I really enjoyed this book which had the vibe of an 80s teen road movie about it. There's little in the market like this in terms of a pre/early teen comedy adventure that is not gross nor 'whacky' and I'm excited about recommending it to my young teen readers.
From an 11 yo: This is a book about a teenage boy who wins a competition to be in a Marvel movie. However, he lives in England so he must take a long flight to America. He misses his connecting flight and has to take a Greyhound to LA. On the bus, he meets a girl. She has a precious box and a secret and she is hunted by a cowboy. After agreeing to help her, they are now both on the run...
I found this book funny and exciting. I understood the character's emotions and actions, they were tridimensional with an interesting arch. I enjoyed the exhilarating pace of the plot and I really felt the lows (and the highs) of the story. I think this perfect for MG and would happily re-read this.
This book sadly wasn’t for me. I can see how some might find it humorous but it just didn’t appeal to me.
Tom Mitchell just gets kids. This second title proves that he can just write for them. Humour, adventure, not taking things too seriously, just perfect for those teens that give up on reading as they get through secondary school. We love recommending How to Rob a Bank and this will instantly join it as something to get that elusive creature, the early teen boy, reading and more importantly, enjoying it!
