I received an ARC and uncorrected copy of this book.
This book was the best thriller/mystery I read this year. The characters were exceptional and the storyline was amazing. You will never see this one coming. I highly recommend this book.

If you're into the current trend of female protagonist led psychological thrillers, then this is one you should pick up. We meet Alice just as she begins to notice that strange things have been happening to her on Wednesdays. We're also introduced to our psycho who definitely didn't get enough hugs as a kid. As with a lot of thrillers, the motivation of our psycho seems questionable, but all in all it's a fast and fun read.

I started this book last night, read late into the night, and finished it this morning - you think I liked it? This is my fourth Driscoll thriller and she is an exceptional writer, far more authentic then many in the genre, with great plots, characters and pacing. An unknown stalker - every woman’s fear. Vulnerable Alice starts receives letters, incidents and calls every Wednesday.. A journalist, Alice has a loving boyfriend Tom,, good friends and family and suddenly her world is turned upside down as the threats escalate. While we may discover the reason for the stalker, the actual person is not exposed until the very few last pages - and was a total gut wrenching shocker.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review of I WILL MAKE YOU PAY by Teresa Driscoll.

This book is a real page turner, and just when you think you’ve figured out who the stalker is, it changes again and again.

Trigger: You do learn about the suspect’s abusive past, although it does not go into great detail, it can be a tough read.

Every Wednesday there is a threatening phone call or message. Is it her ex fiancé who has quite a background or someone she works with? We also get the story of the tormentor when he was young.
This story kept me at the edge of my seat!

A clever story, and a real page-turner. Unfortunately I didn't really like the main characters, and found them unbelievable, so I didn't enjoy this book as much as I expected.

Review of Advance Reader’s Copy --- Uncorrected Proof

Every Wednesday, a mysterious caller victimizes journalist Alice Henderson with cruel threats. She believes it to be a hoax against the newspaper until the Wednesday threats intensify and it becomes clear that it is they are really all about Alice. But Alice’s articles on the need for replacing a run-down, damp housing complex have earned her popular support, so the reason for the threats is a mystery. As the Wednesday warnings escalate, the stalker sets his sights on Alice’s family. Can Alice uncover the reason for the threats before she comes face to face with an unthinkable reality?

Filled with unexpected reveals and some surprising twists, “I Will Make You Pay is, by turns, disturbing, suspenseful, and heart-wrenching. Told from multiple points of view, [but mostly from Alice], the story spins out over past and present, weaving a tapestry that ultimately connects all the threads from each of the characters in an unexpected denouement that changes everything readers think they know.

Pulled into the story from the first page, readers will find this quick read tale builds suspense as the pages turn.
The timeline shifts from past to present, from Alice to a young [unidentified] boy and his grandmother, Martha. Alice’s backstory is more complete; readers may wish the story of Martha and her grandson had a bit more elaboration. One of the brightest spots in the telling of the tale is Alice’s love for her mother. The scenes between Alice, Leanne, and their mother are the highlights of the narrative.

Recommended.

I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll had me hooked from the creepy beginning and kept my attention until the very end.

Journalist Alice Henderson's seemingly quiet life gets creepy when terrible things start happening to her every Wednesday. Someone is out to get her, but why? And, do secrets from her hidden past play a role?

Trigger warning: as we learn about this mystery stalker's past, we learn about abuse he endured. While not directly described, the implication is strong and is difficult to read.

I loved two supporting characters; private investigator Matthew Hill and DI Melanie Sanders are a smart and refreshing team, working to find this stalker. They pair great together and add a nice touch of kindness throughout the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Ms. Driscoll for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

For the most part, the book was quite engrossing and kept me guessing as to the perpetrator's identity. I didn't much care for the first person narrative nor the present tense, i.e., "I look around the room..."; I draw the curtains, even though..."; I make another coffee..."; Finally I am sitting at the kitchen table..." Secondly, is it just me that's bothered by incomplete sentences, "The police can't give you a bodyguard. Or a new car. Or a new address."; "From years back. Also Jack's face."? Lastly, the word "Christ" is Greek for the Hebrew word "Messiah" meaning "anointed." Even though the author didn't use "Jesus Christ" in its entirety as a cuss word, I find it offensive that she would have included it. Hmmm, I guess it just doesn't have the same impact, "Not after two phone calls like that. A voice changer, for Buddha's sake."

