I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers take, between Stevie and Bishop. Stevie is awesomely quirky and Bishop excels at being a grumpy jerk. Between flinging insults at each other, we get to see who these characters really are below their tough exteriors.
Helena is fantastic at writing hilarious rom-coms, and this one was no exception. Between an overprotective older bother, a jealous ex, misunderstandings, daily underwear competitions, and a groin injury this book has it all.
'"I want to be the olive to your pineapple." I smooth my thumb along the the of her jaw, and she tips her head back: and unconscious reaction, I'm sure, but it says everything words can't. for so many reason we probably shouldn't fit together, but we do.'
I have read a lot of Helena's books and I have to say she is most st her element in this hockey world we've all come to love. Set in the Pucked extended universe, this book introduces us to Bishop, a hockey player with a grumpy streak a mile wide with a penchant for funny underpants and Stevie, RJ's sister for the first book in this series. Although we start this book thinking Bishop is a judgmental prick, we soon realize there's more than meets the eye with Mr. Grumpy Underpants.
I am not going to lie, the enemies to lovers trope is my catnip and this book hit all my sweet spots. A hilarious, sexy read that I couldn't put down. I am looking forward to more hunky hockey players...yum!
Enemies to lovers is not a trope I usually go for in romance because I really don't enjoy it and the heroine is mostly just acts meek against the H when he's acting like a total A-hole. But not, Stevie! Girl got bite and through right back at Bishop.
Helena just knows how to write amazing scenes between characters and make you feel for them also. You're either crying, laughing, or both. I also appreciated that this more of all slow burn and we got to see them connect with each other.
Now I'm just excited for King's book and who he ends up with.
5 Stars for this dirty talking hockey player!
Bishop is a hockey player on a new NHL team and in the first pre-season game gets a bad groin injury. Bishop's teammate's sister Stevie is his new neighbour and she's also a physical therapist. They reach an favor for a favor agreement that Stevie will help Bishop with extra PT so he can get back on the ice sooner and she'll get to put an NHL player on her resume. Oh yeah, and if it happens to help get back at her cheating ex ... all the better! But will Bishop be able to keep his hands off Stevie ... while her hands are ALL over him?
I just loved these two! Bishop just didn't care AT ALL what he said or did ... for craps sake, he walked around in his underwear most of the time. And then Stevie just wanted get through life on her own merits ... not her brothers. They started out with this snarky relationship that became a slow burn of sexual tension. The banter in this book is exceptional and their barbs towards one another made me laugh out loud. I didn't read the first book in the series ... and i don't really need to because Ms. Hunting does a seamless job of giving the background of the characters ... but I really want to read the first book and the next one! Then there's the steamy scenes ... HOT HOT HOT!
I received an early copy courtesy of Montlake Romance through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
A Favor for a Favor is the second novel in the All In standalone series. The sequel follows RJ's (from A Lie for a Lie) sister, Stevie, and a new player, Bishop, on the new expansion NHL team in Seattle. Stevie and Bishop do not have the perfect meet cute, instead personalities clash making for an interesting dynamic between the two.
Stevie and Bishop have instant chemistry. Their banter is witty and hilarious. It's the type of comedy that isn't over the top or childish. If you didn't enjoy the comedy in Pucked by Helena Hunting, you'll certainly enjoy it here. Their tension is palpable as they try to outmatch and outwit each other.
Stevie is a spitfire main character and one of the reasons I enjoyed A Favor for a Favor so much. She's not afraid to speak her mind and is not an inexperienced virgin. She's brash yet likeable making her the perfect foil to Bishops' broodiness.
Overall, A Favor for a Favor is a great sports romance that will make you laugh out loud and swoon all within the same chapter. I am very much looking forward to the next novel, A Secret for a Secret. Hunting can always be relied upon for a romance with characters with personality and tension that is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
After her last two releases having a more serious tone, I'm so happy that we're getting another hilarious rom-com from Helena Hunting! This one is a slow burn that's totally worth the payoff. (The steam is +fire emoji*) I loved Stevie and Bishop so much and their banter was incredible. Stevie is this fierce, independent heroine and Bishop is the perfect grumpy hero who is only soft for the heroine because she's his person. The only downside was that I don't really like Rook in this book and it's hard for me to reconcile his various appearances into one character, but I still can't recommend this book enough. (Side note: When will Seattle be playing Chicago? Can we get that in a book? Helena, make it happen.) We also got introduced to the straight-laced hero of A Secret for A Secret, Kingston, in this one and I am so excited for his book!
