This book is about a man's mental health. I must say I have not come across many books on this subject matter. This book is unusual in that it tackles the subject of mental and physical health from a man’s perspective. The ending was like "wow". The ending was spectacular. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

"This book tackles hard issues such as depression, dysfunctional families and degenerative diseases in an honest, life-affirming and often humorous way. It focuses particularly on the challenges of being male in today’s world and explores how our silence on these big issues can help push men to the brink."

Maybe I was expecting too much from this book after all the hype, but I was disappointed and got a bit bored with the story. Found the characters hard to connect to and like and find a connection with. On the other hand, the author has dealt with some current difficult subjects, which was a refreshing change from the usual family drama story, but not for me.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I enjoyed this story very much and felt like I knew each character personally due to the description of them. I enjoyed the storyline. This is not my usual genre but in this instance I am extremely pleased and grateful for opening up my mind to something totally different. Thanks again.

#survivngme #jojohnson #netgalley #arc it took me a minute to get in to this book. I just wasn't "feeling" it... But the more I read, the longer I read I could NOT put it down. I became invested in these characters and their lives. I felt like I was a fly on the wall just watching it all. I highly recommend reading this book. It's about real life. Real issues. Life gets overwhelming for all of us and these characters show us different paths we take. Choices we make or don't. The voices in our head that at times doesn't shut up. And most importantly. That ending will slap you right across the face. I definitely didn't see that coming. I cried with these characters. I fell in love with them. I didn't want this one to end. This book is amazing and has definitely left me with a #bookhangover
Don't be a fool and wait so long like I did to read it.

A great read. It’s not all sad there are some light parts.
Well written, plot flows well.
Thank you to both NetGalley and publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book

This book was really worth reading, dealt with many current themes especially from the male perspective. My only criticism was the characters in the cafe and how it did skim over heavy subjects and made it light hearted. Didn’t want it to verge into chick lit. But apart from that I do recommend it.

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.

Many thanks to Unbound and Netgalley for this book. What an unexpectedly wonderful, moving, uplifting, heartwarming and generally fantastic read. I had no real idea of what to expect but absolutely loved everything about this book - the profound, wide-ranging and thought-provoking subject matter (depression, redundancy, fertility issues, unplanned pregnancy, attempted suicide, chronic / inherited diseases to name just a few), the characters who I felt represented the whole spectrum of humanity, and the writing which was just beautiful. Jo Johnson is a brilliant writer and I will be recommending this book to everyone including my book group!

Tom and Siri are trying for a baby when Tom unexpectedly loses his job. He keeps up the pretense of work for months but it gets too much for him and he becomes suicidal. It's a lot more uplifting than it sounds and the characters are written in a way that you start to care about them very quickly. It's funny and heartwarming and was a quick and delightful read. One of the best I've read this year!
