A good quick read of enemies to lovers book. Loved the characters and look forward to reading more from this author. Cole and Addison make a really cute couple.
Who doesn't love a dog? Even better, who doesn't love a dog with a cute guy attached to the end of the lead!?! This cover was all I needed, until I read and loved the story! It was a super easy read and I really enjoyed it.
This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.
I wanted to like this, but when a book’s grammatical issues are so bad in the first chapter, it is really a sign that I’m only going to end up abandoning it.
And so here we are...with me having abandoned the book because there were just too many run on sentences and other issues. I do know that this book was a rewrite of Alexander’s novella FETCH with 10,000 additional words. Having not read FETCH, I cannot tell if that means the parts that were clear of such issues were the ones added in at a later time. Perhaps there’s improvement shown in this book. Seems better than assuming all the run ones are there because the author didn’t know how else to increase the word count.
Cole and Addison both have there fair share of bad relationships and heart break Cole is a dog walker like how much cuter can you get and the romance between them is cute and the story is everything I wanted and needed at the moment
The story is okay but the book is in desperate need of a good copy editor.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I want to thank NetGalley and AJ Alexander for the Arc of stay. I was the cover of the hot guy and the dog and was like yep I can tell I am going to want to read this. What could be better then a hot guy and a dog? Cole is a dog walker who falls for Addison when he comes to walk her cousins dog. I really enjoyed Cole and Addison. Addison always has her guard up not knowing if someone likes her for her or her money. She wants to let her guard down for Cole but he has some secrets of his own. I really enjoyed this read. It was romantic, sexy and had some mystery to it.
Stay by A.J. Alexander is the first book in her Odd Jobs series and the first book that I've read by this author. Cole owns a successful dog walking business. His former girlfriend didn't like his career choice and put him down.. She wants a doctor, so instead of her support, she betrays him and insults his character at every opportunity.
Heather is Cole's friend since college. When her cousin comes to visit, she warns Addison and Cole that they don't have a chance. It is like waving a bone in front of a dog. Cole makes a move as soon as he sees Addy, a potential new conquest. He kisses her at first sight. Cole, you are lucky you didn't get a knee to the groin.
Stay has sweet moments. The plot is acceptable, and the story is an easy read. I enjoyed the friendships. Everyone wants friends like Wyatt and Heather. They are a shoulder to cry on and a buddy with whom to share a beer and bare your soul. However, Stay is one of those books that I put in the "I'm too old" category.
By the time we hit fifty, certain behavior is annoying. I'm sure some young men and women antagonize one another and their relationship flourishes. That was never me. Always judging people based on a past relationship is unfair. The person judging is cheating their self of potential love. The person judged is assigned traits that belong to someone else. It isn't fair, and it isn't mature behavior. The new person will never measure up, or they won't stay around long. I understand past relationships will make one cautious, but unkind is unforgivable.
I like it when female characters are distinct from the male character in the story. I don't want mirror images; only one is male and the other female. Cole, the male jerk. Addy is the female jerk and neither shares about their exes. Instead they jump to conclusions.
I understand, Stay is a first book republished with some updates. To me, it still feels like a first book. The epilogue is sweet, I can see Ms. Alexander's writing potential. I will check out her next book to learn the other characters' stories
An entertaining, swoon-worthy romance that is a joy to read....with sizzling chemistry, compelling characters, punches of humour and a satisfying happily-ever-after!! Can’t wait to read the next book and any more after that. Happy reading!!
The story of Cole and Addison.. Not sure I really liked either of them so difficult to get in to the story.
I really wish that I could tell you that there was something about this book that made me like it. I think that the nicest thing that I can say about this, is that I like the cover.
I didn't like either of the main characters, or how they interacted with each other. Frankly, I could neither see nor relate to their apparent attraction to each other. When I added that to what was (for me) a poorly executed storyline and a book that needed another edit, I'm afraid to say that it just wasn't for me.
This was one of those occasions where I wish I'd taken heed of the other critical reviews.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I had such hope for this book, but was let down by this dog walker.
He's too shallow, too much of a player and I couldn't see him with her.
The dialogue in this story is good, the characters had potential, but the story needs more substance and variety. I like the backbone Addy has with her ex. I like how she stands up to her Dad and ex at the end. Heather and Addy are a good combination. Cole has the potential to be a great leading man but misses the mark for me.
However, for me, the story is repetitive and predictable. The characters are juvenile and the epilogue was truly bizarre.
Got to 24% and decided I just didn't like Cole or Addy!
Cole kissing her straight off on the doorstep nearly made me put this down but I did try for longer but still didn't work. I understood they both had issues, Cole a girlfriend who thought he wasn't good enough because of his job and Addy a controlling father and shitty boyfriend courtesy of her dad but none of that redeems them enough for me.
Not for me, the romance was just odd, awkward and even the characters didn’t seem convinced and were confused. Not for me if there isn’t chemistry or believability
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Honestly I had a ton of issues with this book. From the very beginning it was hard to get into. The story line itself was great just the characters drove me crazy. Too whinny. Too much fighting. Not really muy cup of tea but loved the ending and the resolutions to Addy’s issues.
As a few other reviews stated, I couldn't relate to the characters at all. I found the main character a tad too cocky for my liking. The book was "cute" in a few spots, but overall it was just a miss for me. I hate giving bad reviews, so i feel horrible ;/
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
I could not finish this book. Truth, I couldn't even get to 30% of this book before I just had to stop. FULL STOP.
I hate giving bad reviews, I understand the hard work authors go through to put themselves out there, but ... I have to give this a bad review.
I mean from the very start they are kissing within MINUTES (less than 5) of meeting. Then a huge blow up about said kissing. Then a bigger, lets call it a misunderstanding, that never gets resolved within the amount I read.
Add in that they BOTH hate each other for no real reason. Yet they both can't stop thinking about the other. Add in the ex and the major lack of backbone for the female and well. I just couldn't hand it.
It was beyond headache inducing. There were ZERO redeeming qualities of either, ZERO chemistry and a whole hell of a lot of whining.
A fast paced read that was more cute than anything. There was a lot of humor. The dynamic between characters was okay but not exactly what I expected. I found myself more interested in the other characters and what their books will hold than on Addison and Cole. Overall it's a good read but I think the next will be more enjoyable.
This was a miss for me. I couldn’t connect with The H and thought he was too cocky, to blunt and I just didn’t like him from the start. Y’all Ben throughout the book I couldn’t connect with either characters. The writing was good but I couldn’t get past the H. I’m giving this an extra star because that cover is awesome.
