An intriguing premise, but I couldn’t get behind the characters. Re-tried to get into it a few times with no luck. Although the writing style is very good, so I’d try this author again

The novel started truly well. The plot was something new to me and I was curious about its outcome. Thursday was a strong character enjoyable to follow through the pages. The book is very fast-paced and I enjoyed reading it until around 3/4. Then it became a bit dull due to the predictable plot and I found myself skipping pages. I feel like the obvious thriller ‘twist’ wasn’t a good choice for this story as it had much bigger potential. Regarding all of that if you need something for a lazy winter afternoon - this book should work perfectly for you.

Wow. This book was like a maze. Just when you think you’re going the right way it changes direction. I wasn’t sure who was the protagonist or who was the antagonist. All deliberate in a very clever story that’s meant to confuse the reader. I did enjoy it and I wanted to keep reading until I reached the end but I did find it a little difficult to follow at times.

This is a great vacation read - funny enough that it doesn't weigh you down and still intense and gripping enough that you will want to get to the end of it. I especially enjoyed how each of the three main protagonists were fleshed out - layered, interesting and realistic. I would definitely recommend it.

The Wives was a huge disappointment for me,i just couldn't get into the story line at all and having read the praise for this book i was very surprised. It just seemed to drag on and on with no meaningful agenda and i did struggle to finish it but i did and i have to say the book didn't get any better as it progressed, having read some other reviews i may be in the minority with my review but sorry this book was just not for me,a 2 star read at best.

This is a juicy, fast paced thriller which really messes with your head. Compulsively readable. At first you think Thursday is a little bit crazy to be completely accepting of this weird as heck relationship... and then as you read more... you continue to think she’s crazy to be accepting of this weird as heck relationship. Like no shade to anyone in a polyamorous relationship but this is NOT the way to do it, oh boy.

Meet Thursday. Three years ago, she met Seth. Two years ago, she married him. But Seth already has a wife. And soon after his second marriage, he will gain a third. For Seth is a polygamist. Yet even stranger than that is the fact that Seth’s wives have never met, and know nothing about each other except which days are theirs to spend with their husband. But Thursday is beginning to have questions about the mysterious wives known only as Monday and Tuesday, and her investigations soon set her on a dark path towards answers more shocking than she could have imagined. How far will she go to find the truth?
As soon as I get the synopsis for this one, I knew I had to read it. I will admit to being a tiny bit obsessed with those programs like sister wives, that give you an insight into the mysterious world of polygamy. An even bigger draw for me was the fact that this was polygamy with a twist - rather than living in harmony as one family unit, these wives instead were strangers. I was instantly intrigued by the idea, and imagining how it would affect issues such as jealousy and feelings of isolation.
These issues definitely play a part in this book, but without saying too much, it’s definitely more of a thriller than a drama. There are so many twists and turns along the way, and what begins simply as an unusual premise quickly turns into one of the most unpredictable thrillers I’ve read in a long while. And beyond that, I can’t say, as I’m simply terrified of spoilers!
However, while the beginning is strong and well written and very intriguing, it does slightly lose its way a bit as it went along. And the ending just felt a bit too ridiculous. There was a lot of back and forth in the last few chapters about someone, and the last reveal to me felt a little cheap - there was a big information dump to account for how this reveal could be the case, but it just felt a bit too easy to me.
All in all - strong potential, very unique idea, but sadly lost its way in the second half, culminating in an unsatisfactory ending that led to more than a few eye rolls!
Disclaimer - I was lucky enough to receive an advance reading copy from NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own

This book had a very strange premise. I felt that Thursday was very naive to marry someone for just 2 days a week. As the book went on I got more into it as a psychological thriller.

TW: violence, miscarriage, mental health issues
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Stories for sending me an eARC of The Wives. All views and opinions discussed here are my own.
I was really enjoying this book for the first half and was really gripped by the story; imagining the second half was going to be much of the same with all three women coming together to take Seth down... what I got was nothing like that and nothing like i'd hoped. It was almost like the second half of the book was written by a different person who hadn't read the first half. The tone of the book changes so abruptly it is so jarring. The book just completely went downhill for me from 50% and it was like the author wanted to throw in so many twists and turns to keep you getting, that the actual book got lost and the twists were no longer surprising.
I found the ending to be so incredibly disappointing; finding out that literally everything that happened was in Thursday's head is such a bad and harmful resolution. We find out that Thursday had a miscarriage the past year and that her and Seth were never actually married, she was his mistress twice and couldn't let go, and this caused her to go on a psychotic violent rampage but not only that she created insane delusions that she was in some polygamous marriage. I was just so annoyed that mental health was used in this way; it is so harmful and I hate that this is used so often as a trope in books. The whole book essentially turns out to be her delusions, and whilst an unreliable narrator can be interesting, this was just a contrived and bad plot point. And those last few lines just added fuel to the fire.
I also very strongly felt that miscarriages were used for shock value in this book and again that is so harmful. Seth was clearly a character who had a lot of issues and at the very least was emotionally abusive and manipulative to his partners, but it's never addressed.
There are quite a lot of plot holes left unanswered and I would really have loved this book to be more about the women and them banding together, but instead we get a character who is so obsessed with a shit man that she unravels all over the pages.
This was just such a contrived plot and I am fed up of it. Fed up of women being made out to be completely hysterical and unable to control their emotions. Fed up of mental health being used as a bad plot device. I honestly can't recommend this one.
ALSO - I need to clarify, Thursday's name is actually Thursday right??? Because I was utterly convinced it was and now i'm confused.

