This is a corker of a book. I raced through it. I found the narrative a bit disconcerting when it flipped to first person, but just ran with it in the end. I was a big frustrated at the beginning because I was convinced the police were heading off on the wrong path, and then the plot took hold and kept me captivated right until the end.
There’s a few underlying storylines to be explored in future books, and I’m really looking forward to the next one. Thanks for letting me read and review.
I really enjoyed this. So full of twists and turns I didn’t have a clue who was responsible for what? Really well written in fact parts got me quite emotional. A brilliant twist at the end leaves me waiting for more! Highly recommend
Enjoyed the story line but absolutely hate the tweets other extra inserts. Some may enjoy them but for me it makes for disjointed reading and I don't feel they add value.
DI Fawley is investigating a case that bears a remarkable resemblance to one he investigated over 20 years ago. The culprit has been in prison ever since, although he has always pleaded his innocence. Did Fawley send the wrong man to prison or is it a copycat killing?
Personally, I think this is Cara Hunter’s finest book yet, mainly because the plot focusses more on D I Fawley and his home life. Also, Fawley’s team as a whole were given more prominence rather than the emphasis being on the alleged murderer / victim.
As usual, we have the Tweets and Facebook mentions to add authenticity to the story.
Cara Hunter is meticulous in portraying the day to day grueling detective work. I, for one, never try and second-guess her, but rather follow the murder inquiry as a bystander, this way I get the true feeling of the investigation as it is played out.
When a teenage girl is attacked but doesn’t report it to the police, Fawley and his team investigate the reasons why. Adam is already quite highly strung with his wife being pregnant and he wants to protect her and then an old case comes back that could jeopardise everything.
Cara has done it yet again! When you wonder can this series continue to excel the answer is YES! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
From the very first page I was drawn into the investigation alongside DI Adam Fawley and his team.
I got totally immersed in the enquiry into the assault of a young woman, Faith, spotted in severe distress by a passing taxi.
For some reason Faith will only admit to being attacked and refuses to cooperate any further with the Police.
Why is the question?
Fawley knows there is a lot more she isnt telling them, though it isnt until another girl goes missing and similarities are discovered between them that everything escalates.
A potential link to one of Fawleys old cases, the possibility of a miscarriage of justice, the likeliness of a hate crime and when the second girls body is found murder!.
All these threads are drawn together, through many twists and turns and had me gripped.
What was finally revealed as the reason behind the crimes was shocking, the brutality chilling and totally believable.
Another amazing book, I cant wait for the next episode in the DI Fawley series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Books (UK) for the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
I have absolutely loved all of the Adam Fawley books, set in the beautiful Oxford and this title really did live up to the high expectations I had of it.
Cara Hunter really does have a fantastic style of writing that keeps you hooked, with every chapter making you want to read more and more, and I did. I really found this book hard to put down!
The story is set in Oxford when a young girl is found dazed and confused after a horrific attack, she survives but unfortunately the outcome isn't the same for the second girl that is abducted. Without giving too much away, the story really is full of twists that keep you guessing where the book is going and who is guilty and who is innocent. I also liked how it touched on lots of current issues, such as the impact of technology and social media on teenagers and also the topic of transgender.
It was also a bonus for me to carry on finding out more about Adam Fawley and his team, as the main characters have been a focus in the previous books.
I absolutely love the Adam Fawley series, which is strange for me as I usually hate detective fiction. I much prefer domestic or psychological thrillers. But these detective stories are awesome, mainly because I really care about the characters. Adam Fawley is a deeply troubled and incredibly sad character who has had to face some terrible hardships in his life. His tragic wife has also had terrible things happen to her. And so you feel incredibly attached to these characters from the start. not only that, the rest of the Thames Valley police team are used in a great way - they are not just bland cardboard cut outs of characters there to move the plot along; instead they are deep and well fleshed out characters which add to the plot and allow you as a reader to follow their story and their journey in Cara Hunter's fictional world.
This book is the 4th in a series and I am caught up with them all. I loved this book - I wasn't as keen on the 3rd one and was really worried this might be a little bit of a let down. But I found it horrifying, moving and incredibly interesting. I couldn't put it down. I don't want to spoil anything so all I'll say is you need to pick it up and give it a read!
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely fantastic! The way Cara writes, she makes you want to rush on and read the next paragraph or chapter. She always leaves each part on a small cliff hanger- this made the storyline more addictive to read. I also enjoyed how she included snippets of text messages, Instagram and email style images- I think she is the first crime author I’ve read to do this, and I found it made the book more enjoyable.
Most authors have the story tied up at the 90% mark (on kindle) but this story just kept on giving until the very last sentence. The storyline was very clever, had a lot of twists and turns and I didn’t for a second guess who the killer was. The very last part of the book makes me want to check out Cara Hunter’s next book to see if there’ll be more on this!