I really enjoyed this book. This was one that I thought I had figured out, and I was SO WRONG! I love books like that! Alice begins getting messages from what appears to be a stalker. The messages become more and more frightening! How will Alice, her boyfriend, and the private investigator keep her safe and figure out who is threatening her?!? Great book!

This is a very good psychological thriller. I felt empathy with Alice, the main character, though she was annoying at times when she insisted on going against security advice. The story is told in separate strands: Alice and 'him'; and 'before' and 'after'; though these are clearly marked and this works well. The twist at the end did take me by surprise, I thought I knew who the stalker was but of course I was wrong. I will certainly look out for Teresa Driscoll's next book.

The author did her job. I kept turning the pages. I wasn't too shocked by the story or ending, but I did like it.

I Will Make You Pay kept my interest as I needed to have the stalker revealed. I would have given this book 4 stars but in the end settled on 3.5 stars. A couple of the sub plots were superfluous. In my opinion, just words taking up space, having no relevance to the story line. I found the characters mostly to be uninteresting. But......I liked the way the book is written, with chapters dedicated to different characters. I also thought the ending was a surprise. I would recommend this book. Thank you Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Publisher’s description: Every Wednesday, like clockwork, the terror returns.

It seems like an ordinary Wednesday, until the phone rings. A mysterious caller with a chilling threat. Journalist Alice Henderson hangs up, ready to dismiss it as a hoax against the newspaper. But the next Wednesday, the stalker makes another move—and it becomes clear that this is all about Alice.

I requested this title because I haven't read any of her books yet and I thought this sounded good. I didn't figure it out until the end and then it made sense, but the poor guy (just a little)! I'm now a new fan of Teresa Driscoll and will go read her other books.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for my ARC copy in return for an honest review. I couldn't put this one down! This title is scheduled for release on October 10, 2010.

I was given an early copy of I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll in exchange for an honest review!

I really am a fan of this author. That being said, this one just fell a tiny bit flat for me. To be fair, I’m currently recovering from major surgery and reading has been difficult. Perhaps that changed things for me. I did enjoy it- the premise was good (and creepy 🖤)- the ending just wasn’t as good as I hoped. 🤷‍♀️

I still would recommend this read to all thriller fans as well as Driscoll fans. I may revisit this after feeling better! I’m still a fan!

Thanks for the opportunity to read and review this as always I am forever a grateful reader!

There are some books in this genre that piddle around until the end, which then amps up into a satisfying and shocking conclusion. However this manages to do the inverse.

The first 90% of the book is amazing. There are three narratives told - a woman being stalked, the private detective investigating the stalking, and the backstory of the stalker. As is common in this scenario, all three storylines converge as the story unfolds. The plotting, dialogue, and characters are well written.

However, the ending feels abrupt and leaves two large plot threads dangling. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, but they were two of the more interesting angles. It frustrated me enough to drop my entire rating a star. I would have preferred full resolution, or for the threads to not have been introduced at all.

I do still recommend this book, but with the caveat that you don't get too invested in two of the sub plots. I'll put small details under my disclosure to spare spoilers.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC.

Spoilers

Don't waste too much time worrying about what happened on Wednesdays in the past or why the "alarm charity" is significant. You'll just be disappointed (unless I missed something, which is possible since this was an uncorrected proof).

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I've been reading a lot of psychological suspense books lately. I mean a lot. This one probably freaked me out a little bit especially by how the book started out. The threats come often and they are freaky!

Alice is a journalist who has begun receiving crazy threats that are escalating as the novel goes on and it gets intense.

Great read as always by Driscoll!
