I've got a liking for Dena Blake as an author and the way she tells a good story. Having read 'Just One Moment' I wasn't disappointed.
The characters Chloe and Shay are both likeable, but what I liked most about this book is the taboo subject.....shock horror .....one of them has had an affair while married. For once an author writing about something that does go on in real life, we don't all have that perfect, loved up, cute, fairy tale life. I loved that even though Shay has had an affair and been caught red handed her character wasn't portrayed as evil, nasty, spoilt human being.
I also think this book has left an opening for a follow on book, I personally would love to hear how Rachel gets on in life.
Would I recommend, yes, a good enjoyable book
3.5 Stars. Not my favorite by Blake but I still enjoyed it. It’s funny that while I’m not usually a fan of over the top, soap opera like angst, I don’t mind it in Blake’s books. Besides her book Racing Hearts, (which I’m just going to pretend never existed and so should readers everywhere) her last four books have been pretty darn entertaining. If you want angst, go have fun with Blake.
Infidelity! Dun, dun, dun. It’s one of those single words that can get people to pass on a book in an instant. I’ve personally found that I have done about a 180 on this subject. I still don’t care to read about it…but and there is a but, if the author bases the whole story around it, including the aftermath and should or shouldn’t the characters stick together, I am much more okay with it. I don’t like infidelity as a cheap plot gimmick that is used in one chapter and quickly forgotten/forgiven after two more chapters. Luckily, Blake used the former and while it was plenty angsty and soap opera worthy, it was the good soap opera kind, the entertaining kind and not the we’re just sweeping it under the rug kind.
Is everyone going to like both characters? Probably not, and to be honest I’m not sure if I really cared for either of the two mains. In a brilliant plot twist, amnesia is involved. As a reader can you hate a cheater if they don’t remember they cheated? What an interesting question that this book brings right to the reader. Interestingly enough the answer was no I couldn’t “hate her” but for other reasons not even touching on the cheating, well she wasn’t my favorite character. Both characters were a bit immature and made me feel like a very old 37 year-old. And even though I am very much a character driven reader, Blake’s angst filled plot it what kept me going. I didn’t care that I didn’t really like the characters I just wanted to know what happened next.
Am I recommending this one? Yes. As much as I expect readers will have some mixed feelings about this book since it is about the big bad infidelity, I can’t help but recommend it anyway. Is this a book I will remember in six months’ time after I read another 100 books, no probably not, but I had fun reading it and I’ll never complain about being entertained.
This story was a complete rollercoaster. There were so many ups and downs, and twists and turns. Kudos to the author who came up with a unique and interesting premise - a married couple is separated but forced back together because of a devastating car accident followed by memory loss. Great set-up for a book and the story was worth reading. A few pet peeves were that there was so much unnecessary and at times annoying drama - even for a book in this genre, I felt there was too much. Some of the characters were not believable (the other women and the physical therapist) and the physical therapist should have been left out completely as she added no value to the story.
Overall, pretty good but a bit over the top.
Affairs, not my favorite read. I believe if you are not satisfied and happy with your relationship, leave, do not cheat. I read because I liked that one or both of the individuals was unsure if they wanted the relationship to end. Shay Buchanan and Chole Jensen are difficult to like. As the story unfolds, I found myself wanting to learn more about why they did what they did and what they were planning to do moving forward. I liked how Chloe stood by her woman as Shay struggled to recover from the car accident. This read proved to be entertaining and offered some insight and food for thought for long term relationships.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Chloe trying to move on without Shay while trying to settle into a new life. Shay is trying to save her marriage and she keeps hitting roadblocks.
Shay not ready to let go of Chloe goes to the beach house to ask forgiveness where she sees Chloe new girlfriend Erica and realize they are living together heartbroken that she lost Chloe forever she runs to her car and get into a terrible accident.
When Shay wakes up she is confused doesn't remember what has happened and she confused about why Chloe is so distant when she thinks they are happy.
Chloe feels she has to take care of Shay while she recover as she helps Shay they begin to grow closer again Chloe struggles with forgiving Shay as she starts to fall back in love with her.
I like that this was a second chance at love you get two people who loved each other intensely but life got in the way and you lost yourself but in the end you came back because you know this time it's forever.
I normally don't like infidelity stories even though it was a part of the story it was mainly about two people who got a chance to do it right.