Thanks to Montlake Romance and Netgalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Audio: I haven't listened, but Jacob Morgan narrates so you know it's fire
3.5 to 4 stars
Stevie Bowman is RJ/Rook's little sister from A Lie for a Lie. She is moving to Seattle for a new PT job, her boyfriend, and to be near her brother and his new family, but her previously set up plans take a dive when she gets there. But fortunately, her brother has his vacant apartment she can stay in.
Rook's teammate and new nemesis, Bishop Winslow, is her across the hall neighbor. They do not get off to the best start, and they find themselves playing some little games for a bit. But when he gets injured and needs some extra PT, it seems to be a win-win for both of him. She gets professional experience and he gets back on the ice faster.
Their arrangement is full of some antagonism and sexual tension, but they also start to develop an odd friendship. Slow burn torture, forbidden elements, and growing feelings start to make things a bit messy.
Stevie has always lived in her brother's shadow and does not like it when his spotlight shines on her. Bishop will more than likely eventually garner that same kind of attention. Bishop has been used in the past by girls wanting to ride his fame. And Rook is one hundred percent an older brother who does not approve of any shenanigans. Not to mention the professional aspect of being a therapist and client.
So there are plenty of reasons to say NO. But as they trade favors and time, things just keep heating up.
This is a slow-burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, sports romance. It brings back Rook/RJ who I loved in the first book, but from Bishop and Stevie's point of view, he can kind of be overbearing, overprotective, and bossy. I really liked the beginning, but it got a bit repetitive for me in the middle. And the big conflict and some things related were a bit frustrating. But by the end, I was liking it again. I really liked their goody-goody teammate, Ryan Kingston and am glad he will be the subject of the next book.

WHAT A DELICIOUS SLOW BURN!!
This book starts you off with a real McGrumpypants hockey dude who meets Stevie, his new neighbor, while only wearing his underwear! Stevie has just gotten out of a shit relationship and is moving into her brothers empty apartment. When Bishop & Stevie start having their pants off morning meetings to try and get under each others skin, I was losing it!! Helena Hunting writes some of the best rom com banter out there. So freaking funny.
Stevie is a physical therapist working with college athletes, when Bishop gets a nasty groin injury during his NHL game. Stevie & Bishop work out a deal for her to assist in his rehabilitation and he will give her a recommendation. The build up that ensues is one of the reasons I LOVE slow burns. There is palpable anticipation and chemistry between these two! Especially with Stevie ordering him to take epsom salt baths and massaging his leg the whole time!
This book features some great Violet cameos, she is too funny! I can't wait for this one to release on audio too with the number 1 romance narrator: Jacob Morgan.
I loved this book, I enjoyed it even more than Book one. Stevie is the baby sister of RJ (from book one) and moves for a new job but finds her ex in less than pleasant manner on her birthday. I loved Stevie and how she gave it back to RJ and Bishop during the whole book and got to have her girlfriends at work support and push her.
I loved getting to know all the side characters and how a couple more become part of the series. I really also enjoy the coach's wife who is back from the first book and is LOL the whole time.
Thanks to Netgalley, Montlake Romance, and Helena Hunting for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 Stars!
Laugh Out Loud, funny! I literally highlighted pages of text. This book is hilarious and the premise was perfect!
The story opens with Rook's younger sister, Stevie, (whom we met in Lie for a Lie) moving into his apartment after she found her fiancé having sex with another woman ON HER BIRTHDAY! She's clumsy and on the verge of hysteria, what could go wrong that day did, including awaking her new, surly neighbor, Bishop.
❝She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment.❞
She appeared to be doing a terrible job sneaking into his married team captain's apartment. He assumed Stevie was Rook's side piece, which made him hate Rook even more.
Because of his misconception (and his personality), he's crazy rude and disrespectful to her, a royal jerk - which provided so much hilarity to the story, because he's also crazy attracted to her. She hates that she's attracted to him because of how he treats her. But his body is delicious, and he has a ridiculous supply of crazy boxer briefs that he loves to share with her.
❝A set of flags crosses over the pen pouch with the words FINISH LINE right over his junk. It's physically impossible not to look at his crotch. I force my eyes up, dragging slowly over his ridiculously cut abs on the way to his annoyingly attractive face❞
About the same time he gets a groin injury, Bishop discovers Stevie is Rook's sister, and she's working as a sports trainer at the university. Bishop needs to get back on the ice as soon as possible if he's to gel with his teammates and not get traded. Stevie could use the addition to her resume' of working with an NHL player. It's the perfect no-strings-attached arrangement.
