This was another cute insta-love, slow burn romance with an alpha Hero who is ready to pull all the stops for his mate and a heroine who’s been burned in the past and skittish to put herself out there for the alpha of her new pack. There’s warm chemistry between the MCs, cute family moments and some danger to spice things up.
It was well rounded and enjoyable, basically a comfy read. It wasn’t overly angsty or dramatized but instead taking it’s time to form a connection that was believable. I loved Malcolm, he was the trademark hero for KR with his sweet protectiveness and sexy confidence. His heroine, Leslie was also likable with her cute kid and friendly attitude. Her backstory was sad but she was resilient and I liked that she wasn’t stuck in the past.
Second chance romances aren’t my favorite trope but I enjoyed reading Leslie and Malcolm’s story. This author is always a go-to because I know I’ll get a short, safe and sexy read and this one delivered 100%.
Leslie has settled back into pack life. She may never forget the hell that her ex-husband put her through but she wants to move on. She has been ready for a while to dip her toe back into romance but sadly the only male who sparks her interest is Malcolm. But as her new Alpha he'd never step over the boundary between them in case she thought he was trying to make her his mate, just as her ex had done!
Malcom recognised Leslie early on as a potential mate but she was in no fit state, mentally, emotionally or physically. So he has tried to do lots of little things to insert himself into her life. I mean does she reallythink the Alpha will put down everything to come fix her leaky sink??? But now that she has declared her intent to go back to dating, Malcolm of going to do his best to get her to see what's right in front of her!
When danger comes calling and Leslie's child is put in danger, Malcolm will move heaven and earth to get the child back!
Great read. Novella length but read like a fully fledged book. Lots of action and romance and sweet moments.
If you’ve read any of my reviews, you’ve probably noticed that I don’t review a lot of shifter books. They just aren’t my thing. But I adore Katie Reus’ writing, and I like to support my favorite authors in any way(s) I can. So occasionally I will review books that I wouldn’t normally choose to read otherwise. And Chosen Mate by Katie Reus is a shifter novella. It’s part of her Crescent Moon series but absolutely can be read as a standalone (as it’s the only book in this series I think I’ve read).
Leslie has come to Malcolm’s pack to recover from an abusive relationship. Without her realizing it, he’s doing some old fashioned courting to win her over. When danger makes itself known, will he be able to keep her safe? Will she ever be able to give her heart and her trust away again?
NICUnurse’s Rating: Katie Reus is a great storyteller. She writes characters that are easy to connect with, and her stories have always entertained me. And despite the fact that this was out of my normal subgenre of romance to read, I was never bored or lost while reading this story. If you love shifter romance, be sure to pick this one up (and the rest of the series if you haven’t!), and be on the lookout for more great paranormal/shifter books from a very talented author. By the way, she also writes fabulous romantic suspense (my favorite!), so grab those if that’s your thing like it is mine!
I give Chosen Mate by Katie Reus 4 out of 5 stars!
3.5 stars
Chosen Mate is a sweet very short story in the Crescent Moon series. Leslie was a pregnant wolf shifter who suffered abuse at the hands of her mate. She now lives with the Kendrick pack where she and her son are safe and happy but she's now ready to move on and find love. Malcolm is the pack alpha and he and his wolf have wanted Leslie since the moment they set eyes on her. Since Leslie is ready to move on Malcom plans to be the one she does it with. Leslie and Malcom were really cute together. Leslie had no idea Malcom had eyes for her and I loved when she realized it. Overall this was another enjoyable story in this series.
I love this series! Malcolm has a ton of responsibility as Alpha. Leslie has much to overcome. They are so good when they come together! Malcolm is possessive and sweet. Leslie has had some huge obstacles to overcome. The story to their HEA is filled with a little suspense and drama.
This is another great story from the very talented Katie Reus I love both her paranormal and her romantic suspense books As always her books flow well and draw you in almost from the first page
Leslie suffered at the hands of a abusive mate and she has come to a new pack Malcolm is the alpha of this pack he is sheer dominant wolf and he knows that she is his mate but he will hold back and let her choose him as he would never want to force her. While this is only a shortish story it gives you everything you could want in a fated slow burn love story
I love this author but this is my first paranormal by her. How have I missed out this long? Strong characters and fascinating world building made this a series I want to read from the beginning. If your like me and starting out of order..no worries! The storytelling is so solid and you won't miss out by not reading the prior books. I can't wait to start reading the first book.
Another wonderful solid story by Ms. Reus. I loved the storyline and enjoyed the romance. Good overall writing.