Chloe Jensen is finally moving on with her life after her wife Shay Buchanan cheats on her. Shay suspects Chloe always was having an affair and when she comes back to their beach house to beg forgiveness, finds Chloe's new girlfriend has already moved in. Shay, totally devastated, takes off and is involved in a car accident and her memory of her infidelities, the breakdown of her and Chloe's relationship is completely wiped so she believes their relationship is still perfect.
I was a bit unsure of this storyline at first as it involves cheating, betrayal and of course, devastation but wow, what a fascinating story. Shay and Chloe had always loved each other intensely but life got in the way of their relationship and through flashbacks and journal extractions their story slowly unfolds. We're taken on a journey of such extreme and raw and passionate emotions, I lost my weekend with this book, I couldn't put it down. It was really well written and the storyline was completely different to the usual lesfic stories. Definitely 5 stars from me.
This is my first Blake book and I have to admit she writes very well!
While this book is about infidelity, for some odd reason I couldn’t put it down! This topic is very sensitive to everyone including me, but the author managed to get me involved so much into the lives of the characters and their feelings that I ended up rooting for them to get back together wholeheartedly! See, forgiveness sometimes works people and this one did work for me :)
The 2 MCs had unbelievable chemistry once the accident happened. When I rate a book, I rate it according to how I feel about it, how much I liked the characters and felt their connection, how it’s written and how much it entertained me. For me this one hit all the spots and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

A soap opera.
Chloe is an artist and married to Shay who is an actuary. Shay cheats on Chloe with a coworker. After 6 months of separation, Chloe moves on with another woman. Shay finds out. Distraught and distracted, she gets in a serious car accident. Chloe must decide if she should provide support for her wife or ship her off to Shay's homophobic parents.
First, I have to say that I was thoroughly entertained throughout this book. There was always some sort of drama happening. It was predictable, but still kept me engaged.
Even though this deals with infidelity, the author does a good job at giving us glimpses into what caused the rift between Chloe and Shay that led to the betrayal. And I think she did a good job at showing how it could be possible to fall back in love with someone who has broken your heart.
This really did read like a soap opera, though. It felt like we were a part of every sequential moment of their lives. And some of it seemed repetitive because something would happen from one of their POV and then in the next chapter we would read about it from the other's POV. Just in a slightly different way.
This did not have flashbacks per-say. But there are journal entries being read all of the time that feel flashback-like. It wasn't bothersome, though. It seemed like a creative way to reveal certain things.
What was the point of Jackson and Whitney getting pregnant? That literally had no impact on the story what-so-ever. And this isn't a spoiler specifically because of that.
Overall, this was an OK read.
I recommend to people who like DRAMA RAMA, angst, hospitals, therapies, jealousy, non-communication, art, beach houses, Florida, Tahoes, and onion flavored pizza.

An opportunity to start afresh because you can't remember what happened for most of the last year. A devastating but reasonably warm novel which looks into love despite infidelity.
How do you reconcile what's happened and move forward when your partner has been injured and doesn't recall almost the last year?
Dena Blake puts together a good novel tackling this difficult situation. I liked it but didn't love it.
3.5 stars
I have never been a fan of infidelity books. I think that's the romantic in me. I can take angst, drama, miscommunication, even breakups that lead to sleeping with other before the mains get back together and live happily ever after. But for some odd reason cheating has also been a turn off for me and books. Despite that though, I felt drawn to this book and read it, not reluctantly but eagerly. Weird I know.
The book really is just centered around the two main characters, Shay and Chloe. The other characters each played their roles but seemed on the very outside hust adding to the two mains turmoil or understanding of the overall situation. Would it have been better to make the infidels more present in the story? I'm not sure but I am glad they weren't. I enjoyed how Chloe and Shay were flawed and how much Chloe struggled within herself. She didnt easily come to terms one or another with the Erica, Shay, Rachel, Lila, and everything else. I enjoyed how when Shay "discovered" what happen there was disbelieve and an attempt to make it right without being too much in a sense.
This is the first book I have read by Dena Blake and I hope to rectify that soon. I really enjoyed this book with its flaws and all. And I really liked the characters. I give it an easy 4.5*
***ARC from Netgalley for an honest review from me :) ***
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This book was filled with angst and pain from the start. As the story progressed and the reader got to know the characters I felt torn between who Shay is and her past actions that destroyed her relationship with Chloe. There was a lot of moving pieces with and as much as the angst and pain affected me and caused me to really dislike this book at times, the real human emotions and pain that the author put into the book and made me feel did make it a good read.
