Thank you to NetGalley and Arcturus Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Though I am not the target audience for this book I really did enjoy the message that it was putting across. Fairy Tales for Fearless Girls is just that, a collection of diverse females who are strong and incredibly brave. It shows their sacrifice, their strength and most of all the confidence they have in themselves.

I love Disney but I must admit that the traditional stories didn’t help with woman empowerment instead it taught girls that you need true love in order to survive and strive. This book does the complete opposite, it takes girls from all around the world and shows that they don’t care about social norms and to quote the introduction “couldn’t give two hoots about doing what is expected of them”.

I really liked this, and I love the message its giving to young girls.

Thank you for Netgalley and Arcturus for an advanced copy of this.

Whilst we are not short of stories of brave young girls/women of late, I really like the multicultural and multinational aspect of this collection. There are a number of these kinds of books around but I have not yet seen any with such a diverse collection of stories. In additional, there is a strong sense of family and sisterhood woven throughout the stories which I greatly appreciate.

I am not the target audience for this collection but I enjoyed it none the less! I read the collection in one sitting and thought the art was lovely and fitted well with the writing.

I will say, there was a few mentions of beauty throughout some stories which I think could be completely removed as they do not add value and hark back too closely to the female stories of old. They are few and far between but it is something I do not enjoy or think necessary, however it did not damper my enjoyment of the other stories.

4/5
