I had a difficult time getting into this book i also found it hard to relate with the characters,I won't slate the book as others will enjoy it.Thank you for the chance to read and review it.4*
Getting into this book was a challenge for me and only once the characters took shape and the plot developed that it became more enjoyable to read. There is a lot of tension in the story but the sometimes choppy writing and transitions interfered with the flow. It was only after I was more than half-way through that the book became difficult to put down. I wanted to feel sympathy for Nikita Parekh and her difficult relationships but just didn’t. There is also more violence than necessary to push the plot forward and I found that off putting. Overall it’s a good read, just not a great read.
Thank you to Net Galley and HQ Digital for the opportunity to read the advanced copy.
I have a hard time getting invested in this book. The characters were hard for me to relate to. The flow of the storyline was too slow for my taste. The book felt disjointed and thrown together.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

This book is one of my favourites from Liz, if not her best book! I devoured this over two nights, literally not being able to put it down. Can’t wait for the next one 👍🏻
A really good book with an unique story
I loved the use of the Yorkshire dialect in this book
An engrossing storyline
This was a well written police procedural with interesting characters. I didn't find it as gripping as some other books I have read in the same genre but it was still a solid read. I have read books from the author before which I have enjoyed greatly so I always look forward to what is coming next.
Last Request is the latest book from brilliant author Liz Mistry. Here we are introduced to a new character D.S. Nikita Parekh fighting crime in Bradford. Admittedly I didn’t warm to her character to start with, missing my all time favourite Gus McGuire from previous books whose character I love, but this is an excellent crime thriller and I started to forget Gus!
A body is found under a derelict car park with forensic links discovered between Nikita and the body. The shock of this knocks her for six but with her grit and determined character she goes all out to get to the bottom of this and other crimes she is dealing with.
Add to the mix her chaotic family life, wonderfully well rounded characters in the form of colleagues, villains and an evil drug dealer and you have a great story, entertaining and exciting and a particularly satisfying finale. An engrossing read.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
As an honest book reviewer I stopped reading this book after 12% I appreciated what the author was trying to do, the use of language made her characters speak with a Yorkshire ( Pakistani) accent but I felt the story was very weak and didn’t grip me at all.
This is a new series by a very talented author. I was used to DI McGuire, and all his quirks, but this new DS lady, DS Nikita Parekh sets the tone for a very exciting new series that I can see going places!!! It was a very good solid read, gripping from beginning to end, and I enjoyed each and every moment of it!
Recommended!!
Great book will be reading other books by this author.
Will also recommend this book to others.
Great read! 5*****
Last Request is a great and entertaining mystery. The characters are well developed and the storyline is interesting.
Last Request, is the first book in the series, written by Liz Mistry. The synopsis and cover do a great job of setting the tone for a mystery. The dark undertones, the banter and the world building all align with the promises given by the first glance at this book. However, I found the descriptions of the details to be over the top and unnecessary. The first chapter in and the clouds are being characterized as occupying a street, which made little sense and gave the story a whimsical feeling that doesn’t fit with the language used by the characters. I found that the author, while it may have fit the story, made large racial or religion issues prominent to the point that it took away from the mystery and thriller side of the writing.
Although, the characters were well written. Some of the characteristics seemed to slide into easily made categories. Whether it be a boss who is soft of the main character or a sidekick cop who seems to fumble through life. It was slightly disappointing but enjoyable. Cookie cutter characters are sometimes necessary but people are different enough that repetitions isn’t great. Especially in mystery, it takes the guesswork out of the “final reveal”.
Overall, the book isn’t as heart stopping as it’s made out to be. The book was kind of disappointing, I’ve read some gripping thrillers and this just wasn’t it.
Having received an advance copy via Net Galley I was looking forward to reading this authors book and I was not disappointed, from the first page to the last it kept you gripped and desperate to ensure the main characters came through okay
This is just as good as the DI Gus McGuire books and look forward to reading many more
An amazing start to what I hope turns into a series . A story so twisted it makes your head spin in s good way . The main character is so flawed so broken you just want to help her out herself together again .
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
It's a well written mystery thriller.
I like Nikki as she deal with family issues and her banter with her partner Sajid as they investigate a skeleton found under an old car.
When the identification of the skeleton is learn it throws Nikki into a tail spin when her and team investigate it's conclude their a serial killer at large as we get to hear inside the perpetrators as they deal with the victims as Nikki determined to clear her name she also trying to get a local drug cartel Franco off her estate.
The characters were well written and strong as it's deal with conscious bias. I'm look forward to reading more from this author.
A cracking good read, Liz Mistry has done it again with this book. A unique storyline set in Bradford which like most big cities has it's share of drug-related crime and gang warfare. I loved the banter between Nikki and Sajid and I loved the way the author used the Yorkshire dialect to bring the story to life. Bones have bee discovered when building work is being carried out, Nikki and Sajid are called out to the scene but nothing can prepare Nikki for the revelations that unfold and which have lasting repercussions on her family and all she holds dear.
I enjoyed reading the Gus McGuire series by Liz Mistry, so I was pleased to receive an advance copy of Last Request from NetGalley. This new series features DS Nikita Parekh and her team and is set in Bradford. Very gritty with some fantastic new characters - looks like this will be another cracking series of books
Slightly ambivalent on this one - well drawn characters and well written although far too much bad language for me - guess I perceive it as the norm for the characters though. Set in the seamier side of Bradford and deals with drugs, poverty and otherwise sensitive issues amongst a mixed population. The author pulls no punches in discussing racial or religious tensions which makes for some uncomfortable reading. How can we help increase tolerance in the face of such biases? The cast of detectives is strong with what is becoming a rather jaded strong, single minded, slightly maverick female lead who has family issues - possibly more of each than is often the case - and her opposite gay DS who is a strong character in his own right. We also have the ambitious cop, the slightly bumbling cop and the "I've got your back" boss. There are two threads to the story - the fight to take down the local drug cartel now that the bad boy is back in town and the discovery of a skeleton under an old car park. Nikki has more personal and family problems when the identification of the skeleton is made. These are compounded, in some areas, when she makes a link with other, unsolved murders and the team concludes that there is a serial murderer at large in the city. We do, of course, have the italicised thoughts of the perpetrators throughout the book as they "deal" with several of their victims. The denouement was rather unexpected at one level although there were few characters left in the pool by then. Their "reason" was all too sad and an equally sad reflection on a different, but growing, group of the population, Overall it's a well-written if rather unpleasant detective story dealing with racial and religious concepts - thought provoking nonetheless. Other than the language the one thing I really disliked was a comment made by the author in the acknowledgements' section "...Last Request delivers an inclusive range of characters and, I hope, reflects Bradford". NO!!!!!!. It might reflect one aspect of Bradford, but there are many many positives for this city and its multi-cultural, mixed heritage population Don't knock the whole place because of the minority of misfits please, the media already does more than enough of that. .Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
