I was unsure when I started reading this book as I thought a story based in a care home might be a bit depressing but it was the opposite. It was really uplifting with lots of sub-plots which all came together at the end of the book. The characters were well written and you wanted to find out what happens to them.

Callie Derbyshire has it all: her dream job as a carer at Bay View, finally she has found the love of her life. Everything is perfect. Well, almost. Ex-partners are insistent on stirring up trouble, and Callie’s favourite resident, Ruby, hasn’t been her usual self. But after discovering the truth about Ruby’s lost love, Callie is determined to give Ruby’s romantic story the happy ending it deserves. After all, it’s never too late to let love in again. Or is it?
This was a light read that was a combo of 2 novellas. They flowed seamlessly together very nicely. I recommend.

This was a lovely read, I adored all the characters and the storyline was just wonderful. I especially liked how the main character chose to do her job rather than 'settling' for it which I have seen a few times. I really loved her resiliance and kindness.

I liked this book overall - the first few chapters didn’t grip me but about ⅓ of the way in, I became more invested in the characters/storyline.

A lovely cosy easy read which I really enjoyed. A story of friendship, relationships and romance. I warmed to the lovely cast of characters particularly Ruby. I was rooting for Callie to get her happy ending.

A heartwarming, lighthearted read perfect for a cosy afternoon on the sofa.

I didn’t really know where to start this review without spoiling the individual stories of the book!
Callie and Ruby are both fantastic main characters and I loved their story. Rhys , love interest but Rhys has issues of his own !
Tony !! Read and see
Plus a host of other well written characters
This book is a feel good read with very relatable characters. It is a book about second chances and friendship, and has some great twists to the tale . The reader is sucked in from the start , and you just have to keep reading !
I would thoroughly recommend this book

Oh boy, this is the sort of book you hunker down under your blanket and devour. With hunky men, meaningful relationships and loveable characters that make your heart hurt - there isnt much too dislike.

Callie only wants her happy ending, and she has tried really hard to convince herself she is getting that with her boyfriend of nearly a year, who makes her swoon and her job where she loves the residents. However from the outside as a reader you see she isnt all that happy. The man is a sleeze and she is constantly getting told off at work. When all this comes to a head, Callie is left still looking for her happy ending.

With the help of some loveable residents - Ruby ; Im looking at you. She surely can find it- cant she? Even if exes are set on getting in the way and relationships are thrown into turmoil. This was a great book, originally published as two novellas Im glad its condensed into one read because it really hooks you in. The characters are great , some are down right awful, some need a bit of guidance and some are just wonderful as they are. This was a great bit of fiction that takes you away from the reality of

your own life for a while whilst you are invested in those at Bay View/ Whitsborough.

One to pick up and indulge in.

he main character in this book is Callie. She works in a care home. The story is about Callie and the people around her, both at work and outside of work. The story has romance in it both for the younger and older generation.

I loved the characters in this book. Callie was such a lovely person and so easy to relate to. I also loved the elderly characters in this book and the friendship between young and old.
This book is filled with love and friendship.
It was written well and the story flowed easily.

I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Women’s Fiction.

A charming romantic read that is just the ticket for chasing the January blues away, Making Wishes at Bay View is an uplifting and feel-good read best read under a blanket with a mug of hot tea and a box of chocolates nearby.

Callie Derbyshire feels as if she is at the top of the world. She has everything she has always wanted: a dream job working as a carer at Bay View, the love of her life by her side and a life that is as close to perfect as it is possible to get. Nearly perfect. Callie’s dream of leading a blissful and idyllic life is thwarted by former lovers who seem keen to cause trouble and make things as difficult and problematic as possible and her favourite resident at Bayview, Ruby, not being her usual ebullient self. What is wrong with Ruby? Can Callie do something to improve her mood and alleviate her anguish? What is making Ruby so miserable? And will Callie be able to get to the bottom of whatever it is that is troubling her?

When Ruby confides in Callie and tells her a story about her lost love, Callie realizes that she cannot sit by and watch her favourite resident make herself so miserable. She is determined to do whatever it takes to bring a smile to Ruby’s face and give this unfinished romantic story the happy ending it so richly deserves. It is certainly never too late to love, but will Callie be successful in her quest to give Ruby her own happy ending and find her own path to happiness and fulfilment herself?

An immensely enjoyable tale sure to bring a smile to your face, Making Wishes at Bay View is a lovely read with a delightful heroine you cannot help but warm to. Emotional, heart-warming and captivating from beginning to end, Making Wishes at Bay View is a fabulous story about second chances, fresh starts, friendships and romance that I loved.

