I honestly felt it was a bit slow at times. BUT, I did not see the ending coming. Twisted and turns.
Thanks, NetGalley for the advance copy.

I have been devouring "domestic thrillers" lately and was a bit worried after I requested this that it would be a duplicate to what seems to be an "over saturated" genre but I was pleasantly surprised. The book kept me engaged and staying up a little later to finish a few more pages. It was a fresh take on this genre and it pleasantly surprised me.

This story is centred on Ava, who at first glance appears to have a wonderful life - husband, children, big house, no money worries. However, we begin to see cracks in the facade almost straight away - she has two girls with her husband, plus a son from his first marriage who appears to be going off the rails and causes jealousy in the family. We get hints that she resents the pregnancy that resulted in her abandoning her college studies and burgeoning career as an artist.

And then she comes home to find strangers invading her home and her daughter is seriously injured, and that's just the beginning of a spiral of events that change her safe and lovely life forever.

Finding her husband has kept secrets about their finances, and then that her family is still in danger as further attempts are made on her injured daughter's life, Ava does not know who to trust. Why do these people hate her family so much?

The story keeps us guessing who is involved and who is innocent right until the end. I was not convinced by some of the final outcomes, but overall it was a gripping and interesting story and I enjoyed reading it.

Ava lives with her loving, successful husband in a beautiful house – a $3 million mansion in fact. Her step-son lives in an apartment over the garage, her eldest daughter is in New York studying and her youngest – ah, her youngest! 12 year old Jane is a cancer survivor and as such is very much centre stage in Ava’s life.

A home invasion spins Ava into a vortex, it leaves both her and her husband injured and Jane in a coma fighting for her life. Ava has limited memory of the events surrounding the home invasion but her recollections are crucial to the investigations – can she identify the intruders? Her efforts to remember raises questions in her mind; what happened when Roger was escorted from the kitchen – what happened when the intruder took Jane upstairs? When the sheriff informs her that some of her jewellery has been found and then that her husband is bankrupt it leads to more confusion, more questions and paranoia.

So far that might just sound like your average, home invasion type story. To some degree that is what I thought when I first started reading: yes, I was enjoying it but then… Oh my goodness! It went from strength to strength. I went this way and that (probably a bit like Ava) trying to figure it all out. Ah! It is definitely that person – oh, perhaps not then. I have to stop talking about the plot now – spoilers. Enough to say that I was surprised right until the last couple of pages. Hats off to you Ms Alderson, you are clever. One more thing, 5 stars are just not enough. Loved it!

Ava has everything- handsome, rich husband, two beautiful daughters, a home in the best part of town. Until one night when she is assaulted in her home, following a burglary, which also leaves her youngest daughter critically ill. Her ex, Nate, is the investigating officer, convinced that Ava’s husband, Robert is the instigator of the plan. Ava wants to believe in her husband, so sets out to find the truth but can she handle the truth? A fast-paced tale, red herrings galore, credible characters, full of twists and turns to the very last page. Excellent book, I look forward to the next one.

A story of family, love, tragedy and fi ding out people are not always who you think they are.

I loved the mums tenacity and strength of character. And i enjoyed that even at the end there was a question not answered.

This books has increased my paranoia levels to amber levels verging on red.
A call from a good friend in need of a shoulder to cry on puts the brakes on an anniversary dinner. A call from a young daughter puts the end to a sleepover. Headlights part way down the drive - where is her older stepson going? When did her eldest daughter get involved with the sheriff's deputy?
From start to finish this book cries "liar", but who is lying?
One or all.

This is a skilful, dark novel, well written and edgy. I really enjoyed it and read it quickly. Good characterisation and plot with twists and turns.

Mini review:

A quick, clever and ferocious read that keeps you locked in until the very last sentence.

Carefully written to produce the ultimate who did it crime, but with blatant obvious pointers showing who it is from start to finish. Pointers you will not find until that very last sentence of that very last chapter though.

A shocker from start to finish.
A powerful pull on family life, love and motherhood.
A plot that does not stop giving!
A book that is for sure a contender for book of the year 2019! And one you certainly won’t forget in a hurry.

5/5

A fantastic thrill-ride the whole way through. Sarah Alderson sets a steady mood of trepidation and mystery surrounding a well-paced plot. Overall, the characters are dynamic and well-crafted. Some of the cast does get favored more in expansion than the others which results in a minor disconnect to those characters specifically, leaving some open-ended questions. However, this is trivial and rather than pulling from the plot, it seems to create more of an emotional attachment to the primary characters. Experiencing Alderson’s foreshadowing and the antagonist fruition come to light is entertaining and that tiny fissure of doubt she places right there at the end…genius. A great novel for book clubs everywhere.

This book definitely had twists. From the first page to the very end, I shifted my idea about who was responsible multiple times. I honestly felt like I was living the journey with the main character, as it’s told from a diary format with a few references to the past. This poor woman has the roughest week of her life and just when you think it can’t get any worse, somehow, it does. I’m amazed at how she picks up the pieces and uses her wits to keep going. Some of the parts are a bit far-fetched, but I overlooked those because I really enjoyed the story. This was definitely a edge of your seat thriller and a really quick read. I’d recommend reading this book when you have time because you won’t want to put it down.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Twists and turns abound in this domestic thriller and kept me reading late into the night. I loved it. A home invasion and many different theories make this book well worth reading.

This was an unusual twist on the domestic thriller, it kept me turning pages and I thoroughly enjoyed it, It generally rises above its own formulaicness but the ending was too obvious. I enjoyed the first 80% so I can’t really complain much. The protagonist has a bad case of TSTL but she is still likable. 3.5 easy

4-5 stars! I absolutely love this author and the way she writes psychological thrillers. While I didn’t quite love this one as much as the last, I still was hooked from the first page and hardly able to set it down. She is very good at building that intense rush us thriller junkies seek! Thrilling, chilling, shocking, tense, and absolutely unputdownable! Can’t wait for the next Alderson book!
Will be highly recommending to the members of Chapter Chatter Pub!

In Her Eyes

I raced through this at break neck speed loving every single minute. From beginning to end it had me hooked so much so my eyeballs were stinging because I couldn’t tear myself away from the pages. Thrilling, fast paced read. Highly recommended. 5 big juicy stars from me.

I’d rate In Her Eyes as the average thriller, it’s a fast paced story that will have you reading at an unholy speed but I’ve left disappointed by the ending, it’s so obvious that I thought it was a red herring! Other than that it was enjoyable although I would only recommend to casual readers.
