This book was nothing I expected!!! What a thrilling ride! What looks like a standard psychological thriller about rich wives soon becomes an hypnotising tale where love, lust and death dance in unison. This book is so surprising, it is impossible to rave about it without giving any spoilers! Just read it, you will not regret it!

Loved the synopsis of the book but a quarter in gave up. Well written but not for me. That's the reason why there are so many books and genres, not everyone likes to read the same things. Older male, recently widowed meets manipulative younger female. Takes her home after marrying her to his older social circle. Upsets the status quo and underhand dealings of his business partner and his second marriage.

Being a younger 2nd wife in a reputable, wealthy group of long standing friends was never going to make for easy bonding...Especially when the 2nd wives have unfavourable pasts that the original group would certainly frown upon. Apparently, keeping their past a secret is not as easy as they first thought.

To me this was a combination of Real housewives meets Desperate Housewives with hints of Big Little Lies: rich, scandalous, frivolous, unfaithful, immoral, unhappy humans who look like they love life and have it all...look like!

I loved the shorter chapters and how they flitted between Keisha and Marcie. At the same time, it was slow start and seemed long winded to get to the peak of the story. By half way through I struggled to see the thriller elements, feeling more of a mystery and even questioned the direction and purpose of the plotline. It was documenting the high life and their unstable dramas, which was undeniably entertaining but not the thriller I had anticipated. BUT, by part 3 as more was unveiled and voodoo/ mysterious occurrences were introduced I was more intrigued: it became unputdownable! By the final part, the thriller style was ranked up as was creepiness and thus my need to solve the mystery. I did not see the ending coming at all! (Well most of it). Definitely worth reading.

This is the first book I have read by this author.
There is a lot going on in this book, love, lust, money, power, greed, jealousy and voodoo.
Marcie is Jason’s 2nd wife, they socialise with Jason’s business partner and the elite from the country clubs. Jason’s partner William has just returned from London with a dazzling very young 2nd wife on his arm. All eyes are on the beautiful young Keisha, Marcie is not happy when she notices Jason’s eyes are also glued to the new arrival among their set and she is definitely going to stir things up.
I was quite enjoying the story in the first half, even if it was a little unbelievable, but when the voodoo crept into the second half and with the already unlikeable characters, I lost interest, and I did feel the storyline was slow and repetitive in places, there are a few twists, but for me it just didn’t work.

I was excited to read this book as I am a fan of the author. However, I was a little disappointed. A weak and rather silly plot. Unlikable characters-not enough going on.

I struggled to read this book as I felt that for the majority of it nothing happened. I felt the plot didn’t know which direction it wanted to go and it became a bit of a chore to read. Having said that, the final chapters of the book finally came into their own and became the book I was after hence the three stars. I was glad I persevered but this wasn’t one of my favourites. Gripping book about the twisted lives of an elite society. Love, hate, murder, voodoo so much going on it was a fantastic read

I am such a fan of Sarah Pinborough and this book did not disappoint. It keeps you hooked from the very first page and you are constantly on edge throughout.

Wow this was a RIDE! It went down so many plot twists that I would never have seen coming and the writing really kept me hooked for more. I must admit it was a little slow at the start, as I didn't really know where the story was going to take me, but the more I read, the more drama kicked off and the more I was captivated by it. I love Sarah and her books and this one is no different!

When I was sent this book to review I was very excited as it had been in my TBR pile as soon as I found out about this hotly anticipated thriller. It had a great premise, although I found the excitement was lacking and unfortunately this wasn't the thriller I had hoped it would be.

I loved reading the dual viewpoint stories of Marcie and Keisha, two women who are part of high society in Georgia. This is a page turning psychological thriller written with a masterful touch with a ton of twists and turns all the way to the incredible ending.

Dead To Her is my first experience with the author. I found the synopsis interesting and wanted to try some thrillers as I haven't been picking them up as of late. The story is a mystery, thriller and follows Marcie and Keisha. Marcie is the second wife of Jason Maddox. Her entry to the social circle was challenging and gaining acceptance from the other society wives was difficult. However, after some years, she has finally settled into the comfort of her position as Jason's wife. All sense of security is lost when her husband can't keep his eyes off his boss's new wife Keisha. She is beautiful, wild, and bold. Marcie is not going to let an interloper take away her hard-earned stability. The story overall was interesting. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of it. The who-dunnit style story had its positive moments. While there were twists and turns keeping the reader glued to the book, there were parts that were hard to wrap my head around. I felt the plot was all over the place and took a lot of time to get to the mystery part of it. The story went on too long with Marcie and Keisha's inner monologues, rants, and explicit scenes to get to the point of the story. The plot and pacing were erratic and felt unorganized to me. I didn't also expect it to be quite explicit in a lot of scenes. I guess not knowing about was quite a shock when the scenes happened. I wasn't expecting it. It also took up a lot of space in the story and to me, it didn't feel necessary to add them. The characters were what you would expect the stereotypical society ladies to behave. The social hierarchy, malice towards new members, conceited behavior is all on point. As I mentioned earlier, the whole story was a mix of things, while the plot twists kept on coming literally until the end and with an ending leaving you gobsmacked, the execution could have been better in my opinion. This book was not for me and I know a lot of people enjoyed the crazy ride this book takes you on, so it might be different for everyone. I personally didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. I thought the book was ok, and it had the potential to be really good. I gave the book 2.5 stars.

