I loved the relationships in this graphic novel. From the friendship to the family relationships. This book was a great mix of fantasy and cozy! This is the ideal book for fall.
While the art was amazing, I didn't really connect with the characters and the plot was just okay to me. It was still a good book but I didn’t love it like I wanted to.

I absolutely adored this book! I really liked all the characters, the representation the art style, and all the fantasy surrounding witches. I really appreciate that this featured a hard-of-hearing witch and a nonbinary werewolf, and the fact that they are both Chinese-American. I didn't want to put this down once I started reading and I can't wait to recommend this to friends.
Perhaps I'm not the target audience. I thought I was just ok. I couldn't really connect with Tam or Nova. My favorite characters were the fun witchy grandmothers. Still, it's a unique story with lots of representation without feeling gimmicky.
This is a super cute queer graphic novel including romance, wolves, and witchcraft! Who could ask for anything more? The art was great and the story had great representation for not only the queer community, but the deaf community as well.
Graphic novels are not normally my thing because I like more character development, but I enjoyed it for what it was. It also contains multiple cute grandmas!
This book is adorable and so full of positivity that I recommend everyone in need a little happiness boost gets a copy and reads it, comfortably sitting in their couch/bed with a hot chocolate. I definitely needed that.
Nova is a sweet witch, Tam is a dorky werewolf and together, they make the cutest couple. There is a plot, involving a cult going after Tam and their werewolf magic, and a demon spirit in the forest, but it's more of a background for the romance, really. I loved every bit of it, from the grandmas helping to Tam's silly jokes, the ultimate cuteness of the art (so many cats, omg...), the spirits in the forest, the ending, ... It's basically one big pile of softness and warmth that will bring a smile to your face. I'm so glad I finally, FINALLY found a physical copy so I can reread it whenever I feel a bit blue.
Go for it, you won't regret it!
A extremely cute and fun adventure/mystery comic. Perfect little quick read for fall.
Really enjoyed the art style and how it told the story.
Delightful story and great represetnation.
I loved how we didn't need tons of back story on HOW the magic worked or anything. I liked being thrown right into this moving plot around the demon.
Mooncakes follows the story of Nova, a teen witch working at her grandmother's bookshop, where, she sells spellbooks. One night, she hears the tale of a white wolf wandering in the woods and decides to investigate. She finds out that the beast is in fact her childhood friend Tam, battling against a horse demon.
I absolutely loved the artwork and style of this comic. The color tones where matching the witchy atmosphere of the story, and it was really easy to follow.
I enjoyed how the book included important subjects such as character being gender neutral, disabilities...
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone!
Cutest book ever!!!!!’ I absolutely adored it. First comic style book I’ve read in YEARS tbh, and it was so well written, drawn. Everything. The characters were amazing too and I loved all the relationships in it.
This was an interesting graphic novel about witches, werewolves, friendship, love and magic. The artwork of the novel was really nice and I enjoyed the story and the characters. This was the perfect time of year to read this book!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute romance and interesting characters. I enjoyed the family dynamics and loved the use of the found family trope in the story. Also loved the lgbt rep. Didn’t love the plot but it was still enjoyable.
This book is so adorable. The illustrations are beautiful. Nova Huang is a young girl who works at her grandmothers bookstore where she helps loan out spell books Her grandmothers do have magical powers. One night Nova follows a white wolf into the woods. It turns out to be her childhood crush and friend Tam Lang. He is battling a horse demon. Tang seeks to Nova for help. With the help of her grandmother and her new discovered powers they help find out what other spirits are in the town. This book is cute, sweet, LGBTQ and all the magic.
This was such a cute, quick read! I loved the style of the artwork and it was overall a really fun and enjoyable story. Tam and Nova are so adorable together and Nova has the coolest grandmas. There are witches and werewolves and black cats and such great diversity and representation among the characters! If you're a fan of graphic novels, magic, and LGBTQ+ rep then this is definitely for you!
Thank you so much to Oni Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
This has been a long time coming! I finally read this and I am sad to say that this was just alright. I wasn’t really connecting with the characters really and the plot was just alright to me. It was still a good book but I didn’t love it like I wanted to. This was just a middle of the road graphic novel for me specifically. :(
Honestly one of my favorite graphic novels ever!! Cute witches, an even cuter and soft romance and the colors! Best read in the fall, this will get you in the perfect autumn feels
Cute and amazing story about a witch and her werewolve girl-friend
it has a amazing plot and just the cutest art style!
This was a cute book and I really liked the drawing style. I didn't love it but I think it's one of those books that are nice to spend your time with and read while you're drinking tea in bed.
Perfect for Halloween time or autumn/fall. This graphic novel features witches and a werewolf and is all around just so cute, it also has queer characters which is perfect! The art style I love and it's something that you can reread again when it comes to that spooky time of the year.
A lovely, magical fall romance between a witch and a warewolf - I cannot wait to reread the finished copy during Pumpkin Spice season. My only complaint is that the story seems to start right in the middle - like I'd started on book 2 of a series without having read book 1. It gets less confusing if you stick with it, but Still, I love the illustrations with their rich, autumn colors and the sweet LGBTQ romance between Nova and Tam. It melted my cold, dead millennial heart. This will definitely become a go-to Halloween read for me
It is a lovely story with diverse caracters and it leaves you wanting more, wanting to know more about all the characters and follow them in more adventures!
