Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
It's another thriller with no likeable characters. Finn is a liar, Philip is a sleaze, Amabel is a brat ... I could get on. You get the picture. As a result the plot felt a little flat for me and I wasn't particularly engaged by what befell any of the characters. I don't tend to find tales of the super-rich very engaging anyway and this whole psychological thriller thing has been done in a more inventive way in books such as Gone Girl and the Girl on the Train. This attempt felt derivative. I think if you read a certain number of thrillers then you really start to notice the patterns between them and it's a trifle tedious. I will keep this review private (e.g. just on Netgalley) since it was not more positive.
I enjoyed this blistering Arizona based novel about a young woman called Finn who goes to work as a nanny for a wealthy family. Things gradually unravel and the plot slowly builds towards its conclusion. A good summer read.
A mixed bag - the premise is strong, execution less so. Though some of the backstory was there, characters just fell flat and the slow burn didn't personally pay off.
Interesting book, Psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Rich characters, gripping story and a must read for fans of this genre!
This was a mixed bag for me. I really wanted to like it and had high hopes for it based on the blurb. The plot moved in fits and starts and I found myself caring less about Finn (Natalie) and Bryant the further the book progressed. She makes some very questionable choices and wallows in self pity a lot. The sub plot of Finn's past added a bit more meat to the character but was too late in the book for me to care too much about it. On the upside I didn't see the majority of the plot coming towards the end. The character I enjoyed the most was the child as that felt the most true to life. One thing's for certain - I'm pleased I'm nowhere near the world of American politics as it doesn't feel like a good place to be at all!
A thrilling and heartfelt story; draws you in very quickly and doesn't let go. Excellent character development. Highly recommended!
Unfortunately this was very hard reading as there were so many mistakes trying to work out some of the words were very distracting in the first chapters especially.
The basic storyline was good it was just the characters that didn’t work they didn’t seem to grab you and make you want to know more. I had real high hopes for this book as it did seem to have promise with good ideas. But just very slow to actually get into.
Finn Hunt is the nanny to Amabel Martin whose grandfather is a senator in Arizona and he has hopes his son Philip will follow in his footsteps taking over his role when he retires.. Finn feels like she is part of the family attending functions and mixing with wealthy and glamorous people.
But Finn has her own secrets her name isn’t really Finn but Natalie she changed her name in order to give herself a fresh start. What is she running from? Or what is she hiding? She was delighted to be given the job of nanny to Amabel Philip and Marina’s 4 year old daughter. The opening chapter is Amabel telling Finn that someone is following her but is it Amabel the woman is following or is it Finn.
Not only does Finn have secrets, the Martins have secrets of their own that could bring down the whole family especially with elections coming up. The family are already stressed.
Everyone has secrets, have told lies, manipulated things and are selfish but is this what wealth and power does?
There are lots of plot twists but to mention them would spoil the story for others. Some of them you won’t see coming. There just didn’t seem to be enough to make you want to keep turning the pages fast.
The end of the book seemed a little rushed, overall the writing is good. Sometimes a little bit too much description of things. The dialogue was good. For a debut novel I think Kelsey Rae Dimberg is someone to look out for.

On the whole I enjoyed this book
There are lots of typos and they did distract me a little, however, I am hoping that the publishers sort this before final publication
It is slow going at time but it is well written
There are some holes with plot but I am thinking these will also be rectified before full publication date
I am giving it s 3 star rating as I did enjoy it but I do think there is still more work to do on it before its published
Feeling very conflicted with this book. The storyline was plausible (ish) but somehow the characters felt flt to me and I'm unsure if it was meant as a thriller - albeit a very slow-burn - or if it was an indictment on politics and politicians in general. There were several moments when I seriously debated whether to throw in the towel and just leave it unfinished. However, I persevered and made it sluggishly to the final chapters. I'm sorry to say that , in this instance, I'm reluctantly only giving it a 1 star rating...ok - I'll be generous and upgrade it to a 2 - only because the writing was fairly decent, despite the plot and the ending!