I haven’t read the previous books by Cara, but I will definitely be downloading them. Whilst this is an easy read, I did find myself getting confused about the names of the different police officers (this is probably just me though!) Also, whenever reading, I notice spelling and grammar mistakes, I think there was only two in the entire book- which is really good!
Will definitely be adding Cara to my favourite authors list, and will be reading more by her.
Another amazing read from Cara Hunter. I couldn’t wait to start reading this as I love her previous books.
I throughly enjoyed the pace of this book, starting slowly but with so much information and finishing with that ending. Which i did not expect at all.
Cara keeps bringing us more and more such as the background of Fawley and his wife, and new relationships. I cannot wait for the next instalment.
Well done Cara, absolutely brilliant once again. Thank you for the advanced copy
I read this not long after finishing the previous book in the series, and this did not disappoint. I liked the continuity from where the last book finished and again the way this book is written in the narrative of the different characters. It was nice to catch up with DI Adam Fawley and his colleagues. Another great book by Cara Hunter. Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another great book from cara Hunter, I have read her three previous books and was so pleased to get this fourth one to review!
D I Adam Fawley yet again leads an investigation that takes you on a most unexpected journey the twists and turns just keep coming to keep you guessing right until the end! Nice to have the continuity of oxford and several other characters who have been in previous books.
A great read that tackles some very distressing and disturbing topics particularly as it is all planned, schemed and orchestrated but mere school children which is so very sobering and quite enlightening at the same time! Overall a great read that will keep you guessing! Thank you net galley for this early read
The foiled abduction of a student followed the apparent rape and gruesome murder and of a teenage girl looks very similar to the crimes of a man in jail for the last 18 years. DI Fawley is sure the right man is in prison but reporters, and his superiors are concerned..Is this a copycat or did he mess up 18 years ago? A brilliantly written story of detection with a few twists and surprises on the way.
How does Cara Hunter do it? This is another brilliant thriller and I couldn’t put it down. It was responsible for too many late nights and looking tired at work!
Adam Fawley helped to put away a criminal years ago - one who preyed on woman. Is there now a copycat out there? A young woman is attacked and some of her hair has been pulled out - just what Gavin Parry did years ago, before he was caught. Then, a young girl is killed and the team need to find out who is doing this before someone else is attached.
Full of twists and turns, and great characters. You just have to keep reading to find out whodunnit! Definitely worth reading but don’t expect to get anything else done.
Detectives are trying to find out who had assaulted a teenage girl but neither the girl or her mother will make a complaint or tell the police what happend.
I did not realise that this was the fourth book in a series and I have not read any of the previous books. I found this storyline a little hard to follow.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Books UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Again another great instalment in the DI Adam Fawley series.
A taxi driver spots a young female walking along a street seemingly in distress. After taking her home he is still troubled and reports the incident to the police. After visiting the young lady it’s clear an assault of some description has occurred but the victim won’t make a statement. Why?
An old case that Adam was involved with is being heard for appeal against conviction. Did Adam fabricate evidence for a secure conviction?
A gripping police procedural novel that will keep you reading.
Many thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely love Cara Hunter’s books and was so excited to read her new release - and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Right from the opening page, Cara Hunter manages to hook you in. This book, her fourth in the series, is very current and in keeping with today’s society. She touches upon many challenges and issues teenagers/young adults are dealing with today and mixes it with a tense and thrilling ride of emotions. The use of Twitter feeds and social media emphasises this as well as incorporating society’s current love of true crime documentaries!
As well as all the current issues, Cara Hunter intertwines a precious case Adam Fawley was involved with. By doing this we find out more about his life and the challenges and emotions he himself is working through.
As with all her books, I find her writing fast paced and she leaves you wanting to read more! Her books seem to be getting better as the series progresses but perhaps this is because we continue to learn about the main characters and follow their lives with them. Full of twists, turns and thrills - this is definitely edge of your seat writing!
I had high expectations with this book after reading the previous 3 DI Fawley books and wasn’t disappointed. It started off really well and was fast paced and thrilling. And the further I read the better the book got. Really likeable characters, written that well I felt I knew them. Lots of twists and turns in the plot and finding out who the killer was shocked me. And the ending - wow, what a cliffhanger. Makes me eager to read the next book.
You can read this without reading the previous three books, and there are references in All The Rage to previous events. I’d recommend you read them though, you get to know more about DI Fawley and his past and who he is.
If you love crime, murder books would really recommend giving this a go.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another great addition to the DI Adam Fawley series. Plenty of twists and turns and red herrings so you think you know the culprit but then something happens to make you think again. It can be read as a stand-alone but I would advise to read the series in order so you can get the background into Adams character. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
Cara Hunter has done it again.
This 4th Adam Fawley novel is probably one of my favorite reads of the year. The story itself is extremely cleverly written and there are plot twists upon plot twists.
At one point, I thought I knew what had happened, but I was completely wrong. I truly enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone.
