final colored version.

I have to say the Jackalope (p. 26) and the Baby Yeti (p. 30) are about the cutest things I've ever seen. They're all pretty cute, though. There are hours and hours of drawing fun for all readers here. This would make a great art/drawing unit for school or homeschooling, a super summer activity at home or the library, or a summer camp activity. Several of the tutorials are for Asian inspired fantasy creatures (kitsune, raiju, naga, shishi), as well as other cultures (quetzalcoatl and zaratan) so it's not just baby dragons, gryphons, and gargoyles.

Five stars, super appealing and something here for all ages.

This is the best learning to draw books I have seen for kids and adults. It breaks down the basics it shapes and how to use them to begin to form actual creatures. Their instructions are concise and easy to follow as well as the ability to conceptualize. The baby animals are adorable and this would be a keeper for your shelves to use to teach yourself or others how to make the cutest baby monsters.

This is an excellent book to guide a beginning artist in drawing baby fantasy creatures. This book is highly recommended for purchase.
