Hmmm. I can’t say that this a bad book because it wasn’t. It had potential but it just fell flat for me and was just a blah story. Character development really wasn’t there and there was just a monologue tone throughout. No emotion. I had more than the characters! The ending was good but predictable. I don’t think I would recommend. Thank you netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.

I Will Make You Pay is a thriller about a woman whose life’s turned upside down after receiving a threatening phone call. The book reads smoothly! The characters were really thought out and complex as well. I very much enjoyed the writing! Finished this within two days!

Alice, a journalist, receives a threatening call at work that is seemingly out of the blue. She initially dismisses the call as a prank, just part and parcel of the job., until similar incidents follow, and always on a Wednesday. Fearing for her safety, boyfriend Tom hires a private investigator to keep an eye on Alice, but as the incidents continue to escalate with each passing week, it becomes very clear that the stalker will not stop until his personal vendetta against Alice has been settled once and for all.

I Will Make You Pat by Teresa Driscoll. This was a gripping, well paced book which developed the related storylines very well. I really didn’t expect the twist as there were so many possibilities. Teresa developed the characters really well so that I felt I got to know them all and their individual life challenges. This was a really great story, even more chilling when you read Teresa’s “Author’s Note” at the end. What a pity social services get such a bad rep in practically every novel you read. A good social worker could have transformed little Tom and his gran’s lives. Great novel which tackles big issues like stalking, abuse, poverty and mental health very well. I definitely recommend.

4.25 STARS

Boasting an intriguing premise with multi-dimensional characters and plenty of suspense, “I Will Make You Pay” is a psychological thriller about a journalist—Alice Henderson--who suddenly finds herself the victim of a terrorizing stalker. Alternating between past and present, the story unfolds slowly, peeling away the layers to the back story that is somehow tied to the threats that Alice receives every Wednesday, without fail. Tender moments between Alice and her ailing mother are interspersed throughout the book, helping to balance the scales of between good and evil. And despite having figured out the puzzle before the final piece had fallen into place, “I Will Make You Pay” had me enthralled from start to finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense of this story. It kept me intrigued and I couldn’t put it down.

Yes, I guessed who it was, but wasn’t 100% sure and didn’t know why, though I suspected the reason.

This story is told in a way so you’re living it with Alice. There are secrets all around and nothing is as it seems.

I definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes a great Whodunnit.

Another great read by Teresa Driscoll!

"I Will Make You Pay" alternates between past and present. The past introduces a 10 year old boy and his gran, which chapters had me completely engrossed. In the present, we are introduced to Alice Henderson who receives a very eery and threatening phone call at her place of business. Feeling unsettled, she tries to brush it off as a prank, she is a journalist after all. However, another call comes 1 week to the day of the first, a Wednesday. As the weeks go by the incidents become more dangerous. The little boy hates Wednesdays, the two are tied together but you won't know how until the very end.

Another great read. I look forward to this author's next book. A big thank you to Amazon Publishing UK and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

It looks like Alice should not like Wednesdays. She is a newspaper journalist. Anonymous phone calls, dead flowers and eventually physical altercations make her more and more paranoid. And it is always on a Wednesday...

Alice's boyfriend, Tom, is quite understanding - and that is only to a point...

Also introduced is a boy (6-7 years old) who is left alone every Wednesday night as his Grandma has to work the night shift.

Add in an ex-cop (PI Matthew Hill) and DI Melanie who is his friend and confidante - yet she is ready for maternity leave. We also cannot forget Alice's rich sister and Alice's co-worker, Jack. Mystery and suspense surrounds them all.

I couldn't tear myself away! This is truly a wonderful suspense thriller! I HIGHLY recommend!!!

Many Thanks to Amazon, UK and NetGalley for a great story!

“I will Make You Pay” is a first rate suspense novel. Our leading lady is victimized unexpectedly while living a most hum-drum life as a newspaper reporter. As the plot develops or rather, “thickens,” we find that she has a bit of a back story, but nothing that would provoke the trauma she’s receiving. In fact all the red herrings are well done in that the author makes the reader think something’s there, but then it turns out to be hum drum.

The suspense that she created came, in large part, from the hum-drumness of the various reveals. The way she accomplished that was pure genius. There was nothing in this book that hit you in the face or that was in any way obvious. And then when the final reveal came, it was a true shocker. It was not, “how could I have missed this?” but rather, “OMG!”

First rate – all the way. I will most assuredly look for additional books by Teresa Driscoll.

This was an ARC I received from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This thriller about a stalking victim and journalist named Alice opened with a bang. The author is creative and twisted enough to think of using cheese wire on one of her characters, which gives the reader a taste of the tension and depravity to come.

This book was a breath of fresh air for the thriller/suspense world. Despite its tension and deprave antagonist, there were tones of love and courage throughout the book that kept the plot realistic. After all, the positive relationships in one’s life can become stronger through stress and hard times. This is exactly what happens with Alice, who finds support from her sister, mother, and coworkers as she navigates the terrifying world of being watched.

Driscoll does a fantastic job of interweaving moving, meaningful moments into her web of anxiety. Any reader who has close relationships with their parents and spouses may find themselves periodically teary-eyed while reading.

This is a really good gripping read. I was totally caught up in Alices world. I guessed who the stalker was fairly quickly but that did not spoil my enjoyment of the book..

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

3.5 stars!

It seemed like an ordinary Wednesday until the phone rings.

