3.5 stars⭐️

This book was ok. It was an interesting read! I enjoyed the writing style and the character development. I enjoyed how there were 2 story lines throughout that started to merge together towards the last quarter of the book.

I didn’t get surprised at any point and there was no twist! I felt the ending and where the story was going was a little predictable.

It was however, still an enjoyable read hence the 3.5 rating!

He Will Find You is the third in this series featuring DI Harry Blaker and DS Maddie Ives. I read the first one last year, but missed the second one.

A young boy covered in blood, terrified, and unwilling or unable to speak; a man completing tasks for some kind of online group; a young man taken in by the same promises, but who wants out, even when he is in too deep.

Gruesome and full of twists. Not exactly my favorite kind of book, but I didn't want to abandon it either.

This is the third book in the series featuring DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker based in Canterbury. DS Maddie Ives had been working undercover in Manchester for years until disobeying orders meant that she had to move right across the country to a Major Crimes posting in Langhorne in the south east. Then a nasty shoot out injured her boss DI Harry Blaker and put him out of action for months and her back to CID, and once reunited they worked another particularly nasty case together. Back for good in Major Crimes and with things on a more even keel Maddie is the most senior officer on call when a young boy is found wandering in the city centre scared and in a daze. He is barefoot and covered in blood, and for some awful reason cannot or will not speak to anyone. Maddie makes a form of contact with him but there is a lot of work to be done to establish who he is and where the blood came from. Then the remains of a man are found dumped on a road. It looks like he has been dragged by a vehicle to an agonising death but why go to such lengths when there are much easier ways to finish someone off? As their investigations proceed it starts to look like some sort of weird cult is involved, promising believers a better life and demanding that followers carry out ever nasty "tasks" or risk becoming someone else's task. It is starting to look like they have another lamb coming to the slaughter and the next task may even be very close to home. Meanwhile the case of the mute boy is handed over to a very promising young CID officer since no one can be sure if the events surrounding him are even connected to another crime.
What at first appear to be lots of separate strands all start to come together as the pace speeds up to eventually reveal a dramatic ending. There is lots going on in this book but it is very well written and is never confusing for the reader. The characters are well described, and you feel that you get to know them very quickly. The plot is clever and solid, and there are clues left for the reader along the way so that everything makes sense in the end. Altogether an excellent read from a very knowledgeable author which I have no hesitation in recommending. I would also recommend reading the books in order if possible, not only for character history but to not miss out on two more great stories!

Charlie Gallagher is a master of police dramas and his books are among the best police procedurals you will find. This is book 3 in the Maddie Ives series and it just keeps improving. The book starts with a young boy, found on the streets and covered in blood. I love the development between DS Ives and DI Blaker, a real gruff character whose wife died in a car crash. I don't want to say too much about this for fear of spoilers and I would highly recommend starting with book one in this series. Well written with great insight, plenty suspense and a cracking plot. What's not to enjoy? My thanks to Net Galley and Joffe Books for my ARC. A great 5* read.

A young boy walks out into the traffic. He is dazed, barefooted, and covered in blood. Detective Maddie Ives is called and when on scene, the young boy either cannot or will not speak.

A man is found brutally murdered, dragged to his death behind a truck.

There is a cult of sorts behind this murder. There are 'tasks' to be done in order to reach a new plateau, a richness of life, permission to do evil. The task is to take someone's life ... if it isn't done, the newest member will become the task. There is no out available....

How are these cases connected? Maddie isn't too sure herself.. she needs to find the person or people who are pulling the strings.

But the more she investigates, the closer she becomes a new 'task'.

This is an extremely well written crime fiction. The author is himself a serving UK detective investigating serious offenses. Due to his experience, the story is credible with characters that are finely drawn and memorable

Although second in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend starting with Book 1 ...

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased ad entirely my own.

This is the third in the DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker series and having read the previous two I enjoyed reading about these two characters again, however, it can easily be read as a stand alone. Harry is irascible, gruff but honourable and likeable. He and his daughters are still grieving following the death of Harry’s wife several years previously in a car accident. They have a hard time with coming to terms with the early release of the perpetrator that caused her death and this is one storyline followed in this book. Maddie is very likeable, clever and hard working. I like the way that Harry and Maddie interact - Harry puts up a front and Maddie is one of the few people that he allows to see his more vulnerable side. Two other characters I like in this series are Vince and Rhiannon - Vince is especially likeable.

The book starts well with the shocking appearance in Canterbury of a young barefoot boy who is almost feral, he’s covered in dried blood and refuses to speak. Maddie devises a clever method of communicating with him. Eventually the team learn that his name is Alex Thompson. This is the start of a dark and shocking investigation in which several people are killed in a vicious and vile way apparently by an occult group The Left Hand Path.

The book is well written - there is clarity and authority in the police procedure as you would expect as Charlie Gallagher is a serving police officer. Towards the end the author creates a real sense of urgency into the writing as the case reaches a critical point. However, I think at times there is too much description especially of this lovely Kent area and over explanation and I wasn’t too keen on some of the dialogue although it didn’t spoil my enjoyment. Possibly the storyline was a bit far fetched but overall its a good read. I really like the emotional end of the book between Alex and Maddie and I also like Harry’s honesty.

A gripping story with many arcs. I think that the Maddie Ives series are Charlie Gallagher's best series - and this book is his best yet. The story tells us more about Harry Blaker's past and makes Maddie realise just how much she's let her awareness of her surroundings drop.

Loved it.

I received a free advance review copy. This review is voluntary, honest and my own.

