I love books like these for kids. It is an engaging picture book with gorgeous illustrations, but with a message for positive action. Greta and the Giants lets kids know that it only takes one person to start a movement, to make a difference. I love that they included information about Greta Thunberg and her fight to end climate change at the end of the book. It gives kids the hope and confidence that if another kid could make some kind of change, that they can too. I also love that a portion of the sale of each book will go to help fight climate change via 350.org, yet another great lesson for kids in giving back. Well done!
It is hard to argue as an adult against the impetus to make a difference, that motivated the real world Greta. However, I am always concerned when political or religious tenants infiltrate children's books anf the overarching cause is seen to justify the dogmatic approach that forces children grow up too quickly.
I was therefore hesitant to embrace this book for children inspired by Greta Thunberg who took a stand to advocate for her planet and apeak out against the danger of uncontrolled global warming / climate change. My distrust and concerns were misplaced.
This is a wonderful story told in an allegorical tale about being brave to challenge others who are so busy doing they often forget the consequences of their actions. Greta and her friends hold up placards that as the 'giants' to stop and listen.
The political dimension is not hidden; the simple parable type story is linked to more formal protest and points to getting more involved and what actions can and should be taken.
The future of the world and its resources are for our children to inherit and enjoy. Any book that promotes conversation and encourages reading around this subject is to be supported and applauded for its stand.
Gettting back to the actual story; it is magically developed and told with simple charm, coupled with exquisite illustrations it is a wonderful vehicle to carry this more serious message.
It does not simplify the task at hand, but it does enable a spirit to share values and find better solutions to how the story of our threatened world will end.
Much has been said about Greta and climate change, and this is undoubtedly a book that makes known to children in a light and simplified way what has been going on.
Highly recommend!
This is a beautiful book with a charming story that will inspire young readers to question how we care for the planet. It’s illustrations are stunning and certainly a perfect book to built a child’s confidence in reading out loud.
Like much of the world I have been captivated by Greta Thunberg and her gift for making people listen and helping the youth to stand up to the giants of the world. This book tells her story in such a beautiful way and in a way that is easy to understand for children. Though I do have a hope that the giants in the real world start to turn things around the same way that the giants in this book do.....
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book completely and utterly melted my heart.
The story is about a little girl called Greta who is asked by the animals to help them save their forest as the giants are killing it and cutting it down.
This book is such a heart melting tale about the effects of global warming today in ean easy to understand and follow child format that really touched me and my child.
I would love a paper copy of this book as it is amazing.
The artwork is fantastic and relates so well to the story in perspective of the giants being big companies.
A fantastic read I urge every parent to read to their child and teacher to read to their class. We all need to do our bit to change our world for the better.
The cutest book about climate change!! I did not know that they were basing the story off of Greta Thunberg. The book had the cutest (and realest) message. Also, great illustrations. Every child and adult should read this book about the "broken" forest. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Oh my goodness what a wonderful book for young people! The illustrations are beautiful and the writing is simple enough for my 8-year-old to understand but doesn't leave out anything important. What I love most is that it tells the story of Greta and the Giants with a happy ending, but then tells the real-life story of Greta and what she has done and is currently doing. It also lists ways to help fight against climate change with practical ways that children can do. It's a perfect book for classrooms and libraries also! I will definitely purchase one for my child's class.
Greta loves the forest and is a friend of the animals. One day, her furry friends come to tell her they're afraid, because the giants are killing the forest.
This picture book is inspired by Greta Thunberg and the fridays for future movement. Of course, we have a finished tale with a happy-end to make it appealing as a story, and of course everything is simplyfied. Because this does not set out to do a detailed retelling of real events.
But what it does set out to do it does well. The pictures are vibrant and detailled and very beautiful to look at. There is a clear distinction between Greta, her friends and then the giants on the other side, but without demonizing the latter. They're just people who happen to be giants, and they're so busy they don't realise what they do. But they're able to learn if someone is willing to teach them. You only have to try.
It's encouraging and while this doesn't represent my own grasp of the situation, it's the kind of tale I'd like tiny humans to grow up with.
Well done.

