Title: Baiting Him by - Aurora Rose-Reynolds
Standalone
Genre:
My Rating: 4.5 🌟
Loved it! Aurora Rose-Reynolds has done it again, hitting it out of the park with this witty, sensual, super cute story.
We meet Chrissie and Gaston who're pure perfection. They were so likable and sweet (not overly sweet) it was hard for me not to
get all the feels. I laughed...a lot. Cried. And got highly frustrated with some of their choices. They were REAL; their banter, emotions, actions. All real. Loved that this wasn't an insta-love sitcho but one with lots of chemistry and plenty steam. All-in-all...a fantastic read! I highly recommend! You
won't be disappointed!
*I recieved this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review *
Baiting Him is book #2 in the How to Catch an Alpha series. Aurora Rose Reynolds (ARR) brings us a fresh, fun and sexy story filled with alpha males, strong independent females and lots of romance! Tyler and Leah stole my heart in Catching Him, but look out! Because Gaston – yes, I said Gaston- and Chrissie have taken over!
Chrissie was introduced in Catching Him as Leah’s best friend. She is sweet, quirky, and caring. She owns “The Sweet Spot” bakery. Chrissie meets night club owner Gaston (Gus) at Leah’s bachelorette party. What ensues is sweet, fun, sexy and romantic! Filled with insta-lust and insta-love! Baiting Him is ARR at her finest!
“Did you just say your name is Gaston?”
“Yeah”
“Oh my God,” I whisper, horrified. “You’re like the worst villain ever.”
Gaston is the perfect alpha! Charming, considerate and smoking hot! His tenderness and love for Chrissie is swoony and romantic! Of course, there is a bit of drama, but nothing over the top. The story flows and filled my heart with warmth. A great pick me up when you want to sit and get lost in a book!
“No one looks like Gaston. No one cooks like Gaston. No one refuses to read a book like Gaston,” I sing.”
Chrissie and Gaston meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after in this super boring romance.
I’ve been on a contemporary romance kick lately. This book’s premise caught my eye – who can resist a sexy alpha falling in love with a sweetheart baker? But while the characters and synopsis sound amazing, the story left a lot to be desired. Namely, plot. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens beyond the two main characters falling in love. Perhaps the lack of a plot would have been acceptable if the characters had been more interesting. Sadly, Chrissie and Gaston fail to keep this story from turning into something seriously bland and uninteresting.
I might have chalked this story up to a “it’s me, not you” rating if not for the tears. Not mine, but the main character. Chrissie cries A LOT. Sometimes her tears seemed warranted, but most of the time not. I don’t mind emotional characters, and certainly not tears of happiness. But, my god, EVERYTHING can’t make you cry. And I certainly, as a reader, shouldn’t be laughing out loud every time I see “tears” or “cries” on the page. A little more time creating memorable characters, some sort of plot, or removing all of the crying would have made this a way more enjoyable read.
tl;dr No plot, boring characters, and the main character’s weird propensity to cry all the time had me gladly hate finishing this book.
I loved this one. Aurora Rose Reynolds is a one click author for me. She’s a guaranteed HEA Story with the right recipe of sweet and heat. Gaston and Chrissie’s story is just the fun read I needed. With witty dialogue, great chemistry and a dash of angst I Wass very happy reader.
Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm relieved because I wasn't a fan of the first in this series. This one is less formulaic from most of ARR's books. There's still the there and gone dangerous situation that randomly pops up in the last 10-20%. This one felt different as the development of the H/h's relationship was natural. The pacing, development and chemistry was perfect. Overall the story was very entertaining and I highly recommend it. Although the characters from the first book make a few appearances, it can easily be read as a standalone.
This was another fun book from Mr. Reynolds. Gaston and Chrissie are hot and yet so sweet together. I love how protective and possessive Gaston is, while also being considerate, caring, OTT attracted to Chrissie. Chrissie was a bundle of interesting... I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed this sweet and steamy story!
Chrissy is a head strong, independent gal focused on building her dream. She’s just opened her bakery and is putting everything into ensuring its success. One night out with her friends is all it takes for her life to take a turn. She runs into Gaston, yes, he’s drop dead gorgeous. But, that doesn’t deter Chrissy from her focus. Instead she tells him to get lost.
Gaston isn’t one to give up. He goes after what he wants.
“No. No way am I going to allow you to tangle me in your web that smells like cupcakes and frosting and then just walk away without knowing if I’ll see you again.”
Gaston does everything he can to get her to give him a chance. Lucky for him the sexual chemistry isn’t one sided. Chrissy is just as ensnared in his web as he is hers.
“Anything I might have said gets stuck on the tip of my tongue as an electric current crackles between us.”
These two will embark on a journey that will be completely entertaining, steamy, captivating, and of course thwarted at every turn. ARR knows how to write a story that is filled with the perfect amounts of angst, love, and swoon worthy quotes!
“Baby, you might not think you did, but you baited and landed me right in your trap by being everything you are.”
“It’s not the sex, which is beyond better than anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s just her. She makes me feel like I won the lottery every time I hear her laugh.”
The ending had me dropping tears. A well told story with all the feels! ARR’s great sense of humor comes out to play in this book. Along with her ability to create characters with quick wit and entertaining bantering dialogues that kept me thoroughly captivated. Baiting Him is a must read.