The problem is, every time she touches him, he becomes aroused. His reactions are hilariously funny!
I'm sweating, I'm angry, and I hate my dick.
❝I need you to stop touching me!❞ It's stupid because I'm still holding on to her, not the other way around.
❝Why are you yelling at me?❞ she shouts back.
❝Because you're half-undressed in my tub, and I'm a guy, and apparently my dick is a fucking sadist. It honestly feels like my balls are on fire right now. A semi has literally never been this painful.❞
❝Well, close your damn eyes and think about dead things.❞
❝It doesn't matter if I close them. The image of you in panties is burned into the back of my lids, probably for the rest of my fucking life. It's all I see.❞
❝You'd think you'd never seen a set of bare legs before.❞ She helps me lower myself into the tub and steps out.
❝It's been a long time since I've seen a pair up close,❞ I grumble.
❝Such a surprise, with your warm, fuzzy personality.❞
If you’re looking for a fast-paced, slow burn, enemies to lovers romance, with a broody hero and a sharp-tongued heroine, curl up with A Favor for a Favor!
New neighbors
Stalkers
Acquaintances
Business partners (sort of)
Friends
Lovers
That is the journey Stevie Bowman and Bishop Winslow take in this second installment of the All In series. As this is an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story, expect a slow burn.
This couple meets on one of Stevie's worst days. Airport delays, lost luggage, and discovering a cheating boyfriend, make it a day she can't wait for it to end. Cap it off with an obnoxious neighbor, Bishop, and I genuinely felt bad for the girl. Did I mention it was her birthday?
These two neighbors are far from civil past their initially introduction, but for some reason, they begin to play a little game with one another, that involves limited clothing. For Bishop, the man has an extensive collection of humorous boxer shorts, which isn't shy about showing off. Stevie decides to match him, wearing skimpier and skimpier attire for the meet ups each morning. With time, their hostility diminishes, but it isn't until Bishop is injured that they get to know one another.
As Stevie is a physiotherapist, she sees Bishop's injury as an opportunity, and they two agree for a favor exchange (hence the title).
Bishop is a hard guy to warm up to, with his cranky attitude. However, as he and Stevie get to know each other, we learn he has a soft heart, taking care of his brother and being overly protective of Stevie. As for Stevie, I could understand her struggle in wanted to build her own career without always relying on her brother, RJ Bowman (featured in book one). But given that RJ is actually teammates with Bishop, and the two hate each other, getting away from her brother isn't as easy as it seems.
With dual POVs, we learn of the growing attraction between them. But between the two, I felt like Bishop tried harder to prove his interest in her, so when things go wrong and the two are under the microscope, I was frustrated that she doubted his motives. I didn't feel like Bishop was the one that had to apologize, he did what everyone asked him to do. That said, I loved how he threw down the gauntlet and went after what he wanted.
This was great addition to the series, and if you enjoy enemies-to-lovers romances, it is worth checking out.
Once again Helena Hunting brings us another totally hilarious and fun filled RomCom that is based around the world of ice hockey players in the NHL, The story focuses on an injured player that lives in an apartment that is opposite to the normally empty one of a team mate he doesn't get along with, throw into the mix the sister of that team mate when she moves into her brothers apartment. Sparks begin to fly between them even though they start off with a mutual dislike of each other, neither of them cannot deny the attraction they have for each other when Stevie starts helping him with extra Physiotherapy to get him back on the ice faster. This book literally had me in stitches, It was just so funny and such a wonderful read. The writing was so good and I absolutely loved the banter and romance that developed between the characters. This is another winner from this amazingly talented author.
Book 2 in the All In Series and what can I say about a book that captivated me, that I didn’t want to end apart from its a MUST READ...... Helena Hunting is one of my go to authors I love her style of writing , I love her characters and this book is no different I fell big time for Stevie and Bishop.
This book ticked all my boxes, I laughed at the witty banter, I sighed and swooned at the sizzling chemistry and the story drew me in and left me wanting more.
Bishop has just joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team and just when he thinks life is perfect it all goes to pot when he gets injured and the only person who wants to help him with his rehab is his teammates stunning sister Stevie. Will this couple keep it professional......
A swoon worthy hero and a sassy heroine help make this a great read but it’s the banter and humour as well as the chemistry that turn it into an amazing story. I highly recommend you one clicking this entertaining must read for the start of the New Year.