I can not read enough of Charlie Gallagher book. I was once again totally addicted from the first chapter. His books are always well written with more twist and turns. It’s a Rollercoaster of a ride, one that you are sat on the edge of your seat to see what’s coming next. Harry his quieter than usual. It’s not surprising under the circumstances. How he keeps himself restrained I don’t know. It’s a very powerful novel with a lot of truths written. Maddie, realises that in some way she’s become a little sloppy. She’s and taken a few things for granted. She thinks she has put her own colleague in danger, still the little boy covered in blood has not spoken. You can’t help but feel you are actually in the middle of this case, he brings the characters so alive. This is one awesome book. I didn’t think Charles Gallagher could possibly get any better. How and I genuinely do not know each book seems better than the last. I am looking forward to another instalment with Maddie, Harry, & Vince. This is most definitely a highly recommended read

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of He Will FindYou, the third novel to feature Canterbury based DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker.

A barefoot, blood soaked young boy is found wandering the streets of Canterbury so DS Maddie Ives is called to investigate. The boy isn’t talking so the police are on their own. Then a body is found on a lonely, country road. Are the cases connected?

I thoroughly enjoyed He Will Find You which is an event filled read from start to finish. Unlike some of Mr Gallagher’s other novels it is quite low key in terms of adrenaline until a pulse pounding finale. This does not make it uneventful as there are plenty of developments as the novel progresses and they all come together gradually, rather like a patchwork quilt. This is due to the fact that the novel is told from a variety of perspectives giving the reader a wider view of events than the police have. Despite this Mr Gallagher manages to keep some secrets, like the perpetrator’s identity and the boy’s role. This works relatively well but the gullibility of one of the characters is annoying. You do wonder about some people’s stupidity but, as a serving officer, the author probably sees it every day. On the other hand, I thought the perpetrator’s motive and actions suit their personality (vague, I know, but I don’t want to spoil the read).

The novel is well constructed with a good mix of suspense, procedure, developments and strife between characters. It held my attention throughout. I like the growing relationship between Maddie and Harry. Neither are open books but as the series progresses the reader gets to know them a little better. Maddie is the former undercover officer who is gradually losing her tradecraft but not her instincts as she settles in to Canterbury’s Major Incident Team. She has a tendency to act unilaterally and trust her hunches so it’s Harry’s job to rein her in. He is the experienced voice of logic, harsh but fair but with personal problems threatening to overwhelm him he more harsh than fair in this novel. It’s a good dynamic and Mr Gallagher does a good job of conveying their emotions.

He Will Find You is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Darker and more serious than Gallagher' s other books. Whilst it is a decent read a little lightness or humour would make the book feel less like wading through treacle.

This book begins with a terrified young boy cowering in a shopping centre, covered in blood and seemingly struck dumb with fear. Then the discovery of a body on a back road with almost unimaginable injuries adds to the workload of all concerned as well as to the desire of Detectives Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker to solve these cases quickly both knowing somehow that others are in danger if they don't. From then on there is no let up of the tension and there is a need to keep reading until the final scene is completed.

Charlie Gallagher is a serving police officer and this definitely shows in his description of the procedural aspects which seem completely realistic. Add to this the originality of the crimes, that the reader is party to, and this becomes first class storytelling. There is no holding back on the racking up of pressure in both the work and private lives of the main characters and I found myself heavily invested in all they did throughout.

This is the third Maddie Ives book and I sincerely hope it won't be the last. The secondary characters were far more involved this time as was Harry's private life; both things giving an extra perspective to this excellent series and maybe more scope for involvement in future investigations.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone who has enjoyed the previous books or enjoys crime writing of the highest quality.

Early one Sunday morning, a ten year old boy walks out in front of traffic. He is dazed, confused and has bare feet. He's covered in blood that's not his own. When Maddie Ives arrives to investigate, the boy can't or won't talk. The boy is scared stiff. Then a man is found brutally murdered. Detectives Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker need to find out the answers, quickly.

I love this series. They are well written with gripping storylines. Ives and Blaker have their work cut out trying to solve this case. There isn't a thing that I don't like about this series. In fact, it's one of the best ones around at the moment. The story is brutal and horrific but it's also a page turner that you won't want to put down. It can be read as a standalone but it's always best to read a series from the beginning. You won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Charlie Gallagher for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

On a rainy Sunday morning a 10 year old boy jumps out in front of traffic. He is confused and without footwear covered in blood.
Detective Maddie Ives is in charge and finds the boy who wont or cant speak. He appears shocked.
A man is found brutally murdered. Maddie and Detective Harry Blaker are on the case to uncover what is going on.
I read book 2 in the series and loved it
This one is equally gripping. I love the writing style and found it easy to get into the story. The tale is very gripping and had me at the edge of my seat. The characters are strong and some of them extremely nasty. I did not know how this would be solved. The dark web thread was very interesting. Would highly recommend.

I’d like to thank Joffe Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘He Will Find You’ by Charlie Gallagher in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

A boy thought to be ten or eleven years old, covered in blood and so scared he’s refusing to talk, is found in the centre of Canterbury early one Sunday morning and DS Maddie Ives is called out to take control of the situation. When the body of a man is found brutally murdered after being dragged along a road Maddie and DI Harry Blaker investigate, taking Harry’s mind off his own personal problems. They find themselves in a race against time to discover the identity of the killer before he can destroy anybody else.

‘He Will Find You’ is the third in the DS Maddie Ives series where Maddie and Blaker find themselves caught up in explosive situations. It has an action-packed plot, is fast-paced with lots of drama and tension, nail-biting twists and turns and a shocking conclusion. This is a police thriller that I can thoroughly recommend.

DS Maddie Ives returns in He Will Find You by Charlie Gallagher and it is another page turning and very exciting police procedural with numerous twists and turns that keeps you hooked throughout.

A young boy is discovered barefoot and covered in blood is the start of the book and the author uses his knowledge of the police force to good use to write another great story in this series

Thoroughly recommended
