This book is a must read for parents, psychologists and people just interested. It’s very well set out making it easy to read and understand. It’s interactive and you can write in the actual book with information on anxiety, symptoms etc, with spices for reflection and action in your own life. There’s chapters for both parents and children helping both parties understand which is great. There are also examples and diagrams again making it easier to understand and implement into your own life.
I really enjoyed this book and felt like Malie did a really good job of walking the line between encouraging parents to think compassionately about their children, but also to be compassionate with themselves. I think it would be a really important book to read as a prospective parent, just to open your mind to thinking about exactly how you might go about supporting your children through any emotional issues that occur. I think it also did a really good and important job of normalising mental health conditions but also of having periods where your mental health needs input, and I thought it was really helpful to compare that to your physical health, I.e. something that needs regular input to be maintained. Overall, a very helpful and well written book. It was not overwhelmingly scientific but felt really well informed.