2.5 / 5 stars
I am a long time Aurora Rose Reynolds fan but I'm disappointed to say I didn't love Baiting Him. Her writing was on par with her previous works but for some reason the whole story felt stale. Girl meets Boy at nightclub, instant connection. He pursues her, she resists and then finally gives in because she can't resist his charming personality. He's alpha but sweet, and she's just your average run of the mill heroine. Sadly both characters are forgettable and so is the storyline, which seemed to not have any point. If you're looking for a light, fluffy insta love happily ever after romance you'll enjoy this one. Unfortunately I was expecting a bit more when I went into it.
Aurora checked every box my romance heart has when looking for that amazing romance story! Gaston brought the right amount of alpha feels by knowing that Chrissy was the one for him but not being overly pushy . The confidence Aurora writes her male leads with is what makes her stories so addictive.
And Chrissy was no mousy damsel either. She is an independent business owner who isn't just going along with whatever Gaston wants, but equally knows there is something undeniable between them that she can't ignore.
While she's in a place where her trust in love and relationships isn't the strongest, Gaston shows her that theirs is one that is meant to be.
Baiting Him is another addition to a collection of ARR reads I continue to adore and obsess over!
I really enjoyed this book and plowed through it in just a few hours time. It has all the goodness that is Aurora Rose Reynolds and couldn't ask for more. Well, storywise anyway. I will always ask for more books from her please.
This is the second book in Aurora Rose Reynold's "How to Catch an Alpha" series. I adore this author and this book was exactly what I expected from her. With that being said, I want to say that one of the reasons that I enjoy this author so much is that her books are predictable and comfortable. I would compare it to watching a hallmark movie. You know what's going to happen, but you still enjoy it.
If you want a comforting, feel good read, then this is the book for you!
In this book Chrissy meets Gaston or Gus at a nightclub and they instantly hit off. Regardless of ARR's other books, this one didn't have the instalove or "boom" factor that her fans (and myself) adore, but it still worked. I really liked seeing Chrissy and Gaston fall in love and their relationship grow.
I gave this book 3 stars because I didn't feel as invested in the characters as I normally do. I did enjoy it, though.
Gaston has to convince Chrissie!
Chrissie is doing her best friend duty by throwing a bachelorette part at Twilight nightclub when she met the owner. Gaston wanted to know her better but Chrissie wasn’t so sure since her job was running her bakery with early mornings and Gaston’s job was managing his nightclub and owned two bars which lead to late nights.
Chrissie felt that Gaston is almost too gorgeous to look at and she originally thought that guys that gorgeous would never settle for someone like her. Gaston used every second to change her mind because he knew that Chrissie was the one for him but he had to convince her of that.
Baiting Him is a fun romance to read and I laughed every scene of Gaston with his dog and you will understand why when you read the book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I always knew Gaston was the guy who should’ve gotten the girl, and Aurora Rose Reynolds has solidified that with this story. ARR’s Gaston (or Gus) and Chrissie provides the perfect post-holiday read to help me relax and remind me of the bloom that comes with the beginnings of love. Chrissie is content with her life: work, sleep, spend some time with friends, repeat; but a chance meeting with Gus has her realizing that there’s definitely more to be had. And Gus is more than willing to be the man by her side through her journey of self-realization toward true happiness. I adored how he was there for her in every way and never wavered in his confidence that he and Chrissie are meant to be.
I really loved this book. There was no drama between the couple, it had a believable relationship and plenty of steamy scenes.
I loved that even though technically not much happened, it was no boring at all,. The hero knew what he wanted from the beginning, he was not a manwhore and actually cared for the heroine.
Every time I read a book by this author its always a great story and I can never put it down until the entire book is finished and that is what I did with this book I love this book and I just love the chemistry so much
5 stars
Aww this book is super sweet and all lovey dovey. So cute. I enjoyed the whole insta-like/attraction story and i was smiling so big throughout the book. We met Cassie in Book 1 of the series. She is the best friend of Leah. She owns a bakery and met Gaston in a bar Gaston owns. I love the name Gaston lol. I m always have been fan of ARR romance and this story didn't disappoint either. Loved it from the beginning and enjoyed every second of this amazing story...
Can't wait for next book in the series!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book. I liked book two more than book one in this series. Gaston is definitely not the villain here, and is pretty much perfect. Chrissie is a likeable character too and nothing too dramatic happens to force these characters apart.
It was a fun, light read with an easy going cast.
3.5 stars
I really love Aurora Rose Reynolds but I thought the description of the book was a little deceptive. It implies that were will be some suspense with someone out to hurt Chrissie, but that really didn't happen. I did like this one, but it did feel like it dragged a little. Still, I can't wait to read more by Aurora Rose Reynolds.
I loved this so much!! While it wasn’t important to read the first in the series, it does help a little bit to understand the characters.
Aurora writes the best alpha males and this was no exception! Her females are strong on their own but she weaves them together in the best of ways.
If I were to surmise this book in one sentence it would be: having the good life. For Gaston when you know, you know and there is no question about it. And it's a great thing for Chrissie that he sets his eyes on her because that man treats her like a precious queen. Who doesn't want to be a queen?! And well deserved too. Her character is a sweet, thoughtful, caring, hard working woman that deserves a lot of loving from the right man. And he makes sure to always make her feel like she is not one more in the bunch. That she is special, no bull, straight up, no doubt the one for him. This story is top level romantic with a swoon worthy alpha and minimal drama.
