This was Soo easy to read, and was fun ,sweet and went super fast.
Rosie is a lovely character and very easy to identify with. The book on the whole can be likened to anything by Sophie Kinsella. It's real, honest and a fantastic Romantic comedy.
I look forward to seeing more from Portia MacIntosh
Top marks for the cover. The book itself was lovely. Nice feel good read . It was well written and flowed well. Perfect setting to imagine your there on these cold dark nights.
I’d been looking forward to this book ever since I heard it was being written. I love books by this author and this one is no exception. This is a good, fun read that you can lose yourself in.
A cute chick lit read! It had just the right laughs and put a smile on my face when reading! Loved it as cute story.
Another really good read by Portia Macintosh. I like Rosie and her voice throughout. She felt very genuine and real. Plenty of funny laugh out loud moments and really good supporting characters as well. Well worth a read.
A great book...
Rosie has been dumped like she has by all her other exes but this tike it was live on tv, how cruel can someone be?
to boost Rosie, she gets some beautful flowers and some lovely messages without a name in sight so she has no idea who sent them to her, Her journey goes back home and on a cruise to NYC along with her parents. One way or another she will find out who sent the messages and it has to be one of the exes...
Its a good light quick read, easy to follow and undersatand and many lol moments.
Thanks to netglaley for this.
2.5 stars. This was my first book by Portia MacIntosh. I came away with mixed feelings. The story had positive elements. I loved the character of Eli - Rosie and Eli’s relationship was the by far the best part of the book - but for the most part it was boring and repetitive. Character development was lacking and the ending was so quick and unrealistically wrapped up.
This was an advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and the Publishers for this ARC
I came across this book today while listening to the audio excerpts - the newest netgalley feature that I genuinely like. After a few mins. of listening to the first chapter of this book, I requested to read this brand new by Portia Macintosh.
To be honest this us not my first book by the author and it is not going to be my last. I like the authors way of telling a story and bringing a character to life.
The plot of this story concerns our protagonist who goes out in search of the one ex boyfriend who confessed that he regrets letting her go and that he wants her back. Trapped in a job that she doesn't like and having faced public humiliation by her recent boyfriend of a few months, she goes out in her search for the man who, apparantly, regrets letting her go.
This story was charming with lots of laugh out loud moments and filled with lovable characters. I liked the adventure that the protagonist went. It served as a great eye opener for her. She started observe her life more clearly while searching for the one left behind. I wush I could say that it was a easy task. It was not at all easy. But the irony of it all didn't strike until the end of all this fiasco. Trust me it was a true laugh out loud moment! I had a fore head smacking moment at the end along with a good laugh. So its safe to say it was a delightful read. This is this good plot, a steady narration, goid characters and many funny and insightful moments. I will gladly recommend it to all fans of Sophie Kinsella and Paige Toon.
If you want a good book with witty protagonist with great friends and a good laugh then this is for you.
Happy reading!
This book was very sweet. It felt like the mixture between a Sophie Kinsella book and Christina Lauren book. It was light, it was funny, and it was sweet. It was exactly what I would want to read as a pick-me-up on a rainy day. It was really sweet and I can't wait to buy it when I can get a physical copy.
This is the first book I have read by Portia Macintosh but it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed her writing style and was hooked from page one. Rosie’s public humiliation takes her back to her supportive mum and dad and on a journey to meet up with her ex boyfriends
One ex Eli becomes a good friend Who accompanies her and her parents on a cruise to New York to meet up with another ex
I enjoyed Rosie’s antics on the cruise, this book had everything I enjoy in a good read. Humour, romance, a main character who is a bit scatter brained and a story that kept me wanting to keep reading.
This was such a cute read! I enjoyed the authors light and easy writing style and the characters she developed. The idea of being dumped on television is horrifying but makes for the perfect start to a rom-com. It was funny and sweet and I read it quickly because I was drawn in.
My Great Ex-Scape was an enjoyable, entarteining read with such a positive vibe.
Rosie, our heroine, gets to appear on a quiz show, wins £50,000 and to be dumped by her boyfriend on live tv on the same night. No need to say that she unfortunately goes viral and the next day besides the hundreds messages on social networks that wait for her she also gets a bouquet of flowers with a mysterious unsigned message. She wants to find out who sent it to her so she starts a journey who will take her to the most exciting experience of her life.
I really liked to follow her research of happiness.
Portia MacIntosh was so good giving the reader such a great message, in fact she wants to tell us that even if sometime our life looks crappy the future is not written yet and we have a chance to change it.
"Always take chances, and even if they don't work out, take new ones. You never know what's waiting around the corner that will completely change your life."
I recommend you to read this story, you won't regret to escape on a beautiful transatlantic cruise with our heroine and a group of amusing characters.
