I am such a huge fan of Portia Macintosh! She writes the best rom-com/feel good stories there are. She has a way of writing witty, likable characters that you feel for and miss when the book is finished. I laughed through most of this book, and am looking forward to reading more Portia!

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

This was such a quick read! I ended up finishing the book in one sitting because it just drew me in. Yes, the plot is nothing we haven't seen before but I really enjoyed the execution and also really vibed with the humor of the protagonist. While I will say that this had a very strong start but a bit of a lackluster middle, I think the end was just too abrupt and could have used a bit more time. Definitely an escapism story (light chick-.lit, nothing too over the top) recommended to people who just want to have a good time!

I loved this read! Light, funny, and original. It’s the perfect romantic comedy, I definitely laughed out loud a few different times, I loved how easy the story flowed. Would recommend!

I enjoyed this book but it was slow at some points and the way it wrapped up the mystery was a bit obvious.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of My Great Ex-Scape.

My Great Ex-Scape was a very easy read. It’s just one of those books you take comfort in. It was free flowing didn’t have all the drama, the sex, the trashy aspect in most romance books. Don’t get me wrong I love all that but this book could be Describe as light and refreshing. A must read after coming off a heavy read.

My Great Ex-Cape is a genuinely funny and captivating read. Slightly cliche but in the best ways. Utterly charming characters and a well written plot that will have you laughing out loud. Really well done and a perfect read for fans of this genre!

A little dull and drawn out for me. I thought I was going to lie this one more just based on the premise, sadly, it was just ok.

Silly, cringey rom-com which I could see making an awesome Netflix film. It was strange but fun and even though at times I felt a little funny about some things happening it was still fun and enjoyable. Easy and light.

Imagine you just got dumped on national TV, only to come home to a bouquet of gorgeous flowers with a note saying "I love you. I should never have let you go. I want you back." Would you track down ur 5 ex-boyfriends to find out which one sent it?? So begins this silly, fun romcom, choc full of cringeworthy moments, awkward conversations and outlandish circumstances. Though Rosie has a bit of a self deprecating personality, u can't help but root for her (even though sometimes I just wanted to shake her!🙄). One sentiment that resonated with me was something Rosie answered her ex, " Doesn't it seem like it was meant to be?" he asked. "Doesn't everything, if you look at it in the light that you want to?" All in all, I enjoyed this quick light read- thank you @bookandtonic for sending this my way 😘

One of my favourite reads this year! I love books set on cruise ships but they are rare. Great characters, humorous plot line. Would definitely recommend. Thanks!

I enjoyed this book. First one by this author, but for sure it will not be the last. Great book to return too at the end of the day.

The second I saw that cover I knew I had to read this book, after all I do love a good cruise. And when a first chapter involves Rosie getting dumped on live TV where all she was trying to do was call him as a "phone a friend" style life line, well the clip goes viral. She does win the money, but needs to escape her life at the same time.

She ends up on a journey to revisit all her ex-boyfriends as she is convinced one of them sent her flowers in the aftermath.

This is one hilarious book, I loved every second of it, especially the cruise, her travelling companions, the fact it was a over 55s cruise line (and she is considerably younger), some of her ex-es are wonderfully entertaining, its just all around one addictively feel good book.

I just couldn't get enough of this story, I even very almost missed my stop on the tube while reading, I didn't even realise I'd left the starting station and suddenly twigged I needed to get off!! Portia MacIntosh has a way with words that really works for me.

I love her storytelling abilities and this is one that felt really fresh to me. The descriptions of the cruise ship all rang true to me, and I would imagine it was possibly based on a Cunard transatlantic sailing, given the way the ship was described and my impressions of Cunard! A magnificent ship, full of activities, formal dining and just keep your eye out for the Michael Buble tribute - he is gorgeous and rather key!

Another simply wonderful book from one of my favourite authors.

Thank you to Boldwood and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A Trip Down Memory Lane.....
When Rosie Jones takes a trip down memory lane she gets more than she bargained for. Fun romcom with a likeable protagonist trying to find her way in life. Will she find her future happiness buried somewhere in the past? Enjoyable escapism.

I’ve just finished My Great Ex-Scape. I found this to be a brilliant read. The story was well written, characters were described perfectly and the story flowed at a good pace.

Rosie is a likeable main character who comes across as a normal woman that is very relatable. She’s funny, down to earth and hugely realistic. After receiving an anonymous bunch of flowers she sets off in search of her ex-boyfriends. Each ex is well written and their individual characters are fab. Josh is the stand out ex and I found myself rooting for him and Rosie.

Elements of the story were so well described: the cruise, arriving in New York, Manchester.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it won’t be my last. I loved the writing style, use of language and the humour running through the story.

Thank you NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a perfect way to brighten up a dull January. My Great Ex-Scape is the perfect mood lifter if you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps, it’ll certainly put a smile on your face and I can’t believe I’ve never read any of Macintosh’s books before. That will definitely be rectified soon.

Rosie Jones isn’t lucky in love but when she receives a bunch of flowers with a note saying I love you, I should have never let you go, I want you back x after being dumped by Dinosaur Dave on national tv during a game show she decides to use the £50,000 to take a trip down memory lane and find this ex that has declared his love for her.

I loved following Rosie on her journey, she’s a great character and I think anyone could empathise and relate to her. I loved how she picked herself up after such a humiliating situation and watching her learn things about herself was quite uplifting.

I found myself just totally engrossed in this story, it’s one those books that you just don’t want to put down. It’s filled with humour and fun and quirky characters that make you smile and I really didn’t want it to end.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute reading My Great Ex-Scape, the story flowed well and I found myself totally lost in the pages. There were some real laugh out loud moments and it was just the perfect medicine to brighten up my day.

I’ll definitely be recommending this book and I can’t wait to read more from Portia Macintosh soon.

My Great Ex-Scape by Portia MacIntosh is a fun and easy read.

Rosie has a chance to win a lot of money on live TV quiz show, and when she gets to the question she doesn't know, she calls her boyfriend for help. Before she can even ask the question he dumps her but answers her question.
Next morning she finds flowers in front of her apartment with a mysterious note, implying that he wants her back.
She goes back home to sort herself out and meets an old boyfriend who convinces her to look for two possible ex boyfriends who might have sent her a note.
She needs to go on a cruise in order to meet them. As a part of misunderstanding her parents and ex boyfriend join her as well.

Truthfully, I had a hard time finishing this book. I am a fan of the author but what seemed like a great idea simply felt flat. It is easy to read and light-hearted but not as funny nor as romantic as advertised by the publisher.
There are parts of the book that shine through but there aren't many to make this a great read it was supposed to be.
One thing that really bothered me what the fact that she so desperately wanted to find out who sent her those flowers. I just couldn't understand why she would go to the lengths to do so.
I really liked both the main protagonist as well as the side characters, they are lovely, funny and entertaining.

This was a cute story with a fun premise. I loved the cruise ship parts of the story - the reader really gets a good feel for the main characters while they are on a ship for a week. Rosie's parents on the cruise were adorable! And I loved that she rekindled her friendship with Eli so she had a "wingman" and pal to support her through the rest of the journey.

The balance of the story was odd. There were 4 exes in addition to the guy who dumped her. But we resolved two of them with regard to the flowers early on in the story. That left a large part of the book to only two possibilities. That didn't leave much of a "surprise" on how things would turn out in the end. But the ending was satisfying.

There are some great LOL moments in this - and also some painfully embarrassing ones. I enjoyed the journey through them all. (Language, LGBTQ+)