Jessica Redland is a writer to watch out for and I cannot wait to read more books by this talented writer.

loved this cute fluffy read! I love a thriller but every once and a while I enjoy a light fluffy read.
I loved Callie the main character, I found her to be very relatable. Most of the other characters I found to be very likeable, except for Tony.
The story follows Callie, a worker at a retirement home. Callie has an unlikeable boss but she's great with the residents in the home. The story revolves around Callie working in the home where she also met her boyfriend Tony. As the story unfolds we discover Tony isn't really who he claimed to be. Where in comes the gardener, Rhys, to save Callie. We then get to watch the relationship between Callie and Rhys unfold along side several of the residents at the home. One residents wedding is also on Christmas eve, but that's not the only magical thing to happen!
If you are looking for a quick, fun, fluffy romance to cuddle up to in this winter storm I highly recommend this read!

This is another book this year where my favourite relationship was that of a young woman and an old woman, it’s just done so perfectly, Callie and Ruby are just wonderful and it is the best relationship in the book. That doesn’t mean the others aren’t great, just that the author has true talent to show true friendship, kindness and community. Callie is so lovely, you connect with her, feel for her and just want to hug her. This is a wonderful heartwarming read. Thoroughly recommended if you want a big hug.

I knew that this was a fab book from very early on.
This is another new author for me and I am already eagerly adding more books to my TBR. This is a book I devoured in hours and found it completely impossible to put down.
I cannot say anything negative about this book, it is absolutely fantastic.
Redland is able to pull the reader in and make it extremely hard for them not to fall in love with the story. This is a delightful read which I highly recommend to anyone who loves women's fiction. I am definitely a huge fan after reading this book.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a very easy read, that is a reworking of two shorter pieces into this novel, which is part of a series by this author. Bay View is a residential home and the central character is Callie, a care worker with a heart of gold and a disastrous love life. There are some delightful characters amongst the residents and some twists and turns of plot that keep the reader engaged to a satisfactory ending.

Finally a book I've read for 2020 that didn't disappoint me. It was such a heartwarming book. I loved Callie. You couldn't help but like her. I hated how she was treated by the people around her when she herself was so kind to everyone. She didn't let it get her down though. My absolute favourite was the friendship between Callie and Ruby. It shows the true bond of friendship. This book kept my attention, it was lovely and entertaining. I will need to check out the author's books.

Author Jessica Redland is amazing. She not only can make me see emotions in the story, she can make me feel them too. This book was like a giant teddy bear, hugging me warmly on a cold Sunday evening.

Callie worked in a care home where Ruby was her favorite. She had a tough life. Her boyfriend turned out to be a louse and a troublemaker, her boss was a She-Devil, and her best friend was sleeping with the boyfriend. Ugghh.. Bad day all around. Entered Rhys who brought light and love to her life, but he came with his own past too. Callie wanted to help Ruby who had lost the love of her life many decades ago.

Having read many books by this author, I knew I was in for an emotive read. I loved the way she etched her characters so tenderly, with love. (I often felt her characters were based on her. Jessica too is sweet in real life) I loved the dips that this book took and the way the characters found their way out. Romance was seen, but it was friendship and love which took root in this book. They anchored me and made me read it at one go.

Ruby and her friend Iris were interesting, Jessica's writing made them come alive. There were hilarious moments but filled with poignancy too. The only niggle I had was Callie was too good even when the person in front wanted her to stop calling her. I wished she had respected the other person's wishes. But her living heart and caring nature saved many too.

The book was written as two novellas, but having not read them, it was easy for me to get into this. Absolutely a fun read.

Making Wishes at Bay View by Jessica Redland .

Callie is a care worker a Bay view care home who is all heart. She has a boss who is a bit of a bully , a boyfriend who is very pushy and not what he seems and treats her shabbily. Maria her best friend keeps telling her, harshly, she must toughen up as the residents are old and will die. Callie has a soft spot for, One of the residents, Ruby who has led a very exciting and exotic life and appears to have no family. Suddenly Ruby starts talking about her grandson who never seems to appear and Callie starts to worry about her health. Callie is slowly starting to question Tony’s treatment of her. The home has a new Gardner Mikey (Rhys) with whom Callie gets off on a very bad footing . Callie starts to worry about her boss Denise (The She-Devil). Callie and Tony totally breaks down when she finds out he’s married. Not everything and everyone is what they seem at the home and Callie wants to fix everyone and make them happy.

Lovely book many twists and turns and many sad tears and happy endings in this book. A beautifully written book about people’s lives and how things are not as you would think.
