A quick and witty read, I enjoyed the frequent use of Scots colloquialisms - and the Glossary at the beginning for those not so au fait with the patter. "Panto Girl" is an enjoyable comedy and this is the perfect time of year to get stuck into the exploits of the residents and visitors in Lochgilphead. Kerrie Noor portays small village life with accuracy and aplomb.
I received a complimentary copy of Panto Girl from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was a cute and unique story. Though it was shorter than expected, it had a lot of depth of plot and characters. I especially enjoyed the discord between one woman and the postman! Humorous and realistic. I would gladly read more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
I started this with high hopes which were dashed by chapter 7.
The whole trope about the foreigner who doesn’t understand English slang, especially in Scotland, got old. And the barmy village has been done better.
I failed to finish .
First, thank you to Net Galley for the free ARC for an honest opinion.
This book looked like it would so much fun, especially with a twist that followed a fairy tale. Plus, I was looking forward to reading a novella after reading a few long books recently. Unfortunately, this was a DNR at the 22% mark. I was actually ready to give up much earlier, but I really wanted to give it a chance to get better. I don't know if it was the stilted writing, the characters that kept popping up without real introductions, but this story was impossible for me to follow.
It's not my usual genre but from time to time I like to read different styles and there were some funny parts in this but I'm not sure if I needed to have read the other books in the series first or if it can be read as a stand alone book. I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased.
This is the third book in the series, and I haven't read the other two, yet.
The book was easy to read, funny at times, it made me smile several times, but it never had me laughing out loud.
The characters are well described and they are realistic. I had trouble identifying some of them at times, since there are many.
As I read the story, I couldn't helpnfeeling that I was missing something. Maybe I was missing info from the previous books, or some context on panto itself. As I was getting ready for the action to take place and was familiar with most characters, the story ended.
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
A humorous book, funny at times but I found other than the humour it didn’t hold my interest much
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
The chapter titles are funny but that's about all. Too many characters to keep straight and I feel as if I've been dropped in on the action in the middle of the second scene with no background info to help sort things out.
