I was intrigued by the title and description of this book and knew it would be worth a read. A woman shares her husband with two other woman and wants to find out more about them. Twisty and turney, well written and enjoyable
This book was not quite what I was expecting and I didn't really enjoy it. I won't give too many details about the plot for this book as I don't want to give any spoilers so I will just share what I knew before starting this book. The book follows a character who shares her husband with two other women and decides to find out more about these women that are part of her husband's life.
The plot did not go in the direction that I thought it was going to go. Although the first portion of the book moved quite slowly I was invested in the story. I felt that there was so much potential for the story and I was looking forward to seeing what direction the story would take. I was not expecting the direction that it did take and I didn't like this direction. The story got very confusing and felt that there was so much going on that didn't make sense.
Overall this book was not for me. I feel that the synopsis is misleading and I didn't get the book that I was expecting and the plot became confusing and unbelievable.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have to admit I found this book disappointing, it did not live up to my expectations. The first half was good, but then the rest of the book went downhill. Sorry, not for me.
Uncomfortably readable page Turner, you cant help wanting to know how it ends, great summer lockdown read.
The Wives is a thriller that's hard to put down. Thursday loves her husband, Seth, but she’s not the only one, there’s Monday and Tuesday (Seth’s other two wives). Every week, Thursday gets a couple days with Seth, but the remainder of the week he’s in Portland with his other two wives. The wives she didn't used to know the names of.
In Seth’s pocket, she stumbles upon a receipt from the doctor’s. The patient’s name is Hannah who she thinks must be one of Seth’s other wives. This leads her to become obsessed over Monday and Tuesday. Who are they? And what are they like? What she discovers shocks her and she starts to question how well she knows the man she married.
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is full of twists and is a great thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and Tarryn Fisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very enjoyable book, which i was engrossed in from beginning to end. The premise was a very different one and I was making assumptions all the way along which kept on being proved wrong- I do love it when a book proves me wrong. I really did not see the "twist" coming at all, it really took me by surprise. This book was full of obsession, love, betrayal, heartbreak, loss. I would very much recommend this book
Wow, I don't even know what to say about this book. It was an absolute muddle, but in the best way possible. Had me gripped from the start, full of twists and turns and utterly gripping. Fantastic!
I couldnt explain this book if I tried, for all the right reasons.
Thursday is in a marriage with a man who has two other 'wives'. Shes never really questioned the arrangement, or the fact that she knows only that the other women are Monday and Tuesday, As you learn more about Thursday you really emphatise with her, and about halfway through the book everything changes, Seth is an enigma. We only understand him through her eyes, until Mondy nd Tuesday give some insight. This is a brilliant twisty book with completly unexpected end.
The Wives ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
What did I read?! This book was insane. Absolutely fantastic. My mind is muddled. In the best way.
A thriller like no other. It was gripping, compulsive and page turning.
I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved everything about this book.
So cleverly done. Thursday was fantastic. Her character was absolutely brilliant. My heart felt for her. Imagining what you would do in her situation. You couldn't help but hope for her.
One of my top reads of the year. Thank you HQ Stories!
This is an intriguing story told by Thursday about her ‘husband’ Seth and his other wives, Monday and Tuesday.
Gripping right from the start, with unexpected turns.
I absolutely loved reading this book, couldn’t put it down!!
Highly recommend.
This is one of those sensational novels that are hard to put down, but also have you wondering why you’re still reading. You have to wonder what’s going through Thursday’s mind as she agrees to marry Seth, knowing he has other wives, The other conditions asked me to suspend my disbelief a bit too far. Thursday also has to agree to never make any connections with them, and not to even know their names. I found myself wondering what sort of crazy woman would accept the polygamy in the first place, but I have far too much natural curiosity and can’t believe that any woman would happily forget other wives exist. There would have to be some serious compensations! Once you get past this premise and go with it there is some fun to be had.
