This was an overload of facts, yet still easy to read and comprehend. A wealth of information, which working in the veterinary field I found extremely valuable. Easy to go back and reference specific topics, and with real life accounts to give it an air of real life, bringing the well deserved fear and respect closer to home,

This was a very interesting book on an important subject. It is shameful that it is left to a psychiatrist to tease out the possible long-term health implications of Lyme disease, but there you go. I was particularly interested in the chapter on Spain since I live here. Unfortunately the news wasn't good, it appears that in Spain they are committing the same intellectual mistake as in other parts of the world in denying and limiting any consideration of the extension and long-term implications of this condition. I can only hope that the essays included in this book will encourage future physicians and epidemiologists to take a greater interest in the possible scope of tickborne disease.
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this tract.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book.
This book is a very informative read and would be a great addition to a family medical resource. It is amazing to me how much tickborne illnesses are overlooked and not part of a screening process. I do not believe the medical community takes the symptoms seriously and it is reinforced by the research done in this book.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

From the increasing awareness of Lyme Disease in the 1980s until now, tick borne illnesses, especially LymeDisease, have become endemic in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Europe, and Mexico. This book thoroughly covers the difficulties diagnosing and treating Lyme Disease. It also discusses the difficulties patients run into with having health insurance coverage for adequate diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Interestingly enough, when infected with one tick borne disease, a person is commonly co-infected with potentially several other tick borne diseases.
This also complicates diagnosis as well as treatment of the patient.

Especially interesting were the actual case studies of patients of various ages and their experiences with this disease and its treatment.

This book might be considered ‘too scientific’ for light reading. However, for people suffering from a variety of unusual symptoms, having a difficult time being diagnosed, or feeling as though they have relapsed into chronic Lyme Disease, this might provide some help in navigating a seemingly insurmountable problem.

A very interesting and informative read. This is something that I think often gets overlooked in the medical field.

A fascinating look into the hidden inner world of lyme disease and other infectious tick-borne illnesses, a chronically undertreated medical epidemic. This book outlines the various (and often contradictory) symptoms and treatment options, as well as highlighting various cases of individual sufferers. Informative and in-depth, this book is a credit to both the medical community and the common individual interested in learning more about the syndrome!

A special thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

5 stars

I suffer from chronic illness but Ido not suffer from lyme disease but a few of my friends do and so I wanted to learn more about the illness.
This book is very detailed. It goes into every aspect of Lyme disease and each chapter is almost like a small scientific paper in its own right.
It was fine to follow although if you are new to lyme terminology as I was you may need to look a few things up.
I was amazed to see how much this illness can affect. Knowing lyme can trigger interstitial cystitis has shocked me and I struggle with IC and never knew the 2 could be linked.
The scale of this problem that is being mostly ignored by many doctors is scary. I hope lots of people read this book and realise the true scale and depth of this problem.

I received this gifted book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

First and foremost I want to thank #Netgalley ,the publisher; Hammersmith Health Books and of course the authors and contributors for writing, publishing and sending me an ARC of book.
Thank you.

This book, hit me hard.
As a chronic lymie, unfortunately I know way to much about the, as we call it in Dutch "medische malle molen" ( medical crazy windmill <- yes, Dutch).
I also know what it feels like to constantly doubt yourself, because at some point you just don't know how you or your body actually feels. You start to believe the doctors that keep telling you it is all just inside your own head since the blood-test just keep turning up negative.

I think it the combination of recognition, recognisable situations and information is very well balanced in this book.
As a patient I felt truly seen and my struggles with the medical world were acknowledged which might be the greatest gift a doctor has given me.
But this book is also great for any doctor, since it has very clear sources stated.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to try and find some treatment and justice for me, us, as people who have fought tremendous battles to get diagnosed (and treatment) and lost.
Thank you for recognising all the pain both physically and mentally we have to deal with on a daily basis. Thank you.

The author's painstaking research and attention to detail is obvious in the writing of this book. There were many facts that I only discovered after reading this!

Lyme disease is an illness caused by various species of bacteria in the genus Borrelia that live in the guts of ticks. Once transmitted to humans, it can attack the immune system and lead to serious health complications such as arthritis, meningitis, neurological problems, even heart failure. While Lyme disease can sometimes be treated with antibiotics if detected early, its very hard to detect when the bite happened a long time ago, unnoticed..
With the variety of health complications it is so hard to detect that many Doctors fail.

My Opinion:
Hu, this book is frightening, a thriller with a tick as main character. The book is divided into five parts
First some background about ticks,
second people speak about their TBD,
third some explanations
fourth how ticks spread the disease all over the wold and
last some healing.
This book is well to read and very informative. It was horrifying to read about the disease and how much people suffer unknown. I live in Germany, and we have many high risk areas of Lyme disease. And do we have doctors who know? I don`t think so. Most of the people are seeing very many specialists and the end of the track is : it´s your psyche.
And the book says it`s the same all over the world. Alarming.
Maybe it will be possible in the future to teach every medicine -- student about Lyme disease to detect as many suffering people as possible.

The book is to much in detail to the subject, some fewer pages would have done better. But it`s very informative to everyone. Maybe some maps would have been nice to see where on earth are high risk zones, to listen to oneself if anyone who suffers on those symptoms had been in a high risk zone.

Conclusion: Very informative, well written good explained overview of Lyme disease and Tick - bone-disease
