This is a fun take on A Christmas Carol set in the world of the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. It's a fun read at Christmas or any other time of the year. Recommended for fans of the series.
This is another great book in the series! It never gets old. I enjoy the main character, she is humble and fun. It's a pleasure reading any book in this series. This short story takes place at Christmas. Verity and Frankie are trying to save some 'real life' animals. Frankie shows a lot of heart in this story. A perfect Christmas story with hope and a reminder to everyone the importance of being nice to everyone. I highly recommend this book.
Verity is spending the holidays with her boyfriend's family. Finally, Verity gives Virginia a piece of her mind. Since she, can see ghosts, Verity helps an acquaintance and this helps her realize how important family is. This is a really fun series.
This novella, like many Christmas stories, borrows from A Christmas Carol. I have to say I'm tired of it, this is also the second book today (Hollyberry Homicide) that I've reviewed today that used it. It fits in well though especially with Verity actually being able to see ghosts.
It is a quick holiday read that confirms the most important thing about holidays is family. I also think this book is supposed to be an important transition piece for the series. It remains to be seen if that is the case. I hope so. I don't expect life in the real world or books to be all sun shine and roses, but Verity being a door mat was getting to me.

I started this book last year but put it down for awhile. When I picked it back up I was happy that I did. This book was a great read. I definitely recommend reading this book around the Christmas season to really get in your feels. This book is a part of a series that features Verity and her solving mysteries. I like that this was story where she has her own mystery to solve. Although I hadn't read any of the other stories in this series the author provided enough backstory for me to not feel out the loop. This was a great ghost Christmas mystery. I enjoyed this book a lot.
I loved this book! This series just gets better and better with each new book!! I found this Christmas themed book, to be quite entertaining, I loved getting to spend time with Verity and all the other characters, I so enjoyed Verity standing up to Verginia!!! I would highly recommend this book, and this series!!
Southern Ghost Hunter meets The Christmas Carol.
This book started off with Verity getting ready to go to the Wydell Christmas party. And of course due to Virginia Wydell, Verity decides to stay home. In comes Frankie and a visit from Donna (a ghost) who asks Verity for help rescuing a mama sow and her babies from an abandoned mill. Verity starts heading to the Mill to see what she can do to hep and this begins the story. Verity is visited by a variety of ghosts at the mill and makes her re-evaluate her thinking process and life. This book is ok. It is not as funny as the previous books in the Southern Ghost Hunter series. I did not like what Virginia did to Verity in the beginning of the book and Verity pays for it.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series when we get to know more of Frankie's story. Can't wait!
So another light read set in the Southern USA states where Iced Tea is drunk very sweet and there are lots of fried foods. And ghosts and mysteries it would seem too. And don’t forget your manners either!
Not the most challenging of stories but if you if you need something light and fun that might brighten your day if you are an animal lover then this would do it.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Author Collective 20 for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. this is part of a series and may be a bit confusing if you haven't read at least one. This is short and quick to read. Verify faces the challenge of her boyfriends mom (who dislikes Verity). I liked this although I think that Ellis should push back at his mom more in support of Verity, but family is tricky. 3 stars
I find I enjoy these stories more and more. Verity and her crew, both earthly and on the ghost plane have this a Christmas lesson we could all take to heart. Read this to find out exactly what happened.

Fox’s new installment to the Verity series is a pleasant Christmas story that doesn’t move her story further but feels like a special installment to celebrate the festive season like a special television episode of a loved series. Sweet but doesn’t really go too far into the depth of the characters and plot.
The plot is sweet and cute with Verity rescuing an animal in a perilous situation with her cubs and a ghost who needs to make peace with his family in an old mill. The story goes progress her relationship with Ellis and gives her some forward movement with her relationship with her possible future mother-in-law. The nods to Dickens story is a nice touch.
The characters feel less focused overall as this is supplement to the series of books. I haven’t read the previous books and this has probably put me at a disadvantage. Saying this, they are well written and Verity and Frank seem to have the most character building as we are expected to know the Wydell family probably from previous books. We do get a bit of a synopsis in the first few chapters but not enough to give the new reader much need depth.
Overall, this is a nice Christmas book for lovers of the series. If you are new to the series, this is probably not the book to start out with. It did make me interested to start the series which I have earmarked for the future. As a stand alone, it doesn’t really accomplish a fully satisfying read but as part of the series it would probably be a great installment to fill the time until the next exciting chapter is released. I will mark this as three and a half star because I am new but will raise this as a four star due to the fact, that if I was fully invested in the series, I would probably have loved this more.
This was a quick and easy read featuring two central themes - Christmas and ghosts.
I hadn’t realised this was part of a series when requesting and it made it quite confusing to understand the characters and their history. But it was enjoyable and I’d look out for the previous books.
Thanks for the advanced copy!
Angie Fox is at it again with The Ghost of Christmas Past. She does not disappoint.
Description
From New York Times bestselling author Angie Fox Southern girl Verity Long needs a Christmas miracle.
