Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
ASK ME NO QUESTIONS is the second novel and the first in a new crime thriller series featuring DS Kate Munro by author Louisa de Lange. This is an excellent character-driven novel that involves a twin relationship and a police detective. The novel is set in Southampton, where the author has lived most of her life.
This is a great book which deals with the relationship between twins and the police.
This book is so well written and is addictive. It is filled with such well developed characters and many twists and turns
Enjoyed this book and it kept me gripped throughout. Plenty of twists and turns and some pretty good ones. Looking forward to more from the author!
This book is exactly what a series opener should be!
Drip feeding the reader with snippets of backstory, building into an overwhelming sense of suspense that leaves you in thrall and wanting to find out more.
I flipped the pages on this ebook at speed, grateful it was not a physical copy as my fin gertips would be dying the death of a 1000 paprcuts!
Thea and Gabi are the sole survivors of a double murder-at the beginning of the book this golden family is ripped apart and stays that way.
You would think that having survived such a horrific event, and being twins, that they would have clung to each other, however, the sisters do the opposite and repel each other. Very different personality types mean that when Gabi is attacked in a park and left for dead, Thea is not only an early suspect of DS Kate Munro, she is a complete enigma to the reader.
The layers of a dark family history are peeled away to a shocking finale, and I absolutely did not solve the crime. Kate is a great creation , a detective with a back story all her own but she pushes it aside to remain a consummate professional, burying herself in the case which has all her antennae twitching. Something is very wrong in this sisterly relationship, and getting to the bottom of it takes some very dark turns indeed.
Fascintating and without any spoilers being revealed - nor my pet hate in blurbs and reviews, you'll never see it coming!, no, no NO!!!-I would urge fans of CL Taylor and SJ Bolton to check out 'Ask Me No Questions'
For if you don't ask any questions, then you cannot force anyone to lie...
Hurray and roll on DS Munro Book 2!
When Gabriella is attacked on Southampton Common, the race is on to find out who did it. Gabi's twin sister didn't realise she was back in the area so had a shock when she found out, and their child hood friend Harry has his own issues going on with the twins.
With a troubled past when the twin's parents were murdered and Harry's father serving time in jail for the crime, this is a heavily involved plot.
There was lots going on and I thought the book was well plotted, however I struggled to connect with the characters hence the lower rating.
Really enjoyed this book, kept you guessing and wanting more - looking forward to the next one and seeing what DS Kate Munro gets up to this time.
This was a fantastic read, that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. The book was well written and I can't wait to read some more by Louisa. Recommended.
Enjoyed this book, lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing till the end, would recommend to anyone
DI Kate Munro is investigating the attempted murder of Gabrielle. Events spiral when she meets Gabrielle’s twin sister Thea. Things don’t appear to be what they were initially in the investigation. I always try to guess ‘whodunit’ when I’m reading a novel, and I know it’s a good one when I don’t guess by the end of the book.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading.
This second book by Louisa de Lange featuring D.S. Kate Munro, was an extremely clever and entertaining storyline. The story is about twins, Gabrielle and Thea and their childhood friend Harry.
There were many twists and turns in the present story and it turned out there were many twists and turns in the death of the twins parents who were shot and killed and Harry’s father was convicted of their murders many years ago.
Ask me no questions is a taut, enjoyable read and it is only at the end that some of the questions are answered. I look forward to reading the next book in the D.S. Kate Munro series by the author.
Highly recommended
A police procedural told from the point of view of multiple characters, the story centred around twins Gabriella and Thea Patterson, the brutal murder of their parents fifteen years ago and a savage attack on Gabby that causes the estranged twins to reconnect.
DS Kate Munro, investigating the attack on Gabby feels she is going around in circles.
Herself lonely and trying to beat the system to get to the heart of this case, she suspects the murder all those years ago may have something to do with what happened to Gabby.
It seemed to focus on the same thing for too much time at one point but picked up towards the end.
Excellent twisty turny book, kept me guessing.
Great protagonists... excellent intrigue. Great backstory too which added to the atmosphere.
My only hesitation is that DS Kate Munro makes some seriously odd judgements... but hey, a flawed detective - what’s not to like?
A new author for me, one I’ll certainly look out for... and glad to see that this is the first of a series. A good read - 4*!

This is an excellent character-driven novel that involves a twin relationship and a police detective. The novel is set in Southampton, where the author has lived most of her life.
