Pretty Lively for a Dead Kid
Every character in this book is engaging, so you basically get a school daze comedy that happens to feature a zombie. It never even really falls for "zombie" conventions, (no one wants to eat brains), which is refreshing and allows for more interesting things to happen.
Our hero, Yan, is smart and funny and a decent guy; he mostly seems more bemused than anything else about his undeadness. The girl with a crush on him immediately rallies 'round when Yan reappears as a zombie. Ditto for Yan's best friend. Because everyone just goes with the zombie flow that frees us up to look at other plot developments. This is Volume 1 of a much longer work, so we only get hints at where it's going to go. It seems clear that two main themes will deal with Yan trying to fix his loving family, which seems to have fallen apart because of his death. It also looks like Yan may try to track down the mugger responsible for his demise. On the side there will be a lot of stuff about Yan trying to stay under the radar. And I have no idea where the romance is going to go.
The art is crisp and colorful, so it's easy on the eyes and fully complements the tone and action. There's nothing fancy going on, but just being clear and engaging was enough for me. Characters are expressive and convincingly drawn.
So, I liked the vibe here, the funny dialogue among friends, the pacing, and the whole laid back approach to the storytelling. This was a refreshing and fun find.

Dead and Unburied by Jocelyn Boisvert/Art by Pascal Colpron is an interesting and often funny graphic novel. A very good read.
Engaging and fun storyline. This immediately captured my attention and the artwork is exquisite. I cannot wait to read the next one in this series. Please bring the next one out quickly :)
