Definitely not what I was expecting! I didn’t have a clue the whole book would be about organized crime and the families involved. None of the characters were particularly likable, but I managed to make it through the entire book. There was very little about the child found in the car. Lots of plodding along and too much detail about things that didn’t pertain to the story. All in all, it wasn’t a terrible book, just not the type I normally read.
The description of this book and what this book actually is are two totally different things. Very misleading synopsis. Had I known this was about organized crime I wouldn't have requested this.
This book will keep you gripped right from start untill the end, so many twists and turns and you think you know, then you don't! Just goes to show what damage secrets and lies can do!, I couldn't put it down and read it within a few days.
I'm sorry to say I gave up on this novel half way through. Started off brilliantly but it got too confusing with too many characters and little clarification who everyone was. I would have liked a cast list at the start, as I was lost keeping track of all the families. Thank you #netgalley for allowing me to read this.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
This one started out strong with an intriguing mystery and some suspense when a woman is driving on a dark road with her young son, another car is tailgating her which causes an accident, and, in the aftermath, she finds an additional passenger, an unknown child, in her car. That's the part that interested me and kept me reading. Unfortunately, the identity of the child takes a backseat (no pun intended) to the drama surrounding the woman's crime syndicate family and associates. There are many characters (mostly not likeable) and the plot gets confusing as it bounces around, with the child playing a minor role in most of the story. Not what I'd hoped or expected.
How would you feel if upon waking from a car crash you turn to check your child and find a strange child sat beside him, this is the sight that meets Holly Kendall
Although the story does answer the question there are a lot of other goings on that do keep you wondering
This book was misleading with title and description as it was more centralized around organized crime and not as much on the child. It was ok but the organized crime took over and took away from what the plot should have been. If you are into the crime family type books, this is definitely for you but that is not an interest of mine.
Holly is dealing with being a single mother after leaving her cheating husband. She is also dealing with her past coming back to her with her estranged family and their illegal activities. She is driving home one rainy night with her son Milo when she notices a car following very close behind. The car hits her bumper causing her to lose control of her vehicle and roll down a hill, causing her and Milo to lose consciousness. When she finally wakes and is able to pry the back door open, she finds not only Milo but another unconscious boy who Holly has never seen before. She feels an unexpected connection to this child and is determined to help him, even as he wakes up and refuses to speak. Once the child’s identity is revealed, Holly has to decide what the appearance of this child means, why he was in her vehicle and who placed him there.
Finding out the truth behind his appearance leads her back to her estranged criminal father and his competition. She soon finds out that there are more people involved in what happened over tens years ago and how it is connected to the sudden appearance of this child.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Holly is going through a nasty divorce from a cheating husband who wants to fight her for custody of their son Milo. Extremely stressed, working as much as possible in order to financially keep her house, dealing with the nasty threatening texts that her soon to be ex has been sending her and taking care of young Milo. Driving home late one afternoon fighting traffic and the rain she takes as alternate route on a twisty unlit road. It seems a car is following her. Fear is gripping her. Holly has to swerve in the road and crashes. Upon waking she discovers her son unconscious in the back seat and he is not alone! Another child is next to Milo also unconscious and bleeding. Both Holly and Milo are recovering but the mysterious child is in intensive care. Holly escaped a family and neighborhood of drug lords and human traffickers. However, she knows you can never be totally free. When Milo is abducted, taken right out of his bed, her life becomes a desperate search. Who took Milo and why. Her ex, someone from her past? Can she really rely on the police who were never on the same side of the law as her past family. Also who is this boy who was left in her car? Each day her son is gone is agony. Who is friend and who is not. Who is this boy left in her car? Was someone purposely trying to run her off the road?
The story keeps you interested and if you can accept the language you will find a story that is different. Thank you NetGalley D. E. White and the publishers for allowing me to read this ARC. This is my honest review. I'm not a fan of the language but it's well written.
The book started well but then seemed to drift off. The blurb was very good but sadly the book didn't live up to it. I didn't finish it .
3.5-4 stars
I enjoyed this book for the most part, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. Based on the synopsis, I thought the majority of the book would focus on the child who mysteriously appears in Holly’s car after she spirals off the road one night during a storm. The title alone, The Forgotten Child, also seems to allude to this. But there was so much more to the story, especially in regard to Holly’s painful past.
From drugs to sex trafficking to kidnapping to murder, this book was chock-full of surprises. However, throughout the entirety of the story, I really just wanted to know more about the little boy, and it turns out he’s hardly even in the book except in the beginning and the end. I do think it was a very well-written and intriguing storyline that kept my attention, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this book at the beginning and I really got involved with it but as the story progressed it seemed to change, and I lost interest and ended up doing a bit of skim reading.
Based on this I would be reluctant to recommend this to my friends and Book Groups but thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I’m torn on this one. The premise made if sound really interesting however it just didn’t live up to the blurb, parts of her book are well written but others seem lacking. Unfortunately I didn’t finish it.
I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of The Forgotten Child by D.E.White. Right from the start I was hooked.
Holly Kendall, a recently divorced mom to her only son Milo were driving home on a terribly dark raining night. A car came out of nowhere and road rage ensued behind her. There was no place to pull over sand Molly careened off the side of a mountain. She blacked out and when she came too she frantically started looking for Milo, but she saw someone else next to him, a little boy, she had no idea where he came from.
While in the hospital the police come to interview her and we come to learn she has a past with one of the officers. I liked how the author didn’t play out their encounter and we learned a little about Molly’s past, her family, her hometown and the cast of characters she grew up with.
This book had me at the edge of my seat throughout. Organized crime, police presence and the twists and turns trying to figure out who the little boy is made for an unputdownable book.
3.5-4 stars
The title and description were so intriguing. Unfortunately the book did not live up to either. It really didn't focus on the child but was about the seedier side and organized crime. Writing was choppy and hard to follow. Not a good fit for me.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Forgotten Child!
I was so incredibly intrigued with the plot of this story, I had to read it as soon as I got approved for it! Holly gets into a car accident and after a brief moment of unconsciousness gets out to make sure her son, Milo, is ok but when she looks in the back seat there are now 2 boys sitting in the back, unconscious from the crash.... ahhh what?? Exactly why I was so intrigued!! What comes next are so many secrets between families, best friends, spouses and exes. This was a very fast read but I must warn you, after a while you will feel like you’re reading a script from The Soprano’s. There were a bit too many characters for me and I found myself confusing them all and how they were related, but other than this one minor minor complaint, overall a good book! I definitely didn’t predict the ending at all!
Holly Kendal is trying to put her painful past and broken marriage behind her and focus on her beloved son, Milo. But while driving him home on a dark February night, Holly loses control on the rain-slicked tarmac, and her car spirals off the road.
When Holly regains consciousness, everything is silent and in the dark, she can’t see Milo. Desperately, she claws her way out of the car and forces the back door open.
To her relief, Milo is where she left him, injured but breathing – but then she sees something that makes her heart stop.
Milo isn't the only child in the car. Next to him is another little boy, unharmed but unconscious.
And Holly has absolutely no idea who he is.
There was far too many, and I had to jump back to see what I missed. I wish it lived up to what it could have been.
Good book! Lots of characters and different angles here that come together in some really shocking twists!
Great book will be reading other books by this author.
Will also recommend this book to others.
