I loved this book! CJ Tudor is always so fantastic with the pacing, I did not want to put this down and each chapter left me wanting more. The characters were well formed and I really enjoyed the building of tension and mystery.

Creepy and dark, thrilling and addictive, three stories converge to create one amazing tale. C J Tudor steps up her game yet again. Amazing.

I found this a really intriguing mystery with lots of creepy parts and parts where I suspected everyone. I felt sorry for both Gabe and Fran, and liked how the different parts of the book all came together. I would read something else by the same author!

I really enjoy books with multiple storyline that eventually meet, so this book was right up my street. We have Gabe who is convinced he saw his daughter in a stranger's car and is alive but missing, there is Fran and her daughter Alice who appear to be on the run from someone and then finally, the girl in the white room who sleeps. I loved finding out how these storylines were connected and finally merged together.

The plot of the book was intriguing too, a different look at the concept of hitmen and the dark web, where no cash is exchanged but instead you owe a favour, something I've not read before.

I enjoyed the writing, which flowed through the book, guiding me to read at such a fast pace. There were a few inconsistencies, but I don't feel that these diminished my overall enjoyment.

A pretty good book by all accounts which has made me eager to read more of C. J. Tudor's work.

Thank you to @netgalley for the advanced copy of the book, although it has taken me a while to review!

The beginning of this book is fantastic – such an exciting and interesting premise. What a clever idea for a novel.

It’s gripping, dramatic, exciting, with plenty of twists and some characters to get behind too. I so wanted Gabe to find Izzy, or at least find out what happened to her – his grief, his guilt, his longing for her are palpable; he’s so well-written.

I really loved Katie too – at last, a realistic portrayal of single motherhood, the boring, badly paid job, rushing here and there to pick up the kids, she felt very real and, like Gabe, was so likeable.

Living far from family, we spend a lot of time on the M4 and a lot of time in service stations, and the idea of Gabe driving from services to services is compelling. Motorway services are odd places, and the author’s descriptions are spot on. Standing in the queue for a coffee, I often wonder where everyone has come from and where everyone is going – this book opens up a whole new set of possibilities!

A clever, entertaining, and gripping read.

Another deliciously dark and creepy read from one of my favourite horror authors! CJ Tudor continues to reinvent the horror genre with fresh, inventive ideas and scary set pieces.

What an excellent book. It was creepy and dark.
The writing is very good and the author managed to build the tension so well.
The only negative comment would be about the supernatural element to the story which I didn’t like

Think book definitely kept me hooked and I did enjoy reading it. However, there were a few plot holes and I didn’t realise that there were supernatural elements to the book which probably would’ve put me off reading. Having said that, it did enjoy it and it’s certainly opened up my mind to trying more supernatural books.

In interviews, Tudor has said that the starting point for The Other People was the image of an old car with stickers on the side and a young girl in the back. This image was clearly very vivid for Tudor, as she managed to recreate it in great detail and use it as the starting point for a brilliant novel that had me captivated and intrigued from the very first page. Tudor's writing is absolutely amazing and I love that she captures every thought and emotion so well that you feel like you are living amongst the characters in just a few words. She combines the horror and psychological thriller genres really well and the result is a very atmospheric novel.

There are three different strands to the plot of The Other People and at first it was difficult to see how each part of the plot was connected. However, the novel is incredibly well thought out and the complexity of the plot only adds to the interest it held for me. The concept is very imaginative and I enjoyed finding out how everything would play out.

There were times when. I was reading when I felt that I had everything worked out, but I was often proved wrong and I loved the twists and turns along the way. I loved the open ended nature of the epilogue and felt that the ending left me with lots to think about.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

The time I needed to read this book doesn’t correspond to how enjoyable it was—I would normally have read it faster, only I made the mistake of starting it during a period where what I really wanted to read was non fiction. So, even though it took me one month to finish, I actually liked it (more than other novels by the same author, in fact).