A Favor for a Favor is wonderful! Stevie and Bishop are perfect. These were two characters who are charming and quirky in just the right way. And Bishop- oh if only he were real. Their banter is hilarious, and the relationship develops at the right speed. The side characters are well-developed. This book moves right into my top 5 for the year!
I have been dying to read this book since it landed on my kindle, and after a bunch of heavy books, I knew it was the perfect time to pick it up. And once I did I couldn't put it down! As a die-hard Helena Hunting fan, I've become used to her quirky humor & amazing characters, and she definitely gave us both with A Favor for a Favor.
I want to be the olive to your pineapple.
I can't even begin to explain how much I loved Stevie & Bishop! They were such amazing, strong characters with amazing chemistry and playful banter. I don't know what I loved more - their relationship before or after they started working together. Their dynamic was so much fun, and my only complaint is that I want even more of them!
This book was definitely a breath of fresh air. It's a fun and easy read that kept me glued to the page and hysterically laughing. I loved absolutely everything about it (ok, maybe not the pizza toppings!) and never wanted it to end. The storyline is perfectly paced, with just the right amount of drama, and of course, Helena Hunting's secret ingredient - Violet.
If you're looking for a fun read to keep you smiling and your heart full this is definitely it!
I really enjoyed reading this slow burn, sexy, rom-com. I especially loved the snarky humor between Stevie and Bishop. And the sexual tension between these 2 was so tangible, I was a wreck. Bishop was adorable as a grumpy, anti-social but soft hearted hockey player. I loved Stevie’s sass but found her continued fear of the limelight a bit over the top. Thankfully, she comes to her senses. If you are a sports romance fan, this is a must read.
I loved this book. The chemistry, the banter, the slow burn and wait. Oh my gosh! So amazing!!!! If you want some fun romance this is a must read!!
A Favor for a Favor is a Hockey slow-burn romance story. After a flight delay, lost luggage, torn and missing a wheel on the suitcase that did make the flight, Stevie Bowman rolls in at midnight after catching her cheating ass boyfriend in the act, in the apartment they were supposed to begin their life together, and on her birthday no less. She calls her big brother, RJ, needing a place to stay and he gives her the penthouse apartment where she meets his cranky ass neighbor in boxers. Winslow Bishop is the forward for Seattle’s NHL expansion team, RJ Bowman is the team captain, a position Bishop wanted, the rivalry continues on and off the ice. During the first exhibition game, Bishop takes a hit, a cheap shot and is injured badly, a groin injury that is going to ice him for at least six weeks. The truth starts to unravel and misconceptions become apparent with this slow-burning romance.
I love the way Helene Hunting writes, the way she paints a very graphic picture, one that you can see in your mind’s eye while the story unfolds before your eyes. Helene doesn’t hold back by addressing everyday issues like diabetes or other important issues.
This book is the second in the All In series and I have to say It was absolutely amazing!
There was sarcasm, witty banter, so much sizzling tension and a storyline that will captivate you!Stevie really was a breath of fresh air! I want to be her friend! Her sass, snark and all around emotions just tugged at my heart! When she meets Bishop when she tries to enter her new apartment, well lets just say you are in for a bumpy ride!
I can see why Bishop is the way he is and his tendencies to be a bit of a brut to those he meets, does come across a bit harsh! Can Stevie get under his skin and vice versa when she helps him with his rehab??
I absolutely loved this book so much! I loved the characters, the way they were and how they open up to each other was just beautiful! When do they realize how they feel?
A definite entertaining storyline that will grab your attention and I cannot wait for more of this series!!
5 star Review A Favor For A Favor (All In #2) by Helena Hunting
A Favor For A Favor ticked all the boxes for me as Stevie and Bishop’s story unfolded. Having read quite a few books by Helena Hunting, I love her writing style and I found it easy to relate to Stevie and Bishop.
From the first miss communication and miss understanding, there was something that seemed to sizzle between Bishop and Stevie. When Stevie offers to help Bishop with his rehab after his injury, you just know that complications are headed their way.
The chemistry between Bishop and Stevie was intense, almost electrifying. I fell hard and fast for Bishop and I loved how sassy and feisty Stevie was as she stood her ground with Bishop. To me they made a great couple as Ms. Hunting gave us a story that had me falling head over heels for them both individually and as a couple.
From start to finish Helena Hunting wove together a story that I could not put down, she had me totally engrossed from the first to the last chapter. This was an entertaining, at times humorous story which I loved.
I received an copy of this book through the publisher via Netgalley