Verity is ready to deck the halls, jingle some bells, and maybe, just maybe have a merry Christmas with her boyfriend’s stuffy family. Truly, if she doesn’t extend the proverbial olive branch to the overbearing Wydells, she’s afraid she’ll hit them over the head with it. But when her boyfriend’s mother pulls a shocking stunt, Verity finds herself with a big decision to make. And if that’s not enough, there’s an unexpected guest at her door. It’s the ghost of the woman who helped rescue Verity’s pet skunk three years ago that very night. And now she’s there to change Verity’s life as well.
My Review:
Angie Fox has a talent to grab your attention from the very beginning. In The Ghost of Christmas Past Veirty is busy with her boyfriend when of course things turn interesting. There’s a ghost with an agenda.
This is an easy ride that will keep you interested until the very end.
Grab your copy today, you will not be disappointed.
Definitely give this a 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Christmas and ghost what more could you ask for. I found this book to be intriguing and captivating. I couldn’t put it down I was so drawn in I had to keep reading just to see how things worked out. The storyline was so amazing well written and enjoyable. The characters where so intriguing and engaging. Can’t wait to read what this author writes next
Typical of all Angie Fox's books.... it's written in an "easy read" style. Just because this book is an in between book it does diminish what I hope the author aims to achieve... a good solid book without thinking too much. Just a break from everyday reality. And a quick read due to the authors writing style. It's got comedy, love, endurance, a bit of action and lots of cuteness (that's Lucy the adorable skunk), hope and it definately touches the heart strings. I definately recommend this book for any reader who loves books for what they are supposed to be... can't wait to read about Frankie in the next instalment.
OMG, another great story with Verity , this one with a twist on A Christmas Carol with the 3 ghost ....of course ghosts are nothing new for Verity being a ghost hunter, but this had a different twist and is definitely a must read....thank you Angie keep this great series coming!
What a wonderful twist on Dickens “A Christmas Carol”, although I didn’t realize it at first. Verity has finally had it with Virginia, Elis’s Mother, and she lets her have it. Now she is alone at Christmas, or so she thinks. A visit from a former ghost friend sends her and Frankie on a mission to rescue a family of animals. When she gets to the old mill, she finds that the animals are a momma bear and her cubs. During the rescue, she runs into a problem with the past owner of the mill, who happens to be an ancestor of the Wydell family. Verity is visited by past ghost of the Wydell family to help her see how she is an important part in putting this family together again. This story also, gives us wonderful information on how Verity came to have Lucy in her life. This book would make a wonderful Hallmark channel Christmas movie. I loved it.
This entire series so far has made it to my top books of 2019 and this latest installment did not disappoint in the slightest! The Ghost of Christmas Past continues the story of Verity and her ghost friend Frankie however it does go down a slightly different route. Usually our main gal Verity ends up tasked with solving a crime / murder but this story saw her having to solve family issues within her boyfriend's family whilst also saving the lives of some wild animals. So whilst it wasn't as action packed and mysterious as the other books in the serious it was kinda nice to not see her thrown into mortal danger and the middle of a police case! Ha ha ha..
This super cute retelling of how the Ghost of Christmas Past helped Scrooge to see that he needed to mend his ways showed us that Verity isn't all sugar and spice and all things nice after all and won't accept being walked all over.
I flew through this book in a few hours and am eagerly awaiting book 9 to continue the adventures. Highly recommended to anyone that likes a good cozy mystery series.
I love Angie Fox. I still have not found a book I don’t love in this series. A Christmas tale to add to your list of books to read. Verity Long is all decked out to go to a Christmas Eve party with her boyfriend Ellis’ family. Yet Ellis’ mother has gone too far this time and somebody needs to stand up to her. Verity will find herself going on ghostly trips thru the past, present, and future and hopefully will understand what the spirit are trying to tell her with enough time to make a difference.
A retelling of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” instead with a ghost hunter, a skunk, and a gangster (I know it sounds like I am starting a joke). A novella so it is short and fun to read. It also has a great moral about not letting other affects us to the point we change who we are. We might not like what we turn into at the end.
A fun read and a great addition to the series.
Verity and her boyfriend Ellis are in love, the only down side being his family, or more particularly, his mother. It doesn't help that Verity was engaged to Ellis' brother, Beau, and broke it off due to Beau's can't keep it in his pants behaviour, and then Virginia, Beau and Ellis' mother saddled Verity with the bill.
Virginia doesn't think Verity is good enough for Ellis, but then, Virginia doesn't think any one does anything well enough to her mind, and this has been a growing problem for Verity, and this Christmas Eve is the night that Verity snaps.
This novella is a take on A Christmas Carol, and it was one that I enjoyed! The characters are explained to you so that you don't have to have read previous books to understand the situation, and it helps to remind you if you can't remember what happened in a previous book!
The Ghost of Christmas Past was published on 29th November 2019, and is available to buy on Amazon and on Waterstones. I've found a link to where you can search for local bookshops, including independent!
This is book 8.5 in the Southern Ghost Hunter series, and I've reviewed number 7, Pecan Pies and Dead Guys and number 8, The Mint Julep Murders.
Angie Fox also has another series of books called Accidental Demon Slayer, which has 11 books in the series! She also has a Facebook page and a reader group.
If you're interested in cosy crime books, then other than the previous book in this series, I'd suggest The Liar in the Library by Simon Brett 🌟🌟🌟.
I was given this book for free in return for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to Moose Island Books and Author Collective 20 (the publishers) for this book.