As a fan of Sarah Pinborough’s last two novels, I was looking forward to reading Dead to Her and am grateful to Harper Collins Fiction and Netgalley for their ARC in exchange for my honest review. At the outset, Dead to Her has all the ingredients that usually make a thrilling read – a glittering, compelling location in Savannah, several strong characters, each with their secrets to keep, and a plot with many twists that promises to gather pace.

It became clear very quickly to me, however, that I would not enjoy Pinborough’s latest offering. The first half of the book was very slow going, with endless shallow dialogues that highlighted just how stereotypically drawn the individual characters were. Rich husbands who do a little work at the office and then play golf, glamorous younger wives who lunch and fill the rest of their time with a little charity work and shopping and a younger woman manipulating an older one…..it all appeared very predictable. The writing often appeared sloppy and hasty and caricatured how people in Georgia are perceived to speak. More could have been made of the evocative setting of Savannah….and of the characters’ individuality, which would have added greatly to the plot.

Having enjoyed Pinborough’s work in the past, I shall continue to follow her writing, and hope her next offering reprises her form, but this novel definitely was not for me.

After an affair beautiful Marcie Maddox has gone up in the world and is now the beautiful second wife to Jason - whose attention she works hard to keep on her. But then Jason's boss brings home a young and stunning British wife after a holiday and Marcie needs to be careful not to be usurped as "the gorgeous second wife". The gloves are off, tension builds and something is about to happen.

This is a perfect summer read. Read it in a sun lounger with a glass of wine and you will definitely enjoy it.

Make this your sizzling summer read

This was an easy read that drew me in initially. I enjoyed the set up and felt the foundation was solid, but it took so long to build and then I just never felt like there was much of a pay off.

I was expecting more of a thriller, which I can’t say it was in any respect. Half way through It suddenly changed to an almost murder mystery, but with such a jumble of plot lines this didn’t quite feel right either. The best way to describe it is as a domestic drama, which there was certainly lots of!

I also felt a real lack of connection to any of the characters, a big driving force of the book is their relationships with each other but I never really felt fully invested in these so I struggled to understand their motivations.

Finally, I have to mention the voodoo and black magic arc. Now I’m definitely not one to be put off by this and I was intrigued to see how it turned out but, as with most of the book, it fell a little flat. With the poisoning and the black magic elements I was reminded of Agatha Christie’s ‘The Pale Horse’ but the theme wasn’t handled so well. I don’t expect a Christie level novel, and this book has added layers that made it very different, but there’s so much more information on the topic that Pinborough has at her fingertips that Christie didn’t which could have made this a truly memorable element.

As the sparks start to fly in the Savannah heat, the gloves are pulled off and everyone will learn that revenge is best served cold.

This is a steamy, lusty summer read, perfect for relaxing in the sun with a cocktail. I LOVE the tale of a second wife, full of twists, turns and delicious betrayals.

Definitely not Sarah Pinborough's best, but not terrible either. Having seen many negative reviews about this book, I was somewhat skeptical going into this read. I was hoping that I was going to enjoy it but I wasn't holding my breath. The good news is that I quite enjoyed this one. Here's a brief summary of my thoughts:

What I liked:
* I thought that the first 70% of this book was really interesting and I was gripped by the way the story was developing, and the different relationships that were being formed
* It was clear at all times that the story was building and that something disastrous was going to happen. I enjoyed that feeling of suspense.
* Lots of secrets and plenty of domestic drama.
* The pacing was fairly good, and the story moved along. For the most part, I didn't feel bored and I was interested in seeing where things were going because it wasn't always clear.

What I didn't like:
* The last 30% seemed to veer off track and suddenly there were so many characters coming into the picture, and events from the past coming to light, most of which just came straight out of the blue.
* Many of the characters were unlikable, and all of them were privileged, wealthy and very superficial. I didn't form strong bonds with any of them.
* The voodoo elements didn't bother me particularly, but I just failed to see what they really added to the story.
* This story lacked a real OMW moment, and there wasn't really much of a twist. The reveal at the end about who-dunnit was pretty boring and didn't come as that much of a surprise.

Overall, this was an average read. I didn't feel like I'd wasted my time, nor did I feel rewarded for the hours spent reading this book. It was okay.

Another incredible book by Sarah Pinborough. Not only is it well written the plot is interesting and the characters are amazing. I loved how she managed to create such a thrilling read. I was captivated until the end

I really wanted to like this book but I struggled with it.
I love a psychological thriller but when the author throws voodoo in to the mix with a side order of the supernatural it’s not for me.
Had it stayed with the synopsis of high society relationships, adultery and murder I would have been happier but this one just wasn’t for me and it was the first book in a long time I didn’t/couldn’t finish.