TWINS HAVE A SPECIAL BOND, and Gabi and Thea were like most identical twin sisters: inseparable, but different in any ways.
The novel opens in 2004, with a brutal murder of local residents, Robert and Madeleine Patterson by lover’s neighbor, Harrison Becker, after Madeleine had ended their affair. Becker confessed to killing the couple in a jealous rage, and now is in prison.
Madeleine and Robert Patterson were survived by their identical twin 18-year-old daughters, Gabriella and Thea Patterson. At the time of the murder, the twins had been in the garden with Harry Becker, also 18, the son of Harrison Becker.
Now fast forward fifteen years later, D.S. Kate Munro interviews Thea Patterson, regarding the investigation of a violent attack on early Sunday morning, of her sister, Gabriella Patterson, (Gabi) who is in hospital in a coma with severe head injuries. Thea claims that, until last week, the twins hadn't spoken in fifteen years. Thea was unaware of the attack. But what caused their separation? And what brought them back together so suddenly?
Digging into the case, DS Kate Munro is convinced the crime was personal. Now she must separate the truth from the lies and find the dangerous assailant, before another person is murdered.
Ask Me No Questions is an addictive well-written crime novel with well-developed characters, lots of red herrings full of twists and turns from beginning to end. This novel will keep you on your toes deciding who the culprit is and why. The surprise ending tied everything together. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, Orion Publishing Group, NetGalley and The Book Club Reviewer Request Group (FB) for my digital copy.
Ask Me No Questions...Tell You No Lies...
Interesting plot, interesting characters, well thought out and kept me guessing to the end. It felt like it lost pace in the middle but glad I read to the end. Would defo read another by this author!
Review:
I've seen a few reviews for Ask Me No Questions and I've been desperate to read it for myself. It lived up to all my expectations and more! The writing style made the novel really easy to read and I was gripped the whole way through.
The detective investigating Gabi's attack is Detective Sergeant Kate Munro. I warmed to her character very easily and I admired her "no nonsense" approach to her work. She's also not afraid to break a few rules which gives the investigation an interesting edge. I'm not sure if there is a series planned for Kate, but I would definitely like to read more of her. There are some issues bubbling under the surface and it would be great if these were explored in further books.
The protagonists of Ask Me No Questions are Thea, Gabi and Harry. They are not the easiest characters to like but the relationship between them and their shared history is fascinating and adds to the tense atmosphere that runs through the novel.
Ask Me No Questions is full of twists and turns - some of which made my jaw hit the floor. I raced through the chapters desperate to know what would happen next.
Fifteen years ago, identical twin sisters, Gabi and Thea, along with their friend, Harry, were at their home when the twins' parents were murdered. Harry's father was convicted of the killings and is languishing in prison. The gun used in the killing was never found.
Now adults, the twins have not spoken since the funeral of their parents. Thea has stayed and is still Harry's best friend. What has caused this split between the girls? And why has Gabi come back?
After a night out, Gabi is assaulted and is now in a coma. Thea and Harry didn't know that she was back in town.
DS Kate Munro and her team are called in to investigate. Was this something personal? Or something else? Same people ... same families ... but is it more than just bad luck?
There are twists and turns and many surprises along the way. The characters are complex ... when it comes to identical twins, one can only imagine the games they could play. The suspense is palpable leading to an unpredictable ending.
Many thanks to the author / Orion Books / Netgalley / THE Book Club Reviewer Group FB) for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this book! So many twists and turns I was nearly going round in circles! Great plot, loved the storylines and I thought the characters were well written and fleshed out.
There are a good few characters in this book, and it takes a little concentration to remember who is who, but I did follow the story easily.
I very much look forward to more books by this author.
This got off to a fairly slow start but then turned into a bit of a rollercoaster as the story developed. Lots of mystery sustained and plot revealed at a good pace with everything tying up neatly, but not in an unrealistic way, at the end. Recommended.
After seeing other reviews for this I had high expectations but unfortunately for me they were not met.
The story resolves around twins Gabi and Thea, their childhood friend Harry, a brutal incident 15 years previously and an unexplained attack in present time on Gabi. DS Kate Munro is leading the investigation but has issues of her own.
I loved the premise of this story but struggled as I found none of the characters likable despite their traumatic pasts. There were lots of twists in the tale, some implausible. The behaviour of DS Munro I found beyond ridiculous. As this is the first in a series perhaps she will become more rational and relatable to over time .
