I enjoyed this book but I felt that the time travelling element was a but unrealistic.
I liked the characters and felt they were well developed.
I am not usually a fan of romantic novels but I liked this one

This is a romance, which is not really my kind of thing, but I wanted to read something Christmassy and I was intrigued by the time travelling element. I enjoyed the story, and it did keep me picking the book up to carry on reading, which is always a good sign, but the time travelling element didn't totally convince me, and I didn't think the first person narrative was the best choice for telling the story. What I did enjoy though was the historical details, and if you are willing to suspend your disbelief the story progresses quite nicely and comes to a satisfying conclusion.

This book was good though I will say it lost some of its momentum towards the end. I enjoyed the characters, but the love triangle was smothered what felt like far too quickly and easily when we finally had everyone all together. All in all it was a fun read I just felt it could have been even more. I wished there had been more details and plot reveals in the end instead of the drawn out beginning and short end we received.

Christmas once again
2.5 ⭐️
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to go back to a special Christmas time in your past and do things differently? The thought just puts a smile on my face!

I loved the idea of this but I felt the story lagging at times. I thought it could be much better, but I did enjoy it and I love Christmas things.

This was a Netgalley book and I’ve given an honest review.

This is a sweet wartime romance that centers around a pair of childhood sweethearts during World War II. Kate and Jeff are involved in a secret romance due to his mother's disapproval. When he is declared dead in Europe, Kate is shattered and moves away to New York. In December 1955 she's returning home for the holidays when she time travels back to 1943 shortly before Jeff ships out. Has she been given a second chance? Can she save Jeff and change the future? Or will her interference have unexpected consequences?

The novel did a good job portraying the uncertainty of the times. While Kate's love for Jeff is her driving force, you see her anxiety over her knowledge of the future and how it will play out for the people around her. The author makes you feel Kate's determination, her desperation, to save Jeff. Jeff is a strong man who sacrifices to do what he feels is right. I especially enjoyed the theme of undying love in the story. If you are interested in a romance with a historical backdrop and a touch of time travel, check out Christmas Once Again!

Historical romance with a timeslip element is one of my favourite genre combinations, especially when there is a forbidden romance and a festive setting. Set mainly in 1943, it follows Kate’s story, as she falls in love, only to have her heartbroken when her true love is killed in WW2. Christmas is a painful reminder of all she’s lost, and she’s never felt able to return home until circumstances conspire in 1955, and make it a mercy mission she can’t ignore.

Full of mystery, poignancy and classic romance, the story is easy to read. I couldn’t put it down, I wanted to know what really happened, and if there was a chance for Kate to be truly happy. Kate is a complex, independent woman, like so many women who lost their partners in the war. Despite her strength, much of her emotional pain is hidden, and this has prevented her from moving on with her life. Her life stopped in 1943, perhaps now she can find the answers she seeks, and live, rather than going through the motions.

The historical detail brings the story to life. Written with vivid imagery, it unfolds in your mind like a movie. A lovely escape to a different time and place, full of heartbreaking romance and intriguing mystery and Kate’s chance to live another life, but should she?

I received a copy of this book from Boldwood Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Christmas Once Again by Jina Bacarr
Boldwood Books 2019 ASIN: B07V1QT9Z6

Once in a while you come across a book that makes you believe that impossible and wonderful things can happen, and that restores your hope in the power of love. A book like Christmas Once Again, by Jina Bacarr.

Childhood sweethearts Kate Arden and Jeffrey Rushbrooke pledge to love each other for always and to marry when they grow up. But Jeff’s family is rich and Kate is a mere employee at the family’s mill in Posey Creek. What’s more, Jeff’s mother will never allow Kate to marry into her family and Kate’s not sure how far the woman will go to prevent their union.

Kate and Jeff decide to elope during the magical Christmas season, but it’s 1943 and a new challenge presents itself, World War II. Jeff gets called up for duty so the couple vows to wed upon his return.

Fast-forward to 1955. Kate is a single woman and working as a food editor in New York City. She never saw Jeff again and she hasn’t gone back to Posey Creek in years. Now, it’s Christmas time again and her sister Lucy begs her to come home. Kate gives in deciding that it’s time she let go of the past, and Jeff.

On the train ride back to Posey Creek, Kate reads a special delivery letter she had stuffed in her bag. The writer reveals information about Jeff’s wartime activities and the name of the spy who betrayed him. The discovery sets Kate’s heart racing. She would give anything to go back in time to warn Jeff about the traitor and give him a fighting chance to survive.

Whether it was some kind of magic in the letter, the wonder of Christmas, or the power of her love for Jeff, somehow when the Kate’s train arrives in Posey Creek it’s 1943 all over again. Kate is determined to risk it all to save the man she loves. But what happens when you know the future and tamper with the past?

Christmas Once Again unfolds during the holiday season, but the story is about so much more. It’s about family and hope. Above all, it’s about the power that makes all things possible when you love with all your heart.

Good, fun, light reading. I really enjoyed this book. Set in the early part of WWII, a young woman wants to marry the local hunk, but she misses her chance when he goes off to become part of the French resistance. Or does he??? No spoilers, but there's a really interesting twist in this story about ten percent into the book. I did not see it coming! Not great literature, but I couldn't put it down.

Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a historical fiction set in WWII that was also a time travel novel. The time travel part caught me off guard as I didn't realize this novel had that element in it. It was ok. The main character tried to use the opportunity to do things better the second time all while trying to keep the man she loves from dying. Overall it was an ok read for me. I think i was just expecting something different more than anything.