Between these characters, I found myself wondering which one, if any of them, was telling the truth! The first wife, Regina, claims that she and Seth are divorced and she never sees him. The second wife Hannah, believes that Seth has deep seated psychological issues thanks to his difficult upbringing. She is also pregnant. Seth seems like a normal, reasonable man (if you put aside the polygamy) and could even be the victim of these crazy women. Maybe Thursday is the problem? I understood her eventual curiosity, but I doubted her sanity for agreeing to such a ridiculous arrangement in the first place. It unfolded slowly at first, then the pace picked up for the final quarter. I won’t ruin the ending, but it wasn’t the one I expected or felt happy about.
Off The Wall Domestic Suspense....
When wife, Thursday, becomes intrigued by the other wives of her polygamist husband things go badly awry. Off the wall domestic suspense which is strangely compelling. Plenty of lies, secrets, misdeeds and paranoia here. Well written and entertaining.
This was an incredibly fast-paced entanglement of a thriller, following Thursday, one of the wives of polyamorous Seth.
I read through this in one sitting, I had no idea where the storyline was going or who to trust! There is rightfully HUGE buzz around this book.
Word of warning: once you pick this book up you won't be able to put it down.
This books seemed to give me like a very mild 50 shades feel to it.
I really liked the main character Thursday, as we know her and I felt a really big connection to her. I had a very similar situation once where I was kind of sharing my partner with someone (completely different and weird situation) I lasted 1 year and was out. My heart honestly felt for this character. I couldn’t imagine being that in love that I could act in the same way.
This book was well written, I am mostly a thriller, fast paced on the edge of the sear kind of girl This books was by no means either of those but definitely kept me drawn In.
You’ve never met the other wives. None of you know each other, you only see him one day a week...Thursday. But you don’t care, you love him so much. That’s what you’ve told yourself.
Then one day, it all changes...
Wow where do I start with this absolute whirlwind! I had heard such good things about this book, I had seen it everywhere. Thank you @netgalley for a copy of this beauty! This book does not disappoint, you got through the emotions of how you would feel sharing your husband, being second or third best and what would you do if you really loved him. I really felt for Thursday, then the cracks begin. She sees things that seem suspicious so she starts to delve further. This is an absolute must read, so gripping and really gets you sucked in.
Never read this author before but I will read her books again . This was a really good read I would recommend to everyone .
I enjoyed this book, had quite a few twists and turns which kept you guessing right to the end. Nice easy read.
I thought the story was interesting up to about the halfway point and then the plot went in a completely different direction but equally as good.
There are some very unlikely scenarios but on the whole I was caught up in lives of the wives throughout the whole book. It was a quick read and ideal for an easy distraction.
I lost my reading mojo during the Coronavirus lockdown. Not completely, but work, other hobbies etc., have just been 'calling to me' more. However, all that changed when I picked up this enthralling and compulsive psychological thriller which I was up half the night reading as I just couldn't put it down. I love Tarryn Fisher books as you can guarantee that they're going to be warped and twisted and play with your mind, and with this book, she's done it once again. Another corker.
Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ARC for which I have given my voluntary and unbiased review.
Provocative, perplexing, and unorthodox.
Seth has three wives - they are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Even though Thursday doesn't know the others, she believes herself to be comfortable with this arrangement as she plays the dutiful housewife, cooking Seth's meals at their home in Seattle. The other two wives, Monday and Tuesday, are based in Portland, a place that Thursday has never visited until the day she finds a note in her husband's pocket with a woman's name on it. This arouses her curiosity and she goes in search of the mystery woman, Monday, also named Hannah, and then turns her attention to the third Wife, Tuesday...
Gosh, was a fabulous and remarkable story! It certainly had me ruminating about what I might do if I was just one of three wives and I was presented with an opportunity to snoop around the other women's lives. I realised that Thursday was an unreliable narrator because of her willingness to believe everything was hunky-dory. As the tale took a much darker turn, I found that this novel wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be. Shocking or maybe shamelessly manipulative (I am not sure which), The Wives was certainly a fun, dark and twisted read. Tarryn Fisher cunningly played things up with the menacing and horrifying behaviour. Her writing was clear and concise and every word was masterfully used to advance the story, expand on the characters, or highlight a salient plot point. I was satisfied with the conclusion and awed by it's unpredictability. I could not put The Wives down once I had started reading. It is terrifying, it is brilliant, and it is a solid 5-star release from Tarryn Fisher. She is a new author to me and I cannot wait to read another book by her.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