Journalist Alice Henderson, hangs up, figuring that it is a hoax against her newspaper. But, the following Wednesday, there is another threat. One that makes it clear that Alice, and not the newspaper, is the target.

But, why? Does it have to do with her work at the paper? Or something from her past?

Her boyfriend Tom hires PI Matthew Hill, giving readers a chance to catch up with him, and DI Melanie Sanders, both recurring characters from previous novels. Don’t worry though- any of the books can be read as a stand alone, since the focus is always the Victim, and not the two characters tasked with helping them.

The good news for Alice…most stalkers are not killers.
The bad news…a lot of killers are stalkers first...

The warnings are escalating and yet, our relatable but flawed protagonist Alice, continues to make some questionable decisions, occasionally frustrating me, but...we wouldn’t have a story if she didn’t, right?

Although mostly narrated from Alice’s POV, we occasionally hear from “HIM”, the stalker. He has hated WEDNESDAYS for a long time-now it’s somebody else’s chance to dread WEDNESDAYS!

BUT WHO IS HE?

Author Teresa Driscoll, was a journalist for more than 25 years, and a BBC TV news presenter before turning her talents to writing fiction. This story was inspired by her own story when as young journalist starting out, she took a threatening call, three times, the same day each week. Fortunately for her, her calls ended with an apology on the third week, but her experience helped her to picture a scenario where that wouldn’t be the case, as the fear stayed with her much longer. This story helped her to examine that fear with a fictional story.

Something terrifying happens every Wednesday for Alice. I could feel her panic and terror, and sense of dread as each week Wednesday would approach! This book grabbed my interest right from the start. However, the ending felt rushed. I still don't understand why Brian had such an impact on the stalker. Did I miss something? It was still a satisfying read as I'm a huge fan of Driscoll!

This is another great thriller by Teresa Driscoll. It kept me guessing throughout who the stalker was going to be. The ending was great and well written. I’d recommend for anyone who likes this genre of book.

Another fantastic read from this author. I'm now at the point, after reading several books, that I'll happily read anything by this author. 4* from me, I guessed the stalker from early on but still very enjoyable.

The main theme of this novel is that courage and love is more powerful than fear.

Through the character of Alice were taken through a suspenseful journey of a young journalist who receives anonymous calls from a stranger who threatens her every Wednesday. It's important to note that the author of book had a similar experience in the past.

Could Teresa Driscoll possibly be revealing a chapter from her past to her readers?

While, that remains unknown , the unknown stranger threatens to harm, knows personal information about Alice such as where she works, where she lives, what her favorite drink is, and even personal information about her hospital bed mother.

The novel itself journeys through the past and the present. The past reveals a storyline of a little boy raised by his beloved grandmother. The little boy hates that his grandmother has to leave him on his own one night a week.

Could you possibly assume that Wednesday is the day the little boy hates?

Absolutely, as you dive deeper into the book you'll surely find out that Alice has secrets of her own.

What I enjoyed most was the focus on Alice love for her mother.

But, I definitely disliked that some of the British vocabulary (such as the use of the word fruitcake, nutter, daft, wank, saddo, and, moi) didn't translate well. Basically, I had to re-read some sections over just to understand the essence of the paragraph.

Also, you could easily get thrown off track with the chapters about the little boy past. Chapter to Chapter the backstory doesn't flow well with the present life chapters of Alice & Matthew.

With every Wednesday the warnings escalate, until it’s not only Alice but also her family in the stalker’s sights. As her tormentor closes in, can Alice uncover what she’s being punished for before the terrifying threats become an unthinkable reality?

I requested this title because I enjoyed the last book I read by Teresa Driscoll, and “I Will Make You Pay.” I thought I had figured it out. I was mad that I figured it out so soon. I should have figured it out sooner, but I hadn’t figured it out at all!

This is a page-turner that you will not want to put down. An incredibly fast read, this book will keep you guessing. Alice is a journalist in her late 20s who is being tormented by someone. She is incredibly trusting and naive but also very likable. Her boyfriend Tom will do everything in his power (and within his bank account) to protect her, and her colleague Jack seems to have a little bit of a crush on her and wants to look out for her. I was also surprised to see Matthew and Sally (the private investigator and his wife), who met in Driscoll’s “The Promise.” I liked them in that book, so I was glad to see the characters carry over and have their happily ever after.

I don’t want to give anything away to spoil this for anyone else. Pick this one up. You’ll be very glad that you did!

Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for an advance copy in exchange for and honest review. This title is scheduled for release on October 10, 2010.

Wow! Do you think you have a bad judge of character? Well Alice will give you a run for your money. When she receives a threatening phone call at her newspaper office where she is a reporter her life begins to unravel. She tried to hide her past and create a new life for herself, but has it come back to haunt her? Will she have to reveal the whole truth to not only the police, but her new boyfriend or is the threat completely unrelated? This story takes you in circles as it weaves two stories to reveal the whole truth. Who has Alice hurt so badly that now they are determined to make her pay? The ending is even better than you guessed!

I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll is a gripping thriller that will have you holding your breath up until the final page. Tension and suspense build steadily toward an explosive and shocking climax. Teresa Driscoll has just earned herself a place on my 'must read' list of authors.

This story is superbly executed, and unfurls at the perfect pace. Through shifting timelines, and providing the alternating perspectives of Alice and her unknown stalker, 'Him', I was kept guessing about the identity of the mysterious voice right up until the shocking reveal. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for this ARC.