OMG!!! WOW!!! Tarryn Fisher this book was BRILLIANT!!!! I will absolutely be looking for more of your books.
I was taken in by the blurb, and it did not disappoint. I was hooked. So many times I thought I'd figured out what was going on and then... Plot twist!!!!
Thursday is married to seth. Not your typical marriage, he has 2 other wives. The 3 wives don't know each other. Thursday finds a clue to one of the wives and can't resist looking for more information. She tracks her down, she has bruises, where did the bruises come from? She finds his other wife. Things aren't quite as they seem. What's going on, who has she married?
Absolutely recommend this book. 100%. Best book I've read in a while!!! Thank you netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have never read anything by this author before but will definitely be looking out for more of her books now. I really enjoyed this book and all the twists in it. Kept me hooked from start to finish. Very enjoyable

Tarryn Fisher is an author that I love.
I couldn't resist requesting to read The Wives, especially after reading the blurb.
However, the book I got, was not the one I was expecting and that's by no means a bad thing.
This is Tarryn's best book yet.
Explosive and devious, this is not your typical romance, well not really a romance at all.
Thursday is a woman who shares her husband with two other woman, a polygamist but not in the traditional sense. You see the wives don't know each other, each one leads a separate life with the same man but when details of one of the other women slips into Thursday's hands she's left with a dilemma.
Forget what she saw, or snoop for more details.
Choosing the latter what transpires is something that I couldn't have imagined.
So many twists and turns, the plot twists are weaved expertly in and have the whole novel changing direction from one chapter to the next.
I was utterly addicted to this book, literally could not put it down.
And that end.
OMFG.
The Wives is a must read novel. Filled with thrills and spills and love that can send you crazy. Assume nothing.

My first book from Tarryn Fisher. It's fast-paced and hooks you in from the get go, great elements of book. Which is why I am so confused as to why I can't process my thoughts on this one.
I was fully hooked until 70% of the book and then It took me a while to finish the end and it just left me dazzed. Don't get me wrong maybe this is a sign of a cracking book and the break from it was mainly due to me not having enough time to read but I am finding it hard to describe.
Another point I wasn't too keen on was that the Wives were named by days of the week. There was Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Although Thursday was actually her name, through me a little bit got to say but this was no doubt intentional.
Like i say though, very gripping book in the first instance for me and i really want to know what other people think about it so i can compare! Different reactions are by far my favourite part of being a book fan!
Thanks to netgalley for approving me to read this!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC copy. It was fab!!
Thursday loves her husband Seth deeply. The problem is Seth has two other wives, Monday and Tuesday. Thursday has always been happy with this arrangement but lately things have changed. Is Seth really the man she married or is paranoia and heartbreak affecting her judgement as her mind slowly begins to unravel? Is Thursday really mentally unstable or are there more secrets and lies that are to come to the surface?
I really can't say much more about this as I don't want to give away some of the fantastic twists. It was an excellent read and such a long time that a book and a writer has had me guessing and second guessing to the end. The backwards and forwards about who to trust and who to believe is so well written as it draws you in completely.
Highly recommended 5 stars

Well I didn’t expect that to happen!! Great book with a short, abrupt but good and appropriate ending. I say appropriate because I should have known it wouldn’t have a classic ending bearing in mind all the twists and turns throughout! Highly recommend if you like a book with intrigue and suspense, with no real answers till the very end! Who doesn’t! Easy vocabulary, modern references and interesting characters. If you have time you’ll devour this in one hit!

The blurb for this book intrigued me;
Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. She agreed to this unusual arrangement because she’s so crazy about him.
But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different—and horrifying—story about the man she married.
Sounds great doesn't it? However when I started reading it I didn't like it much. The characters didn't grab me at all but the plot still intrigued me and slowly it drew me in until I had to find out more, I had to know the truth.
However, as the truth begain to reveal itself, the book lost me again. Far too convoluted, twists for the sake of them, characters I still didn't care about. Overall not for me.
But I'm still giving it 4* because the writing, as ever with this author, was very good. I know that there will be readers who will devour this and love it. Don't let me put you off

I really enjoyed this rollercoaster of a ride!
"You've never met the other wives. None of you know each other, you see your husband only one day a week. Thursday. But you don't care, you love him that much"
This begins as a straight forward love triangle, with one wife jealous of the other two she cannot meet, but, wow! It soon moves into stranger territory. I don't want to give anything away, so, if you enjoy a fast paced read that maintains interest and momentum, this is for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very grateful for the opportunity to preview. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Harper Collins UK.
Solid 4*

I was not expecting this book to end the way it did, it is such a thrilling read, full of twists and turns, I could not put it down.
Thursday is in a polygamist marriage, she seems happy, until she starts feeling jealous and starts to investigate the other wives.
I feel like I can’t say much more than this without giving away some major spoilers, but I highly recommend it if you want a breathtaking read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and to HQ for letting me review this book.

A book full of lots of twists and turns, it took me a while to get into but once i was into it i found it an enjoyable read.

One of my top psychological thrillers to date! Loved the constant keeping me on my toes twisted turns in this one. My skin was actually crawling at times. Totally gripped me from the start and very hard to put down, this one doesn’t stop delivering right to the very last page!! Why have I never read anything by this superb authoress before is beyond me! 5 humongous gold stars!
