I received this book and since it was part of a series I thought I'd get caught up, so I started with the first book The Birthday Mystery and I got about 20 pages in and had to put the book down . The author must have a problem with large women, as she made mention of Jenny Starling's weight and size in almost every paragraph. I found this completely unnecessary and extremely rude. It got bad enough that I just couldn't read anymore. I myself am not a large woman, but do not like when people of different sizes, races, nationalities or religions are singled out and picked on. It's uncalled for and I refuse to read any more books by this author, so I didn't even read this book. I think she needs to look inside herself and figure out why she feels the need to insult a whole group of people to sell books.

To be fair, I'm not usually a fan of books set in England, however, this book was well written and easy to read.
Jenny is a traveling cook, and her current position as a fill in chef during a Renaissance festival quickly becomes a murder mystery when a dead body is found.
I think that Jenny is a good character and I might be willing to read another book in this series.

This time, we find Jenny in a lovely country inn... over a weekend with lots of people who come to be a part of a play and of course, eat delicious food.
The food is not the problem, it is the fact that someone gets killed. No surprise there, because that is what happens in this series. No suprise either that there is a large group of suspects, the police is baffled and Jenny has to help them solve the crime.
I love this series because it is like reading a big puzzle; you are given all clues, there are some red herrings in between and there is always that little twist you can't see coming.

Thank you Netgalley and Joffe books for this digital review copy.

At a little over 150 pages, this addition to the Jenny Starling Series is a quick read. Jenny is hired to act to cook as a vacation stand-in for a friend at a country inn where the weekend includes an amateur dramatics mystery. As usual, Jenny is unlucky enough to be a near witness to a murder, and is (reluctantly) able to help the police solve it. I prefer my Starling mysteries with more food descriptions, but this is as entertaining otherwise as usual.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Country Inn Mystery by Faith Martin is well presented cozy mystery at its best.

Although a seventh book in the series, which somehow escaped my notice when I requested the book, I had absolutely no trouble to follow the story as it can be perfectly read as a standalone.

I didn't mind the fact that murder happened at the end of the first third of the book. I quite enjoyed getting to know the participants, and learning quite a lot about Regency cuisine.
It has that old fashioned murder mystery feel that reminds me of A.Christie which is always a big plus in my book.

Likable main character, very intelligent and down to earth. Other characters are equally well portrayed and presented. Beautiful setting and story involving amateur actors. Very engaging and absorbing.

Jenny Starling is a travelling cook, working at the moment in a lovely inn, recreating Regency menu for the group of amateur actors and their followers. Even though there are some tensions in the air, all is going well until the leading actress, beautiful and talented girl ends up dead. Like it or not Jenny is in the middle of it, regardless of how much she hates it she will need to help out the local police and bring murdered to justice.

First of all I must thank Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan of this author, having read all of her Ryder and Loveday (R & L) series, and quite a few of the DI Hillary Greene series. This is the first of the Jenny Starling series I have read and won't be the last.
It reads as if it could be a play, as it only really has a few locations. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
I liked the character of Jenny Starling a bit of a modern day Miss Marple., At first I was struggling to identify the time period this was set in, partly because of the R & L series and coming into the series at book 7. In fact it is a bit timeless, with a quaint little village with slow pace and not that much modern police procedures.
I read this book in one sitting, partly due to its pace and partly due to being relatively short (175 pages)

Overall a good read and I will be reading the earlier books to catch up and look forward to the next in the series.

Faith Martin has written The Country Inn Mystery, the seventh book in her Jenny Starling, traveling cook series. Once again, Jenny has been hired for a temporary assignment, covering the kitchen at the Spindlewood Inn, owned by Richard and Muriel Sparkey, while her friend(Patsy Vine) is on holiday. Patsy takes her annual time off at the end of the summer busy season, but since the Sparkey's are hosting a 'Regency Extravaganza' weekend, the inn is booked, and Jenny will be busy cooking her 'delicious food'( just let anyone disagree and see what happens) and hoping for an uneventful weekend. For those who haven't read the earlier books, wherever Jenny goes, murder is sure to be on the menu!
This was a quick read that I finished in one evening. Rachel Norman is the victim, and her pleasant personality(not), means that almost everyone who crossed her path is a potential suspect. Jenny winds up assisting the police in uncovering the whodunnit and why, when once again, the police are ready to arrest the wrong suspect. This series can be read out of order since Jenny finds employment at different locations in every book. A good book, especially if you like to read along, deciphering the clues, and making your best guess as to the identity of the killer.
I received a DRC from Joffe Books through NetGalley.

The country Inn Mystery is an intriguing story about a cook who always seems to find murder wherever her next job takes her. The characters are interesting and help to keep you guessing as to who the murderer is. Lots of twists to keep you reading until the end.
