I have taken so long to read this as I have gone back and forth a number of times and have given up, due to the style of writing I just couldn’t get into it.
I have now managed to read it all.. I found this book very slow and not much happened until halfway through. I did enjoy the last half though with the twist and turns, along with the good ending. The characters were enjoyable, the plot was great but unfortunately the style of writing just wasn’t for me. I would recommend this to anyone that doesn’t mind the way it’s written.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
I was really torn whether to give this three stars or four stars, and I gave it four and then I made it three and then I gave it four again and then I changed it to three. I think the reason I left it at three is because I really wanted to like the main character at the end of the book and I just didn’t. I struggled a little bit with the fact that the book was set in the UK; for some reason I struggle with British novels. I started off liking Patrick’s wife, Louisa, but the more I learned about her unless I liked her. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t tell you why I didn’t like her, and it wasn’t the obvious… And Becca, I wanted to like her too, she was a strong determined woman looking to solve a mystery, a crime, and yet she went a step too far, and that made me not like her at the end of the story. I guess I just never feel fully invested unless I’d like the main characters.
This book starts off with a slow pace, that doesn't really keep the reader's attention. But then it picked up pace, and takes you on a roller coaster ride until the end. Book was an enjoyable read, and worth the time.
Riddled with errors and without much to redeem itself, especially the less-than-shocking-I-thought-we'd-established-that-already conclusion. That said, she gets a whole extra star for making the cop inept.
Absolutely brilliant, great twist at the end too. Really looking forward to reading more from the author in the future based on this.
In a normal world and a normal marriage, a person would feel like their life is over when their spouse dies. Even more when is an accident. This was very different for Louise. She has it all. Two beautiful children, Patrick her husband and a life she worked hard for. When she found out Patrick was killed, she didn’t act “normal”. She didn’t even cry. Deep down she hated her life and the person she became. The real question is: Is Louise capable of murdering her husband?
The Perfect Widow by A.M. Castle is a compelling book right from the first few pages. The book kept my attention and was written with good pacing and lots of twists and turns. Recommend and thanks to Netgalley for an advance copy.
This was a very good book tgat kept me interested in what would happen next. It started off a little slow but was an intriguing story with fascinating characters.
Clear out some time because you will not get anything done while absorbed in this book. You will be thinking about this long after you are done! Highly recommend.
This is one of those books where I loved the premise but it just wasn’t executed as well as I had hoped. I just couldn’t get into it enough to love it like I usually do with these type genre books. I typically finish a book in 1-2 days and this one took me longer. Thanks to Netgalley for an advance read on this!
Thank you HQ Digital and NetGalley
This received so much hype I was really looking forward to reading this but it didn't live up to expectations for me. I think I expected more than the book gave and was excited by the plot but it was boring.
This book is told over dual timelines. This is a slow burn but it is very compelling.
The writing is good and the characters are well developed.
Well written, interesting story, good characters, well developed storyline, story told at a good pace.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing access to this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
In this novel, Louise and Patrick are a married couple with 2 children. One day the police show up at their home to share some devastating news, which it seems that the family were expecting.
This story unfolds and is told by alternating pov's - Louise and Becca, the police officer on the case. Becca believes there is more to this story than meets the eye, and is determined to uncover the truth of what truly did happen that fateful day. Even though this family seems perfect on the outside, Becca believes deep in her bones that something is just not right, and uses her spare time to try to uncover the mystery.
Parts of the story are also told in the past as well, and it gives us some insight into what Louise's life was like when she was a young child living with her mother and the events that happened to make her the woman that she is today. I enjoyed reading about Louise's past and what her life was like when she was younger and everything she had gone through. It added to her character development and gave the reader a sense of what makes her tick and why she is the way that she is today.
Overall an interesting read that proves that even the seemingly perfect families are not necessarily all that perfect afterall.
This book received a lot of hype and it seemed to be right up my alley, but in the end it fell flat for me. I did not feel like I got invested in the storyline or the characters. I may have built it up too much in my mind to be excited by the plot.
A curious mix of psychological suspense and family drama, this story will appeal to those who like psychological orientated suspense.
Louise is not your typical grieving widow. This thriller follows her story as she meets the man who becomes her husband to his untimely death. Learn all about Louise’s past and her husband’s secrets as a lowly beat cop investigates the freak accident that left Louise a widow with two children. Fast paced and enthralling!
The Perfect Widow synopsis had me hooked and I was so excited to get my hands on an ADR in exchange for an honest review (Thanks NetGalley!) The story is told from two points of view - Louise (in both the past, where she and the present) who's husband has died and Becca, who delivered the news about Louise husbands death - and when her reaction was rather unusual for a woman who has just been told her husband is dead, decides to investigate the death further.
I dislike Becca's character and her obsessive ramblings about Louise and her desire to bring her down because she is just too perfect! Louise's character wasn't much more likable and I found her difficult to relate to which made the book easy to put down.
I did like the almost diary style short chapters although found the book very repetitive at times, the ending was good and wrapped up the story nicely, not much intensity for a "psychological thriller" but a good domestic life thriller
A solid read but not one I'm rushing out to reccommend unfortunately.