The story’s premise rests on something a parent’s worst nightmare (or so I assume): seeing their child abducted or killed. One fateful evening, Gabe came back from work only to see his only daughter riding in a stranger’s car, then find out his wife and daughter were savagely murdered… but wasn’t the little girl in a car on the motorway? Since that day, Gabe has been travelling the roads in the hopes of finding information about his missing daughter—a daughter that everyone else sees as dead—aided only by a mysterious man who calls himself “the Samaritan”.

The novel has us follow different characters: Gabe himself, of course, but also Fran and Alice, a woman and her daughter who may or may not have strange powers, and Katie, who works as a waitress in a restaurant off the motorway. While their trajectories appear independent at first, they gradually start to tangle and make sense, for all of them are, in fact, involved in what is unfurling here. This goes on at a pace that I found just right for me—not too quick, not too slow, with just enough information to make me imagine what was going on, without allowing me to guess the ending.

Overall, the story here is dark and creepy, often raising so many questions that one can’t help but wonder if all of them will get answers. And they don’t always—at the end of the novel, there were still a couple of things I couldn’t explain, even though overall there was an explanation to most of the ploy. This was partly annoying (I’m thinking of the ‘supernatural’ aspect here, to be more specific), but I found it didn’t detract from my enjoyment, or not as much as I thought it would, so that still makes it 3.5 stars for me.

Based on a false premise

Gabe is driving home to his wife, Jenny, and daughter, Izzy when he gets stuck in a motorway traffic jam. Unbelievably, a face appears in the rear seat of the rust heap in front, and he is convinced it is that of his daughter. Gabe chases the car but loses it, and when he phones home, a detective answers and his life is changed forever. He then spends years patrolling the motorways and their service stations searching for his daughter.

Slowly Gabe gets to learn that there is a group called The Other People who will right a wrong and in fact carry out any request. The downside is that once the request is fulfilled the person who asks for it then owes the group a favour. Make no mistake about it; that favour will be called in at some stage.

However, the whole plot is based on the false premise that no-one will go to the police or refuse to carry out murderous acts when called upon. Additionally, there are so many coincidences running though the storyline that it spoiled the whole reading experience as I was forever questioning “why this” and “why that”?. I am quite prepared to stretch my credulity but stretch it too far, and it snaps. I can’t go into detail in this review as an understanding of the plot is required, and that will mean spoilers.

I also have to mention the supernatural element, which, in my opinion, was unnecessary to a good story. In short, I had to struggle to finish the book primarily as the idea of making requests in return for a favour in the future is not original.

It gets 3 stars only because I found myself caring about what happened to Gabe, but it was a very frustrating read which in my opinion did not live up to the hype of the publisher’s blurb.

what a great twisty tale!

This is the second book I have read from this author and she is brilliant at lulling you into a false sense of security, making you think you know where its going but then turning it on its head!

I sat through most of it with goosebumps on my arms and not many books bring out that response in me, will be reading more by this author.

Wowsa!! I enjoyed this book so much! I wanted to read slower to make this last longer but I just couldn't contain myself!
I liked C.J Tudor's first two books but this one is the cherry on the top. Very well written, very atmospheric and creepy as hell!
C.J Tudor is like red wine she just gets better and better. I cannot wait for the next book.

Thank you to Penguin Michael Joseph for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book had me on the edge of my seat! Had I been able to read in a single session, I most certainly would have done.

To make things more interesting, the novel is set on a stretch of motorway I am deeply familiar with.

The opening pages created an immense tension and intrigue. I could imagine myself seeing my own child in the rear window of a passing car, my own despair and confusion. There were several scenes containing a mild supernatural element, though this did fit nicely with the overall storyline. Strongly recommended!

The story is told by 3 people; Gabe (whose wife and daughter's bodies have been identified but Gabe swears that he saw his daughter in the back of a vehicle); Katie, a waitress in a Service Station and Fran, whose daughter Alice is unable to look into mirrors.

Throughout the book I was trying to guess what was happening, the connection between the characters and who the Other People were etc. Just when I thought I had a sussed another curve ball would appear.
