Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Treasures of Ancient Egypt by Nigel Fletcher-Jones is a gorgeous book detailing the archaeology of a most fascinating culture. Through over 150 stunning photographs, and engaging prose, some of the most well-known (and some not so well-known) aspects of ancient Egypt are explored. From the pyramids, to the grave goods of Tutankhamun, to delicate papyri etched with hieroglyphs, these photos span the breadth of the Egyptian dominance. It should be noted that this is primarily an art book rather than an archaeological text, but it's still worth adding as a supplement to an archaeological library. It's also the perfect coffee table conversation piece.

***Many thanks to Netgalley and Amber Books for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Thanks to Amber Books and NetGalley for the Advance Review Copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book contains some of the most stunningly beautiful photographs of Ancient Egyptian treasures that I have ever seen in a book on the subject and I have read many.

A wide range of artefacts are covered including architecture, jewellery, tombs and art amongst others. There is supplementary information to accompany the images but it is still very much an art book. Sometimes books of this type try to be both but this collection stayed in its lane.

A great book for anyone who is interested in looking at antiquities (who isn't?), I've ordered myself a print copy for my classroom.

By necessity a book of this type providing an overview of the period that Ancient Egypt covers will only provide brief notes. However this book is surprisingly comprehensive in its achievements as the changes in politics, architecture, jewellery and artistic styles are shown. The problem is that there are a multitude of examples to choose from and whilst there are many images that are familiar there are also many less so. The quality of photographs in this book show the richness of the archaeological riches of the country. Having read this book it is to be hoped that many will use it as a springboard to investigate more about different periods, however the author gives no sample lists of further reading which is a missed opportunity. The timeline at the rear of the book could have been designed better and the information in it needs to be consistent with the text. These last two things are however minor niggles in a well produced book.

What a delightful book this is. I have to admit that I might be considered biased having first visited Egypt in 1966 and many times since. I have had the pleasure of seeing many of these works of art "in the flesh" and today some are no longer accessible. Therefore to have this opportunity to revisit them has been a joy.

If you love Egyptian art(efacts), treat yourself to this book and revel in its contents.

So interesting! Ancient Egypt is one of my favourite times in History to read about, so will definitely be flipping through this again.

When I first saw the cover of this book, i was hit with a beautiful nostalgia. When I was a kid I would look through all of these books that were in my brother’s room. One was a book about the Egyptians. It was one of those books that inspires and moves you to want to learn more about ancient history.
While this book isn’t a republication, it certainly holds that beauty within its pages. It’s a information journey that I’d like to think would inspire the next generation to Love history too.
