WOW! is all I can say about this book!
I literally couldn’t put it down - I read it in two days into the early hours. It really is a gripping novel.
After ready the debut book by this author and enjoying it thoroughly, I couldn’t wait to get started on this one.

The story is set in a village in Bristol and begins back in the 90’s when a group of teenage school girls, led by the main character Sophie, all plan to loose their innocence at the same time before entering the final year of school. All appears to have worked out, apart from one couple who don’t want to talk about what happened.

The story then jumps into the presence and we find out more about an adult Sophie, still living in the same village and home and running her family business. Sophie is successful and happy in life, until sinister letters and things begin to happen, seemingly relating to that fateful night back in the 90’s. Sophie makes contact with the original group of boys and girls and things really start to take a twist.
The story follows what happens next and has an ending you really don’t see coming.

This is a well written book and a real thriller!
Hope the author decides to release another soon.

10/10 for me on this book!

Another great read by Gemma. This book tells the story of Sophie White. As a teenager Sophie and her friends thought it would be a good idea to all lose their virginity to each other on the same night. Taking the keys to an empty house from her Dad’s estate agency they put their plan into action. On leaving school soon after Sophie lost touch with all her friends being the only one to stay local. Taking over the business when her Dad retires Sophie forgets all about that night until over twenty years later things start happening which seem to have a bearing on that fateful night. Although I guessed who was doing it I still give this book 5 stars for originality and detail the story goes into. Gemma is definitely an author I will look out for in the future.

An excellent book with twists and turns, the book was a little disturbing, but not in a bad way. The characters are very like able. This is my first book by the author and I look forward to reading more.

I’d like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Payback’ by Gemma Rogers in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

In 1997 Sophie and her friends Hayley, Becca, and Robyn are fifteen-years-old and decide to lose their virginity before they leave school. With the help of Gareth, James, Elliot and Mark, Sophie arranges for them to meet up for an evening to get it over with, but things don’t go as she planned. Twenty years later Sophie is receiving threatening messages and Gareth is killed in a car crash which appear to be connected to what occurred that evening, but why is it happening twenty years later? Who hates Sophie enough to want to harm her and her friends?

‘Payback’ is a well-written and extremely chilling psychological thriller that had me in its grasp from start to finish. It had interesting characters, a cleverly thought-out plot, drama, suspense, and plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Towards the end I suspected who was responsible but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment, especially when I reached the conclusion which was disturbing and all the loose ends were tied up. I can thoroughly recommend this thriller and look forward to the next one.

I recently read Stalker by Gemma Rogers and enjoyed it, I knew i'd be watching out for any other books by her. When I saw Payback on 'Netgalley I was thrilled when my request to read an ARC of it was approved.
It took me no time at all to fly through the pages of this book. I found it a very easy and enjoyable read.
I really think Gemma is going to be an author to watch out for, her style of writing is what helps keep you gripped, enough going on and suspense to keep you wanting to read on.
I loved the idea behind this story, how your teenage years can, in years to come change your life totally. What you think is just teenage fun can have a effect on people years down the line.
Friends decided they are all ready to lose their virginity. Deciding they should all do this at the same time the organise a little get together with a group of friends and decide who will be paired up with who.
Years later when one of the group is killed in an accident, things start to come back to haunt Sophie, how can she change things that happened in the past.
A gripping read that will leave you wanting more.

I loved Gemma Rogers’s first book, Stalker, and was hoping Payback would be just as good and IT WAS. If you haven’t read Stalker, get it right this minute. It’s a very fast-paced story of cat-and-mouse and I absolutely loved it.

From page one I was hooked and what I especially like about Gemma’s writing is how she keeps the tension tight, the story moving quickly and the main plot keeps the reader interested and curious!

In 1997 teenager Sophie White and her three girlfriends decide they want to lose their virginity before summer is over.

Roping in her childhood buddy Gareth and his mates, Sophie holds a party to get the deed over and done with, but the night doesn’t end as planned.

Twenty years later, the group are brought back together when Gareth is killed in a car accident and Sophie begins receiving threatening messages. It seems the party wasn’t as innocent as everyone thought and now someone wants payback.

If you are into psychological thrillers then you will definitely enjoy this. I loved how the author created such an intricate plot and tied together with the past and the present. I am eagerly anticipating the next book from Gemma. She’s an author I am keeping my eye on!

A really fun and pretty creepy story. Completely held my interest throughout. Nice and likeable characters. However I just don’t think this book will be very memorable. Sorry

They say karma is a b*tch, but without a doubt, payback is as well! The story starts off innocently with some teenagers that want to get that final piece of childhood removed, and jumps to the future where that innocent night comes back to haunt them.
Well written and can't wait to read some more by Ms Rogers.

I’d say Payback was a good introduction to thriller stories but I can’t recommend if you’ve read one before. You’ll figure out who the antagonist is straight away!

A good average thriller with fast pacing and lots to unravel. The only thing I didn’t like was the references to Brexit and Netflix to then be mentioned in the next sentence the character has no interest in either.....why mention them then?

I went off the East End gangster type novel a few years ago and I must admit that the cover of this one did put me off a little. However, the reviews were so good that I wanted to give it a go.
Really glad I did.
Superbly written, very pacy and just the right length, this book kept me changing my mind as to who (and why) was targeting the heroine and I found myself changing my mind several times.
A very satisfying conclusion which neatly ties up all the loose ends.
Most impressed and will be looking out for more by this author.

Another superb stand alone thriller from Gemma Rogers following on from her debut novel Stalker. Payback is exactly what it says, a story about Sophie and her childhood friends and one of them is after paying back all the others as revenge from when they were all friends in school and Sophie got them all together one night for all of them to lose their virginity together. It soon becomes clear to Sophie when one of the friends Gareth dies in a car accident that some one is out for payback land then she starts to receive notes and cards each one getting more menacing and when another friend is injured, Sophie has to try and figure out just who is behind the payback and why ? Once again is a well written gritty thriller from Gemma Rogers that races along at a good speed and with a surprise ending this really is another 5 star winner from Gemma Rogers.

What a brilliant read! A very well written story that flows seamlessly from start to finish. Great plot with a few red herrings along the way. Thoroughly enjoyable.

When I read the synopis from the back of this book,I was so intrigued and couldn't wait to read it. I went in thinking this was a thriller novel, but for me it was more of a suspense novel. Other than that I thought this book was pretty interesting and well written. I can't wait to read more novels by Gemma Rogers in the near future!
