Friends with Benefits is written by Margot Radcliffe and published by M&B Dare, so romance with added extra spice! Set in the casinos of Las Vegas Alexa runs a casino, enjoys one night stands and gambling. Her best friend, Carter made his fortune through designing security devices for casinos. Alexaasjs Carter to be her fake fiancé which resulted in taking their marriage vows whilst drunk! World the marriage cost them their friendship and chance of a HEA.

I found this book rather forced. The characters weren’t particularly likeable as they seemed obsessed with money and didn’t progress beyond that.

Friends to lovers trope romance with the added spice of the #Dare series. Set in Las Vegas, the setting didn't endear itself, neither did the gambling references. Similarly, the characters are hard to like because of their preoccupation with money, and one night stands. Alexa, runs a casino and enjoys gambling and playing the romantic field, serially. Carter, her longtime best friend, is a technical genius, but again has made serious money by providing security devices for casinos and other organisations.

The chemistry between them is what makes this story readable. I like friends to lovers romances, but the fake engagement isn't believable because it goes against both of the character's independent, don't care what anybody else thinks characteristics.

The romance is hot and sensual, but awkward in parts, maybe to illustrate the difficulties the characters had with their new relationship?

The ending is happy.

I'm so behind with updating my reviews and this is the only one that is slightly rusty!

I think my issue was that didn't really like the characters, Alexa just... I just couldn't? I really wanted to enjoy this a lot more than I did which is a shame, but I'm sure other people would really enjoy this. I think I have to like the character and if I don't in these kinds of books I just can't connect with it as much as what I'd of liked to.

Storyline was OK, but characters... Just couldn't connect with them. They were driving me crazy and annoying me more further the book progressed.

An enjoyable read abou an easy friendship that became a sizzling encounter. The sex scenes were ok but the book could have perhaps benefitted without them as it seemed they were another box that had to be ticked when writing a novel! The book helped to pass away a boring weekend!

Carter and Alexa have been best friends for years but when Alexa asks Carter to be her fake fiance the lines of friendship start to be blurred. Over time Alexa starts to realise that Carter is more than just a friend but is she brave enough to reveal her true feelings and will they be able to remain friends when all the lines start to dissapear? I enjoyed this book, however some of the sex scenes and language felt out of place with the characters at times, although this didn't impact on overall enjoyment.

This is a very adult novel due to the explicit sex scenes, which felt forced to me. It was as though the author had to insert them but they didn’t really fit the storyline
Overall the storyline and writing style was OK but somehow lacked a real spark or empathy for the characters.

Best Friends Carter and Alexa are at the heart of this story, these are two characters who have some sizzling chemistry that sits right below the surface ready to explode. This book in two words is sizzling sexy, the story behind the chemistry is good but the main attraction is the chemistry. When you come across the Dare portions of this book, they are super hot. It’s almost like you shouldn’t be reading it in public. The characters and story is simply amazing. The chemistry is out of this world. Definitely one to read if you love the Dare series.

Wow!!!
So enjoyed this cleverly written, amusing in places, sexily, erotic story of long yearned for and unconditional love of best friends.

Realigning long held emotional feelings, to embrace newly admitted ones, bringing them into the open, to a fully committed, lifelong loving relationship.

Of course a fake engagement, an accidental marriage, some smart manoeuvring in business and the bedroom, sets the scene to move this hot romance forward into the full relationship they both want, but hadn't acted upon until now.

With a happy ever after ending in this erotic, sexy romantic story.

Friends with Benefits

Sorry but I found Alexa to be a total pain. I guess she was meant to be the female version of a playboy: but I found her unappealing. She seemed self absorbed and still living a lifestyle which was dated and uninteresting. As for running casinos in Las Vegas, - is that meant to be glamorous?

I like the Dare series - and have read some cracking stories by other writers, but I was really disappointed with this one. The characters never came alive for me and I could not believe that Carter had been in love with Alexa for all these years, watching as she indulged in oodles of casual sex, and being happy just to be her best friend, whilst he similarly played around.

I’ve nothing against casual sex, but most people grow out of it. Her attitude was adolescent. I just didn’t buy that the big trauma in her life had affected her the way it was depicted. It did not feel authentic. I did not understand the love for casinos and worst of all - the sex was strangely stilted and mechanical.

I really love well-written erotic love scenes, but somehow nothing in this book worked for me. It was full of description and instruction without the frisson of a truly erotic encounter.

The fake-finance and then the real but drunken marriage, were well done and I liked how that was developed but I never really came to terms with Alexa. She seemed to me to be a selfish, thoughtless and utterly self-centred character. Any vulnerability came too late for me.

Her reaction to him buying the casino was so over the top as to be ridiculous and I hated that he had to do the grovelling. Disappointing for me personally, 2.5 stars.

Alexa and Carter have been friends for years. Now they both need more than friendship from each other, but will the secrets they are keeping ruin everything before it even begins?

A great read.