This book is a gem. Greta Thunberg is an activist that many children would admire, and I love that this book is based off of her. This would be a fantastic resource to share with children on activism. One person can truly make a difference and lead to change. This is such an important message for people to hear.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this text.
Really cute book! I knew before reading the end who this book was about and its great! I especially loved the ending note too!
Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker is a picture book that tells an allegorical tale of a world in crisis, inspired by teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. The story is presented in such a way that even the youngest of children will intuit that this is a call to change. No matter how small or insignificant we might believe ourselves to be, we all have the capacity and the voice to affect change. The book is superbly illustrated, and the evolution of the giants, from shadowy and highly imposing figures into friendly and approachable, albeit still large, entities is truly inspired. Also included are suggestions for immediate change that can be undertaken by even the youngest of aspiring activists.
This is a timely, entertaining, and educational book that I am anxious to share and discuss with the children in my life.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Childrens for this ARC.
I love this! The basic story had been told before but with the addition of Greta it’s relevant and timely. Well done to the publishers for moving quickly on this. It’s not the first, and it won’t be the last Greta inspired book, but it’s beautifully told and illustrated. We all need this!
I recieved this book a few minutes ago and read it straight away. My stepson lectures on climate change, so this is a topic we discuss a lot here. I have 3 young children, and will read this book too them.
The story is great and I love the illustrations. I can see this book sparking a lot of conversations in this house with my children and I may enlist the help of their big brother to really discuss this. The message that even one child can make a difference is very powerful.
Inspired by Greta Thunberg, this is a story about a little girl who stands up for the animals whose homes are being destroyed by giants. It starts out just being her alone taking a stand but she is soon joined by others and their voices become louder and louder until they are able to make the giants understand the consequences of their actions. Beautifully illustrated and cleverly told in a way that helps children of all ages understand the importance of taking a stand for what you believe in, no matter how small you are.
Thank you to #NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for allowing me to read an advance copy of this story in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker is a very timely book on climate change for young children, inspired by Greta Thunberg. The book is also very cute with lovely illustrations and and a nice age appropriate way to make young children aware of climate issues.
This is the story of Greta Thunberg adapted for younger readers with analogies that would help them understand the Strike for Climate movement.
Being a story for children, it has a happy ending. But as the author points out at the end of the book, the fight in the real world is far from over.
The illustrations in the book are just so adorable and gorgeous! 💗
Coincidentally, this is the second book I read this weekend where the author and the illustrator have the same first name!
Excellent story about Greta Thunberg and her commitment to bringing forward the serious issue of climate change. The illustrations are lovely. I would definitely buy this book for my school library. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I loved this book about Greta who wants to protect the world from giants (who are actually humans in general).
What I Loved: The illustrations were perfect. The giants looked so large while everything else was so small. The way the animals were drawn, was just beautiful. The wolf on one page, just looked amazing. I was very pleased with the art throughout the book, and my daughter appreciated it too. She had a lot of questions on each page because there was so much to look at.
How I Felt: So, I don't read the synopsis on books...a LOT. I like to be pulled in by the cover art and the title. I grabbed this one because the cover stood out to me and the title seemed really interesting. So, as we start reading this book, I know it's about a girl named Greta and some giants because the title told me so. Then, as the story unfolds, the Giants are building industrial buildings and driving cars and it smacked me in the face. This book is about humans and their destruction of Earth! The book took on a whole new meaning for me. My daughter seemed to have the same realization as me, and then she was asking more questions, which was wonderful.
To Read or Not To Read: This is a wonderful book for ANY child. This book should be read in schools everywhere. It's a great Earth Day book and even has information in the back on Earth Day and on Greta Thunberg.
What's This Book About Anyway?
Greta lives in a forest with many animal friends. One day they come to her very upset. The giants are ruining their forest. They are worse than they have been in the past. Greta sees their destruction and knows she must do something to make a change. She stands at the edge of the forest with a sign that has "STOP" written on it. Soon a child joins her, and then another, and another, until the whole forest is there with her.
Can they get the giant's attention and stop them from ruining their forest? You'll have to pick this book up to find out!
