Trust MeThe Story of Blue by Maddie James.
The year is 2095. The Americas Revolution has ended. And Cyan Sebastian—the last blue-eyed, Caucasian woman known to exist in the Western hemisphere—is on the run. Her safe and sequestered life ripped apart, she is running with a man who has sworn to protect her. A man who once hunted her for the bounty she would fetch. The man who days before, killed her father. Devin McCrae is that man. Having tracked Cyan and her family for years, Devin never dreams her father will one day drop her in his lap with a proposition he cannot refuse. He never imagines that instead of hunting Cyan for the bounty on her head, he will become her protector and safeguard her from the others.
Brilliant read. Loved it. 5*.
This novel is set in the future. Cyan and her mother are hunted because they are the last caucasian women. They are wanted for science, trafficking, etc. Cyan’s mother was lost when she was younger during an attack in their home. Cyan has spent most of her life on the run with her dad until he was murdered. Cyan is then on the run getting help from an unlikely allow, her fathers murderer.
I’m not keen on books where the characters are travelling. As Cyan is never safe, she's always on the move. Another disorientation factor is the story is told from several viewpoints and there is a lot of jumping back and forth in time.
It was uncomfortable to read at times. There wasn’t only one rape scene but several, told by different characters and different times.
There is a romance between Cyan and her allie and I enjoyed the steamy scene in the barn. I also liked Cyan’s powers and would have liked more but then she would have been less vulnerable. Overall, this book was not for me.
I was provided this book by Net Galley.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest.
This was a difficult novel to read. We are drawn in the action from the first chapter and led through a series of events that have multiple timelines and no clear picture of what's going on. Blue is on the run with a assassin in a world where the militia rules and races have mixed so much that Blue is the only pure Caucasian woman left. It gets more disturbing as there are scenes of rape where white women are raped by "mulattos". Just very confusing and borderline racist .
An interesting read, nice characters and a decent enough story. It just didn’t seem to jump out at me, or seem that amazing or different from lots of other books out there on similar plots. Nice read.
