I don't believe I'd heard of this author before but the cover and story description really drew me in. I love the colours used in the cover and the storyline was really interesting so I'm glad I requested it. In my eyes, a novel about Christmas and a wedding equals the perfect novel! The more I read it, the more I enjoyed it - this novel was magical.
What a great read! When a group of friends reconvene on Mistletoe Island for the wedding of Fliss-or Miss Fliss as they call her , due to her smiley , eager to please nature, they try to fall naturally into their previously assigned roles ..the Mum and Dad of the group, the playboy, the rejected lover etc. Though it initially appears that nothing has changed, it doesn't take long for fractures to appear and they are forced to realise they don't know themselves, or each other, as well as they thought. Some great characters and possibilities for a sequel! I was really amused by The Mothers!- though if I had to cope with them I'd be forced to add cyanide to their tea! A well written book with good strong storyline and strong characters. Don't wait til Christmas to get stuck in to this-read it now!
What a lovely book. I loved it from the beginning to the end.
I loved the storyline, the characters and the writing style. The pace of the story was perfect. A great read
A multi-layered story set amongst not only the magic of Christmas but also the run up to a Christmas Eve-Eve wedding.
We join a group of close friends who met at university 13 years ago and have been brought together for Fliss’s wedding on December 23rd. Ten years ago the group spent a holiday together on Mistletoe Island celebrating their graduation, so Fliss invites them all back to stay together again in her family’s cottage in the week leading up to her wedding.
Through the story we discover the thoughts, experiences and feelings of individual group members, each having built a role for themselves within the group and it appears they have kept to those roles for the past decade. However, no one can be exactly the same at 31 as they were at 21, and the friends are no different - especially as we discover some have encountered challenges and difficulties in their relationships and others have felt trapped in their roles within the group. Over the course of the preparations for the wedding relationships, friendships and hearts are tested, reunited, healed or broken when the group discovers that you cannot move into the future with one foot stuck in the past.
A really enjoyable read, I felt involved with the characters and the complexities of the lives & relationships with each other and it kept me interested throughout.
I loved the bond of friendship that this book described. Christmas is all about family and friends and having people near you when crisis nears, so I really enjoyed the story that ran through this book. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll let you read it for yourself. But I will say that you will want to spend Christmas on a remote Scottish island!
