I was excited to read this book but unfortunately I was disappointed. The pace was so slow and very boring.
The character development was none existent.
However the ending of the book was much better than I was expected.
An average book.

This was the first book with a interpreter featured, and I will definitely read the next two. Paige is the interpreter and I really liked her and her sister Anna. There was a lot of characters to get to grips with. I’d guessed who the killer is, which was a disappointment but the reasoning behind it was a shock.

Thanks goes to net galley and the publishers for providing me with a copy in exchange for an copy.

This was such an interesting concept with a hearing impaired interpreter helping to solve mysteries. It’s very rare that stories delve into this subject matter and it makes for a well written story.

I just could not get into this book. Not for want of trying . I found the characters unlikeable and the plot quite far fetched.

I enjoyed this so much!

First of all, it’s the sort of messy domestic thriller we love – full of sordid behavior, some characters you adore and some you just want to slap, and a really heinous murder. The book is fast paced, the case is fascinating, and the main character does very few stupid things (lol I hate stupid character syndrome).

But, it also takes place within the Deaf Community and I just loved being let into Deaf Culture for a bit. It seemed so authentic and, after reading the book, I was interested to find out that the author is Deaf and is a teacher within the community. I loved the way she intertwined her culture with a wonderfully messy murder mystery!

If I had one complaint, it was that there are a bit too many point of view chapters. Some characters have a ton of them, while others have just one. I realize it was so that we can have some insight into their own thoughts/behavior, but I did find myself wishing the author had chosen a different way to convey that.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I hope the author continues to offer us more thrillers in the future

Brilliant. This was a well written book that I greatly enjoyed and already plan to recommend. Believable characters and an inticing setting. Some parts were perhaps a little lengthy, but maybe because I was impatient to reach the novels conclusion! Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting perspective but predictable twist

I enjoyed reading and learning more about the deaf community and finding out things I didn’t know. The story was heartbreaking and the murder was horrific I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
But I guessed the murderer and the motive less than halfway through...

Imagine waking up and someone was in your home and killed one of your children, but because you are deaf you didn't hear a thing. Elisha and Alan Hunter wake up and find that one of their three children has been murdered overnight and they are brought into being questioned and in walks Paige Northwood who can hear, but grew up in a family with deaf mother, father and sister, so she has essentially been an interpreter her whole life.

Paige Northwood was a great character to follow during this story and I loved how she had a unique perspective on the deaf community and that in this town in England it is a tight knit group - so rumors can fly and quick. Paige is intwined in this investigation due to her relationship to the local deaf community and as her whole to interpret for them during these high stakes conversations with the police. I loved how the author put the parts of the conversations that were signed into italics, it was so easy to follow and helped me understand what was spoken verbally and what was signed.

This is my second book this year that has deaf characters and again I appreciated reading about characters that are far from my life experience and give me a look into how life looks like from their point of view.

I hope to read more by this author and with the way this book was put into Goodreads, it seems as though it is the start to the series, so I hope to see more of Paige Northwood.

The blurb of this book had me SO excited. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The beginning of the book was a little confusing to get into but I pushed through it. The mystery had me guessing most of the way through. I liked how the ASL communication was portrayed. This was a good read!

The Silent House is a book with a sad tale that will keep piercing little holes in my heart time and again. The ending was predictable yet disturbing.
The book starts with a rapid showdown, telling that something sinister has happened in the Hunter household. And Paige Northwood was to interpret the events from the Hunter's perspective.
The book is dragged a bit in the middle, and knowing what the big reveal is, it was tiring to finish things off with this read.
But I am giving four stars to it, even after a re-read, as both times what I loved was the detailed insight into a world that's so different yet so similar to ours.

I'm mixed on this one. I'll admit, the moment I read the premise, it had my attention. I don't think I've ever read a mystery/thriller novel where the victim AND suspects were all deaf. The lead being a sign language interpreter employed by the police to translate for the deaf family after the murder of one of the children was just a fantastic choice. Unfortunately, I feel like the whole book didn't live up to the incredibly interesting and unique premise. It's rather slow with surprisingly little tension (for me personally) throughout most of the novel. It wasn't until near the end that (FINALLY) some suspense was created.

However, considering this is a debut, I am definitely willing to give the author another chance in the future.

Okay, so this book isn’t bad per say, but it’s not very good, either. And that’s so sad because it has a really great premise.

There are many problems, but the worst part is the main character. I just couldn’t deal with how many times her rather weak personality stood in the way. Also, the ending was exactly what I saw coming, so there wasn’t even any surprises.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

This book was intriguing and engaging! It’s fast pace kept me on the edge of my seat. It also gave insight into the deaf community, which I found very interesting!

I really enjoyed this book, a thriller mystery who dunnit but from a unique and different perspective. Not only are the suspects and victims all part of the deaf community in one way or another, the main persons POV we follow is the interpreter. A position in an investigation I’d never usually consider. The family ties and unfolding twists kept me hooked from the beginning!

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I hoped I would. I found the storyline really interesting and liked most of the characters. However some of the characters were really hard to connect with and I didn’t like them. I was surprised by the twist at the end but also a little disappointed. There was also some inconsistencies within the story. Things we found out in one chapter were then completely different in the next chapter. Inconsistencies like this really frustrate me and really effect my review of a book. I found this book quite easy to read but some of the chapters were a bit too long for my liking. I like when the chapters are short enough for “just one more chapter” - but I didn’t get that feeling with this book. I can definitely see why some people love this book, but it just wasn’t for me!

An accomplished debut. An interesting premise, being set within the deaf community. Suspenseful and gripping. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

A chilling thriller set inside the world of the deaf. A silent world that we are given an insight to. .Very well written and tense. A true page turner.
My thanks to Net Galley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Having a daughter with hearing problems, this book grabbed my attention. This book was a fast paced read and I couldnt stop reading it. It talks about the effect the crime had on the community . Lots of secrets in this book. Literally anyone could be the suspect. It was slow in places but I still really enjoyed it.

Thank you for the e-arc!

The book was good. The concept was really good, which was the reason I requested for this galley in the first place. The beginning felt great, full power packed. But then it got a bit slow and then again at the end it managed to take the pace a bit faster. I was literally hooked to it. However, I still feel it kind of dragged in the middle. But the end was good. Also, my guess who the actual killer was correct!
The writing, language was very nuanced. Though I'd have loved a little bit more with respect to the character development.
I'd surely pick more from the author as I see the potential in the writing.