This book is a fluffy ball of ridiculousness but I cannot deny that it was entertaining. The heroine, Rosie, is pretty clueless as she attempts to figure out which of her exes sent her flowers with a message saying that they want her back. She does have a big heart, loving and zany parents, and the need to escape a cringeworthy public dumping on her side as she meets with the men from her past. Equally eye roll and chuckle inducing, this is right book to be read when you want something a bit silly but should perhaps be avoided while in other moods.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
REVIEW:⭐️⭐️.5 My Great Ex-Scape
After Rosie is dumped by Dino Dave on national TV, she receives flowers from a mystery ex boyfriend. Setting out to find out who sent them, she ends up on a transatlantic cruise with her ex (turned gay best friend), another dreamy Michael Bublé impersonated ex, and her parents.
I loved the concept of this book so much! The plot really got me excited. I also love a first person, voicey style of writing. There was some funny moments throughout. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style overall. I did find there were tons of massively long paragraphs and run on sentences that were derived from Rosie’s rambling train of thought. Because of that, I have to say it wasn’t a favourite of mine.
Thank you netgalley and boldwood books for this ARC!

If you like Sophia Kinsella, you'll enjoy this one. The setup is pretty similar to many of her books-- young girl trying to make it in a disappointing career and relationship, has massive disappointment and/or humiliation publicly and then we begin a quest...
The quest here is to find which exBF sent flowers saying I love you, I want you back, etc. The start of the book is pretty slow, and a healthy suspension of disbelief is required. Rosie, our MC, her new BFF, and her parents go on a cruise to see a few exes and holiday.
I liked the relationship between Eli (BFF) and Rosie, and her parents are cute plot devices. I didn't really connect or have a good sense of the shipmates and could not keep any of them straight.
The book is a first person narrative, with Rosie speaking directly. Her voice seems a lot younger than 31, and is funny at times, but I found her inattentive and self absorbed. Fortunately, there is some growth, and by the end she is reacting realistically to people's BS and gratefully to those who have supported her.
This book, like most, is fairly straight, white and middle class. There is one gay character, who helps with fashion advice and confidence boosting of our MC. It's pretty stereotypical, with no real time or energy dedicated to his story and eventual romance. It's unfortunate because the author did put time and energy into this character.
Overall, it is a quick read if you're looking for a poolside book.
This is the third book I've read by Portia MacIntosh and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great opening - which quickly sees you hoping things improve for Rosie after Dinosaur Dave dumps her on live TV. I enjoyed the fact that she had a good relationship with her parents (very few people in books do). The story evolves well as she meets her ex-boyfriends one by one - Eli becomes a great new best friend who looks out for Rosie when she desperately needs a friend.
Setting the story on the cruise ship worked well - lots of laugh out loud moments. This is more than just a rom-com, it was the perfect medicine and a 'ray of sunshine' during a dreary week full of arguing politicians and bad weather - thank you to NetGalley, Portia MacIntosh and Boldwood Books for my ARC - I will be recommending this book to friends and family.
I love reading a Portia Macintosh book. Her writing style is perfect for a good laugh, cry, think and sigh story. She carries you away into the world of her characters where you live their lives with them.
My Great Ex-Scape, I think is her best yet. I could envisage all the ups and down as her characters experienced them, and it is one of those books you want to know the ending to...but you don't want it to end.
If I say, opening one of her books is like making new friends, and knowing they won't let you down...believe me, That is a compliment of the highest order.
💕 This book has driven my husband crazy!
I started reading, and not long into it I was laughing out loud. By the end of the first chapter, Lovely Hubby was saying "So, what's so funny?" Cue - me reading bits out of the book to him.
By the end of the sixth chapter it was me saying "You'll never guess what she's doing now!"
At the middle of the book, he was asking me "So how do you think it's going to pan out?"
When I announced this morning that I'd finished it, he looked me straight in the eye and said... "you'll be giving this one a good review then I take it?"
It's fair to say, that although he pretended not to be interested, he was actively participating in my enjoyment of this hilariously funny, delightful story of lost love and a search into the past. We both enjoyed it very much.
Unfortunately for me, there were incidences in the story that we found amusing because they were (according to himself) "just like me!" Hmmm, not very complimentary but I know what he means - Not that I'm telling you which they were!
It has also gone to prove my point that cruises are what I expected them to be... 'full of old people'.
That said, I am now thinking of changing my mind about that statement and giving one a go. Purely for the novelty of finding out for myself whether cruising can be as much fun as Rosie & Co discover it to be. Unfortunately, we would probably be Clive and Linda in this scenario rather than Josh and Rosie!
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a laugh, (especially when it involves unfortunate situations) and I hope that Portia Macintosh writes a follow up soon.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced review copy.
I was so happy to discover that I was approved for this book! It was my first Portica Macintosh book and it did not disappoint. It was both charming and hilarious and I would recommend for anyone looking for a good light-hearted read.
This was a light fun read, like the book version of a British rom com.
Rosie competes on a tv game show and a) gets dumped by her bf on live tv but b) wins 50,000 pounds. So needless to say, her life gets a little bit crazier from there. She receives a bouquet that seems to be from an ex-bf so she goes on a ridiculous (in a good way!) quest to figure out who the flowers are from.
Next thing you know she's on a cruise with her parents and TWO of her exes. While the story is mostly concerned with her past/future relationships, it is not heavy on the type of content you typically find in "romance" books. This is more silly than steamy, but I enjoyed following all of Rosie's antics throughout her journey.