A short but sweet (and hot) read, novella in length but although it’s part of a series could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone story. Another great Katie Reus book, I love the Kendrick pack and their relationships. Great fun and really flirty
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
A short hot read into the lives of the Kendrick pack showing that even though Malcolm was the alpha he was able to rein it all in for Leslie as she came to terms with her past
The ninth book in the Crescent Moon, Chosen Mate and is Malcolm and Leslie’s story. A novella length, I enjoyed the characters and the well delivered storyline. This is a great novella series and I recommend you grab them for your collection
Chosen Mate is the ninth book in the Crescent Moon series but it's the first one I've read. I enjoy paranormal and suspenseful romance and this was a winner. I didn't feel lost so I considered this a stand-alone book. Since I'm curious I will be going back to read the rest of the series. Leslie and Malcolm have tons of chemistry and the progression of their romance is both sweet and hot. However, it would be boring if there wasn't drama in the mix and Katie Reus provides plenty.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommend this book to everyone. Can't wat to read more from this author.
It was a fast read. Not sure because I haven't read the others in this series on how the layout is. The plot was fast and ended quickly . Was able to pick up on how it would end fairly quickly. I was a little disappointed by the fact that the heroine couldnt make a move initially. Fast read and Malcolm was likeable. I mean, what is there not to like!
I received this ARC from the publisher via Net Galley at my request for an exchange of my honest review. The opinions written are solely my own. Thank.you Net Galley!!
Chosen Mate (Crescent Moon Series Book 9) by Katie Reus......Another great addition to the Crescent Moon Series. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book. Leslie (abused by her mate ..now a single mother) Malcolm Kendrick(Pack Alpha ..wants Leslie for his mate) There is laughter, tears, angst, maybe even a little PTSD, danger and lots of love and family(pack) relationships and some great steam all to get us to a very HEA. I love this series and can't wait for more.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Happily Ever After Witty Romantic Wonderful characters Entertaining Action-packed Great world building Steamy Scary Easy-to-read Page-turner
Sweet!
Leslie and Malcom finally get their HEA in this fun, fast paced, sweet and sexy story.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
Chosen Mate
by Katie Reus
A sweet love story. This is a short story, depicting a she-wolf recovering from an abusive relationship. Leslie with her son Elijah along with her mother Luna, had escaped after the demise of her old pack, her mate and his family. Living life in a new pack run by Alpha Malcolm Kendrick, she begins to settle into life again.
Malcolm has waited for a long time for Leslie to come into her own again, so it’s time to step up his courtship. As he begins to spend more time with her, trouble have reached them. Malcolm now needs to step and protect his future mate.
I enjoyed this short read, it was well plotted with detailed characters. It’s also shows that a victim will not always be one and can overcome anything with love and support.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

These are fun little stories, and I definitely enjoyed this one. The romance was pure and heartfelt. I really adored Malcolm and how great he was with Leslie. The shifter aspect was not overdone, which I particularly like. A fun, quick, and sexy read.

Terrific little shifter romance
This story was really good for a novella. One thing I enjoyed about it was that despite being a shifter romance, it was very contemporary and true to life. Malcom is the Alpha of his pack and has feelings for Leslie, but doesn’t want to push her too much because she is getting over being mated to a possessive, jealous and abusive man. Instead of going into detail about the physical abuse, a window was opened to how men like this act and it was so eerily familiar. When Leslie thought back on or described some of his actions, it was like she was mated to my ex husband. 😳
”Before they’d mated, he’d been wonderful and sweet and nothing at all like the man who’d started hitting her, telling her that she didn’t need to work outside the home because she needed to take care of him. The man who’d been demanding of all her time and energy to the point where it had been easier to just quit her job than argue with him all the time.”
I’m not saying this for sympathy or anything, because my marriage was over quite a while ago, but just to say this is exactly how men like this act and think. It goes on later to describe other examples including the following.
“Her ex had been so critical of her anytime she’d gone to the salon, demanding to know who she was getting “all prettied up for”.”
My ex was the same way, if I was dieting he would ask who I’m trying to get thin for. It was like he wanted me to be fat or ugly so nobody else would be attracted to me and I couldn’t cheat on him. No matter the fact that I kept telling him if I wanted someone else I would leave him, not cheat on him. Leslie was mated to the exact same kind of man. It starts off as jealousy, moves to possessiveness, then on to controlling. When that isn’t enough they start in with violence.
I liked how it was so real and you could feel how trapped she was. Especially after going to her pack Alpha and having nothing done about it. So Malcolm and his pack rescued her and now he has been waiting for her to recover and until she is ready for a new relationship and is able to start trusting someone again. Once that happens he has to show her that not every man is the same.
There is also another plot twist, and no it isn’t her ex coming back after her. Him and his entire pack, including his family were brought to justice by other packs, including Malcom. Too bad that doesn’t happen more in real life! But apparently shifters can get away with murder a lot more easily than humans.🤭🤫
The romance was both sweet and steamy. I give it a heat index of 3 out of 5 flames 🔥🔥🔥. Quite a bit happened for a novella. Though it was a fast and easy read. I give it 4 stars overall.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