I wasn't 100% sure what to expect from Just One Moment but wanted to take a chance on reading it. This second chance romance is about Chloe and Shay. They have been together for 5 years and are now married, but separated because Shay cheated. After reading about this one, I just had a hard time believing that Shay would cheat. That didn't take away from the book and I still enjoyed it, but I would really think that Chloe might cheat before either one. As I read this book, I started to reflect on real life and if I could really see this story happening. The answer is YES. Even though these two people have such love for each other, it does show how others can exploit those that are vulnerable. Of course this story would not be complete if some of their past wasn't shared and I liked how the author choose to present it. I honestly really like this one and couldn't wait to see if Chloe and Shay would stay together or be headed for divorce.
4 stars!
This book is all about soul-searching and moving on from infidelity in a relationship. Despite this wafer-thin plot, the book is written brilliantly and the characters developed beautifully.
Shay Buchanan and Chloe Jensen are married and have been together for five years. Theirs was a honeymoon-forever kind of love. However, in the past year, their relationship was strangled by silence and Shay had an affair with a colleague and six months back, they separated. Chloe is in the process of trying to move on. Shay goes to plead with her to get back, but as she is leaving, she gets involved in an accident. Chloe, to whom Shay still matters, is solidly there to look after Shay in the hospital and after she is discharged. The accident has wiped out the past year from Shay’s mind. She doesn’t remember anything about their relationship unravelling and her own role in it. Chloe is struggling with multiple emotions pulling her in various directions.
Dealing with infidelity has to be one of the most difficult things in a relationship. The author does a wonderful job getting into Chloe’s head and heart during this phase. Shay, with all her grand gestures of love, seems to be lacking the depth of feeling that Chloe has.
This is not a particularly light or fast read, but it is a completely engrossing, and Chloe is someone we’d really love to have in our life. We absolutely cannot imagine someone wanting to, much less actually cheating on her.
More angst than romance. The characters are likable enough. It was a bit confusing at some parts with names and pronounce being switched. Overlooked by the editor.
If you can take a story full of angst than you'll like this book. The romance is mostly in the past through diaries and flashbacks.
It's more about angst than romance, an okay story with likeable characters. The writing is done well, so if you are into angst, prtfrvt story for you
A well written romance with much angst and emotion. The characters were very likable and the story was interesting. I think this is the first romance I've read that had to do with infidelity. The storyline was captivating and kept me reading. Normally you read about girl meets girl and girl is attracted to girl and they live happily ever after. This was about a relationship and the work to make it work. I really liked it and will recommend to my students.
Wow, if you like melodrama between the main characters for basically the whole book then you are in for a treat! I personally am ok with it, although I would have liked a little more happier times for these two.
Basically, you have Chloe being forced to spend time with her wife that has "done something to their relationship" but doesn't remember that fact after an accident. So you can imagine all kinds of internal torment that is rampant in this book.
Side characters were ok. There was a little too much internal dialogue but was kind of expected because every interaction between them brought on the cases of "should I tell her, do I want to tell her...yada yada".
Writing was great. I'd read another book from this author so that's a plus. Overall a pretty good, yet slightly tension filled, read.
This book is a masterpiece. That is an incredible statement for me to say because personally I would find it extremely difficult to believe that a relationship could truly survive infidelity. This book has changed my mind, and changed my perspective as well. Shay and Chloe are faced with exactly that situation. The author adroitly captures the crushing heartbreak, the seething jealousy, the vacant despair, and the cold-hearted abandonment of trust in the one person who betrayed everything. However, fate has a way of throwing plot shattering cannonballs that force a person to reevaluate everything whether you want to or not. Secondary characters play a pivotal role in deciding whether Shay and Chloe will survive, but nothing about this book is predictable other than the initial emotional onslaught of betrayal upon discovery. Set aside any preconceived notion and take this journey with Shay and Chloe, and I guarantee that you will have a lot to think about long after the last page is read. I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have enjoyed all of Dena Blake’s books and the synopsis of this book entrigued me. But after reading the entire thing I have to say that this is my least favorite of all of her books. Chloe and Shay’s relationship was in shambles prior to Shay’s accident. Fortunately or unfortunately when Shay awoke from her medically induced coma, she couldn’t remember the past year. The lack of communication between the two mains and the absolute lack of respect they had for one another prior to and after the accident really put me off. There was so much back and forth drama and angst with the same issue being discussed over and over. I honestly liked both main characters, which I attribute to Dena’s great writing, but I honestly didn’t care whether they worked it out or not.
