A wonderful, heart warming read, I love the characters and their development throughout. Laura’s writing style is wonderful and so easy to read. Highly recommend for a quick, refreshing read!
If I'm being completely honest, I'm sorry to say I was disappointed in The Love Square. I am a huge fan of Our Stop, it was such a fizzing sexy read, unfortunately this second book doesn't live up to it at all. Whilst a different novel, it has a similar rom-com premise which falls flat for most of the book.
The first part was totally gripping, the budding relationship between the main character and Francesco is beautiful and sincere, and in the second half it completely falls apart. I found most of the characters irritating and unfortunately, there were so many things about it this novel that just didn't chime (Lizzo as a love interest? Your uncle forcing you to inherit his business with no care for your life? Random sex with a bloke you hate 20 years your senior?)
'It had a lot of potential, but it totally lacks tension and by the end, I was mostly just tired. Sadly can't recommend, but will keep the faith that Laura's next book might be better!
This was a quick entertaining read. I was definitely expecting a little more humor in the book and feel it would have added a lot. The characters could have been more fleshed out as well. Overall I liked this but wouldn't call it a favorite. The plotline was a little heavy at times and perhaps I wasn't in the mood for that at the time but I still enjoyed this book.
Who knew one woman's love life could be so complicated?!
I'm not even sure Penny was intending her life to get this messy, she has enough other things to contend with, but yet things just seemed to spiral.
And she ends up in what can only be described a a Love Square! There are 3 men all vying for her attention, and she can't admit to herself which one is blatantly right for her.
Added to this she is a talented chef, and there is plenty of food mentions to tantalise the taste buds.
This is the first book I've read by the author and I was delighted to discover what an enjoyable writing style she has, and just how pleasurable this was to read.
I read The Love Square over an afternoon on holiday, and was hooked, even going so far as to sit dangling my feed in the pool, while continuing to read, as needed to cool off but wanted to see what would happen next!
Definitely an author for me to to keep an eye on in the future, and I probably should at some point definitely read my copy of Our Stop too!
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I loved most of this book. Some of the characters were a little to unlikable at moments to me. Cute easy read.
We love and respect Laura Jane Williams in this house! Her first book, Our Stop, was a major flop for me so i was nervous to read her second book. I like how her characters are unique and have conversations like real people and deal with their problems in healthy ways.
Fun, easy and lighthearted read that is perfect for a cosy night in! Written incredibly well and was enthralling for a reader, with characters it was easy to connect with. I teamed this up with the audio book as well (which was fab!) and I just adored it!
started off with a really strong plot, but then fizzled out a bit. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable book that I would recommend as a light read to anyone who enjoys this genre
This was lovely - I also had a copy that I gave to my nan, who loved it! The characterisation was on point!
Such a cute and fun read! Perfect distraction in life right now. Really enjoyable characters and story and hard to put down!
The Love Square by Laura Jane Williams- “she’s single. But it can still be complicated... Penny Bridge has always been unlucky in love so she can’t believe it when she finds a remarkable new man.
Followed by another. And then another... and all of them want to date her. Penny has to choose between three. But are any of them the one?”
This is the first book I have ever read by this author and I honestly wasn’t very impressed. I don’t like leaving negative reviews for books but I found the story quite boring and felt it was dragged out too much. I found I didn’t like any of the characters especially the main character Penny. I found that most of the time Penny really annoyed me. One thing I did like about this story was it’s ending. I felt like it was the closure that this story needed. I’d give this story a 2⭐️
I really enjoyed Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams so was looking forward to cracking on with The Love Square.
The Love Square follows Penny's journey to self-discovery through three different relationships. A great premise and I did love Penny who felt authentic. The men didn't really float my boat but each to their own, and it was fun watching Penny develop as her own character.
Some deeper issues dealt with sensitively and Williams' has a fun writing style so I enjouyed this and found it easy to read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.
This was a cozy feel-good RomCom. I felt for Penny's health situation and the resulting decisions. But I was actually a tiny bit annoyed that there were (suddenly) three men to choose from. And it took Penny so long to listen to her heart.
The many head hops throughout the read made for a very tedious read, and then having the prologue already showing us a lot of what happens and then having to backtrack to a few months before and figure it all out further made this a hard slog. Also found the heroine totally self-centered and entrenched so far in victim mentality and her woe-is-me routine that totally turned me off let alone allowed me to be sympathetic to her plight. Sadly, not for me - I could not enjoy this one
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this a lot. I felt like I really connected with Penny and could see myself in her. I had no idea what to expect from the end of this book and I enjoyed it a lot.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
Thrilled to see an ethically non-monogamous relationship in a commercial fiction book, even if his character is presented as a stereotypical player (tour manager and all). A fun and emotional read, and I especially love stories that feature food, cooking and/or restaurants.
I flew through the first half of this book. The concept and setting were fresh and fun. Loved the issue of whether Penelope should stay in her own business or move to the country manage her beloved uncle’s restaurant. Loved the side characters as well, felt they added great perspective and diversity.
However, somewhere around the second half of this book, it started to drag on. The idea that she had to see all three guys seemed a little strange to me, and some of the scenes seemed there just for shock value. I found the relationship with one of the guys a little far fetched and uncomfortable, which is probably why it took me forever to get through.
This is a quick, easy read, perfect for the summer. It's fairly predictable, but still enjoyable. I really loved Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams so was looking forward to reading this.

I liked Penny for most of the book, but particularly towards the end, I felt her confidence and independence came across really well, and it showed how her character had developed. I actually didn't really care for any of the three guys, I didn't really find any of their relationships particularly believable, they felt a bit too cliché. I felt like the book was more about Penny and her journey and the "love square" was just a part of that - I think I'd have enjoyed the book more if it had focused on her and made the love interests a bit of a sub-plot.
.
I was impressed at how the book dealt with issues of infertility very sensitively, and the book also included great LGBTQ+ characters.
.
I really like Williams' writing style, though at times the dialogue felt a little stilted. I'd probably give it 3.5/5, it's not the most groundbreaking rom-com I've read, but it's perfect if you want a lovely, easy read.
Penny Bridges, a cafe owner is struggling to find the man of her dreams. She can't believe her luck when finally, one comes along. But then so does another guy. And then another one too. How can Penny choose between the three? How will she know which one is right for her?
The Love Square was on my highly anticipated list as I really loved the author's previous book, Our Stop. Her writing style is amazing and you are instantly hooked into her books from page one. This book was no exception however something happened in the middle of this book and I went from loving the book to vigorously shaking my head. I understood that Penny felt she was unlucky in love but for her to think sleeping with 3 men at a time was okay and was going to solve her situation just didn't sit right with me. The Penny I was hoping would get her happy ending at the start of the book became the Penny I hoped would sort her priorities out instead midway through the book. I won't give spoilers away but will say that the ending was a tad unrealistic too.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve had Our Stop on my shelves since it came out and after reading this one, which is the authors second book, I regret not picking that one up yet!! Swipe to see synopsis for The Love Square.
Thank you to @avon and @netgalley for the #freebook !
Things I loved:
•unique romance with a “love square” vs love triangle
•cute, sweet, witty
•a feel good read
•quick pacing, never got bored
•loved the characters
Things that weren’t my fave:
•although unique, it wasn’t super memorable
•lack of communication between characters at times (pet peeve of mine - JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!)
Overall, an enjoyable, feel good book. Pick it up if you need something lighter, something to take your mind off the heaviness of the world right now - it’s perfect for that! 4⭐️
