While the characters are adorable and the story ended well, it just felt a little too....twee, I suppose. It was okay, but it was hard to get through and finish because it felt like there were too many loose ends and such. It wasn't bad, and I could see it being better for a slower reader who maybe reads a chapter a night, but if you are a speed reader, it just feels muddled.
What a great story line, I enjoyed this so much that it was impossible to put it down at bedtime, I read until the early hours and then spent ages thinking about this book instead of going to sleep. I intend reading many more of Jessica's novels and I hope, well I know that you will enjoy this one. This is a 10 star book but I can only give it 5 so got and get hold of a copy and enjoy it as I have done.
Such a lovely heartwarming book.
I loved how thoughtful and kind Callie was to the residents at Bay View, her kindness shone through and you just couldn’t help liking her. It was frustrating seeing her being treated so badly by others around her, however it was fabulous to see her shine and overcome those negative times.
I loved the friendship between her and Ruby, it shows that age is no barrier to a true bond of friendship and that t can come at any time.
Such brilliant characters and a gorgeous location, enough twists and unexpected moments to keep me intrigued and entertained.
Another fabulous book from a talented author whose books I enjoy immensely.
I do so enjoy Jessica Redland's lovely, uplifting books - indeed her last book, The Secret to Happiness, was one of my absolute favourites of last year.Making Wishes at Bay View was previously published as two novellas – Raving About Rhys and Callie’s Christmas Wish - but I hadn't actually read either of those so this was completely new to me.
Callie was a character I just loved. She worked in Bay View Care Home and what I really liked about her was her obvious care for the patients in her care. In fact, caring for people was a huge part of Callie's character. Sometimes she seemed to care a bit too much at times and that care wasn't always appreciated. But she was that kind of loyal friend who would always stick by someone and always try to do the right thing.
Ruby was one of the residents of the care home and I just loved her and her friend Iris. Ruby had lived quite a riotous life when she was younger and it was great hearing about her stories. She had a real no-nonsense approach to life even in her later years and just said what she thought which was quite amusing at times. The friendship between her and Iris was touchingly portrayed. She had known sadness in her life too though and with Callie's help she begins to come to terms with her past.
There's a fair bit of romance in this book too and it's not just confined to the younger characters. It was so sweet to see all the developing relationships either new or rekindled. Jessica Redland shows that love can bloom at any stage of life with the right person. However, she also showed what can happen when love goes wrong, when the green-eyed monster rears its head or when someone is badly let down. There is one character in particular who just has no redeeming qualities and seems determined to mess up as many lives as possible whilst blaming everyone else when it all backfires on them!
Making Wishes at Bay View is a lovely read, one which I whizzed through as I was so taken with the characters, particularly Callie. It was lovely to return to fictional Whitsborough Bay again. It may be fictional but it is based on an amalgamation of a few Yorkshire coastal towns and Jessica Redland's affection for these places is clear. Making Wishes at Bay View is a book which is sure to leave you with a warm feeling inside, a proper feel-good piece of writing.
I really enjoyed this book and reading all about the ups and downs of Callie’s love life.
Callie’s life is great - she enjoys her job working in a retirement home alongside her best friend Maria and her boyfriend Tony is the perfect boyfriend. But soon she finds that all is not what it appears with Tony or Maria.
Favourite care home resident, Ruby, keeps telling Callie her Grandson, Rhys, would be perfect for her; however, as Ruby doesn’t have children & Rhys has never appeared, Callie doubts he doesn’t exist. Rhys does eventually appear and Ruby explains her life story to Callie who then decides to ‘fix’ things for Ruby.
Rhys is indeed perfect for Callie and, like Ruby & Rhys’ Grandfather, they are two halves of the same person who love each other as deep as the sea, as high as the sky & longer than time.
A lovely feel-good romance story that is so very well written with wonderful characters. I haven’t read anything else by Jessica Redland but will most definitely be looking for other books by her and look forward to reading future books set in the Whitsborough Bay.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wonderful read! I really enjoyed the world that Jessica Redland created. I was enthralled by this book and immediately sucked in.
I really enjoyed this so much and I look forward to more from this author.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to review this title.

Cant wait to buy this in proper book form......
Thank you for a brilliant book
I requested this book having heard the start on NetGalley's new Audio Clips which intrigued me and I am glad I did request it, as the book does not disappoint. A cosy light read but not too frivolous as the characters did have some depth, with some good observations of human behaviour. A delightful feelgood Christmas read with plenty of ups and downs, romance and intrigue. I loved the elderly characters of Ruby and Iris with some of the others being believable. Some predictability but enough to keep the reader going with some gutsy females standing up for themselves. A relaxing dark winter evening or holiday book to lose yourself in.
I understand that this book will be part of a series which I, for one, will look forward to.
I thought this book was great. Callie, the lead character, is a young, feisty carer, who absolutely adores her job and the residents in her care. There are definitely some ups and down in Callies life, and never a dull moment. Its an absolute must read.
Ok, first of all I just have to say how happy I was to see a character who actually aspired to be a career! To read a book where being a carer is a choice, not a necessity, and where it is treated as a respectable career not a dead end job - I was amazed! I also loved the care and respect Callie showed to the residents of the home she works in, and all in all I thought it was a really positive representation of the work of a carer.
Plot wise, this was exactly what you’d expect. Yes it was a bit predictable, but who says everything in life has to be a surprise? We have more than enough uncertainty now, so sometimes a bit of predictability can be quite reassuring - I for one thoroughly enjoy knowing a happy ending is on the way!
The only thing I was say is it was clear that this was originally written as two novellas, and that the transition could have been a bit smoother. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable enough read that is nice and quick and will definitely bring a smile to your face. Yes, some of the drama is a tad repetitive and over the top, but as long as it’s fun, who cares?
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I really enjoyed this book and the characters and most of all I am happy that it will be a series. Roll on No.2
