This is the first book I have read by Helen Lacy and I really enjoyed my first outing with this author's books I will certainly read more from her. I like her light and emotional writing, it's easy to read and engaging and keeps you reading.
A Fortunes of Texas Christmas is your stereotypical 'Hallmark romance' it's fun, charming, feel-good - if borderline cheesy, it's nothing we haven't read before, its predictability is comforting and a perfect way to forget about the 'real' world outside - we all need light relief now don't we?
There's nothing new about the story, we passionate romance readers have read it all before but it's hugely enjoyable, it's full of passion and warmth, the romance is seduction and fun and I adore the characters they are wonderful together they bounce off each other and bring real love sparks to the story.
This book hits all the marks, its a bit slow in pace and takes a while to actually get off the ground but if your persevere you will be rewarded.
This story is by Helen Lacey and consists of 12 Chapters + Epilogue. The story is all about Amerson and Robin. It is a well written story which is both intriguing and interesting. One thing to be aware of when reading this story is that it is part of a series and this book will leave you wanting to read the rest of the series.
When Amersen learns about his biological father and siblings. He doesnt want to have anything to do with them. He is perfectly happy living his life. When he gets a call from Kate the matriach of the Fortunes. He reluctantly heads to Texas. When he bumps into Robin in the Fortunes gardens. Its lust at first sight. Along with a business propositon Amersen decides to stick around a while. Can a parisian playboy find his happily ever after? Or will Robin just be a temporary fling?
I love Helen Laceys style of writing. She knows how to spin you a story that will keep you hooked.
Highly recommended for fans of contemporay romance.
When I first started reading this book I thought that it seemed familiar, it was only when I was about a third of the way through that I realised why, I had read it before...
I did enjoy reading it again and with some perspective I can see that there are a lot of things that I missed the first time round.
The characters are well written, however Robin seems more realistic, I struggled a bit with Amerson, he seemed a bit cut off from the story and it took time for me to accept him. I think it was linked to the fact that there are a lot of secrets that he is hiding about his family and that he is trying to protect himself
Robin is determined to embarrass Amerson, but just because he seems so perfect but also slightly arrogant. Whilst I didn't fully agree with her tactics at the time, thinking about it, it would be something that I might just do myself, subjecting the new boyfriend to dinner with the parents etc!
There was a good split of voices which I enjoyed and which helped me with the story and keeping up with what was happening and why. This book is part of a series but can be read alone which I think really works as it gives the reader a chance to decide whose story they want to discover!
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a romance with a feisty main character who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to call out the hero when needed!
A French entrepreneur learns he is the son of the famous Fortune family. Although determined not to be seen as a part of the family he becomes involved when offered the chance to be the face of a new product.
An enjoyable read.
I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
A Fortunes of Texas Christmas is written by Helen Lacey and has also been made into a Channel5 film. French entrepreneur Amersen Beaudin is reluctant to meet his newly discovered blood relative. Matriarch Kate Fortune offers him an attractive business deal if he meets his new family. He travels to Texas and nets their gardener, Robin Harbin. He wants a. Christmas affair, she wants his love. Can she convince him that love can work and achieve a joyeux Noel and more.
There is chemistry between the pair and it is interesting to see two diametrically opposes characters - she is struggling to run her family’s stables and be the gardener for the Fortunes whilst he is s bored Billionaire playboy. His money and lifestyle doesn’t impress her, she wants love and long term commitment. An enjoyable seasonal romance.
I received this book via Netgalley and Mills and Boon in exchange for a honest review. I am a #MillsAndBoonInsider #netgalley
A very wealthy, bored man meets an ordinary girl who is struggling to help with her father’s stables but also landscaping the gardens of a wealthy woman. This woman is trying to encourage him to be involved in her cosmetics industry. Put them all in a pot and stir and you get a very enjoyable recipe for romance!
I really liked this enjoyable romance. The chemistry between the characters is evident, and the book is well written and nicely paced.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Mills & Boon Insiders for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A Fortunes Of Texas Christmas is the first book in the Fortunes of Texas series by Helen Lacey.
From the moment that our hero French entrepreneur Amersen Beaudin spots gardener, Robin Harbin dressed in a beautiful white dress walking through her bosses garden he is in lust. Even without seeing her face he believes she is a woman he could happily get to know much better. From that moment too, I realised I was going to really enjoy this book.
Amerson is one of many illegitimate children of the Fortune family and it is the matriarch of that family who Robin works for and who is offering a great money-making possibility to him. It is that offer that brings him from France to Texas. He quietly wants to see his 'other' family too, but he will move on that notion when and if he is ready. In the meantime, he is happy to give the money-making idea some thought, but to him, more importantly, he wants to get to know Robin much better.
Amerson's reputation as a playboy doesn't impress Robin. Despite the fact that it is very much lust at first sight for her as well as him she has been hurt in love before and thinks she should give Amerson's type a wide berth. Can he convince her to give in to her feelings, and more importantly can he stop doing what he never dreamed he would do, fall for the Texan beauty.
I enjoyed this story a lot because not only did we have the passionate romance budding between Amerson and Robin but there was also the moving back story about Amerson coming to terms with who his real father is, and getting to grips with having such a big family including other illegitimate siblings.
The relationships were believable and I loved watching everything come together. There was never a dull moment and I loved the whole Fortune family. I am really glad I had the opportunity to read this book and am happy to recommend it.
Whilst clearly part of a series of stories about the Fortunes - a family - living in Texas, this can also be read as a stand-alone - just - as I got very intrigued about all the other Fortune children mentioned if not by name, that seem to be scattered around. One really wishes that Mr Fortune, father of all these children, learnt his lesson after the first illegitimate child! And maybe had a vasectomy...
I like stories which include horses and where the young woman can stick up for herself and this story had such a character.
Otherwise it was a fairly normal boy meets girl, and finds out hat his previous tom-catting ways no longer suit him, the meetings go well, not so well, badly, then better and finally very well and a...
A competently story-teller with nice style in the genre.

Really enjoyed this
Now looking forward to the film
Another lovely read from Helen Lacey which admittedly I grabbed as I love reading a book before I watch a tv/film adaptation. Romantic, heartwarming and festive another great addition to my seasonal reading pile.
4 - "I knew I loved you the first moment I saw you…" Stars!
I am having a stellar run on Mills & Boon Seasonal titles at the moment, and Helen Lacey’s; A Fortune’s Texas Christmas, is definitely another one to add to the list.
Easy reading, great characters, low drama, and having just had a look, a wealth of other books to look at reading from the Fortune family in the future!
This is the first book that I have read by Helen and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. There is hot chemistry that sizzles of the page's along with great characters and twist and turns. Amersen is a play boy and doesn't do commitment where as Robin is all about long term commitment, hoe will this work out between them, will there be heartache and disappointment for Robin. I definitely recommend you read this book as it is so well written and worth reading.
