This is the first of Helen H. Durrant's books I have read and I am now desperate to read her others! What an amazing ride this book is! Full of twists and turns and a case of mistaken identity thrown in the mix, I loved every page of it and devoured it in 2 days.
If you love crime fiction you definitely have to give this book a go.

Fabulous as always! Short punchy reads by Helen H Durrant mean I can always read in one sitting, which is fab as her books grip me from page one

A murderer with the perfect plan or so he thought, although he led the police on a merry ride. To be tripped up by a slight of mistaken identity entwining another deadly case. What a case for these law enforcers and to find out one of your own was dirty, it made their job even more difficult. Mixed in with a little romance this book turned out to be quite spiffy if I do say so. An engrossing captivating and intriguing read.

This is the third book in the DCI Rachel King series, and while I believe it technically could be read as a stand-alone novel, this one does mention several aspects of the last book which may be confusing to a first-time reader.

This is one of those stories that draws you in from the beginning and has you guessing throughout. There are a lot of questions that pop up, not only during the course of Rachel's investigation, but in other areas as well. What is Keaton up to? Does Rachel really have a mole in her department?

When you factor in Jed and his complicated relationship with Rachel and her youngest daughter, this a book that pulls no punches. The characters are complex (Rachel more so than any of the others, although we do get glimpses of the various personalities of the other cops in her unit), this story is fast-paced, but interesting enough to keep you reading to find out what happens next.

One of the things I like most about this series is the way that while there are several offshoots of both the investigation as well as goings-on in the personal life of the characters, somehow they all (for the most part) manage to be interconnected. A blackmail threat here turns into a lead there, a stranger in a town car turns into an unforeseen threat, etc. Even when it seems like something might be completely random, the author has a purpose to everything she does.

Overall, these books are perfect for someone who enjoys a good police novel with twists and turns. I will definitely continue not only with this series, but with other books by this author.

Wrong Victim by Helen Durrant is set around the East side of Manchester and is the third book in the DCI Rachel King series. She is proving that she is a force to be reckoned with and won’t back down. Although there are some people she finds it hard to work with.

DCI Rachel King and DC Elwyn Pryce were called to a nursing home where an elderly patient had been found dead in his bed. It seemed he had been suffocated, then covered in confetti and had his ring finger removed. When DCI King took the patient’s daughter to identify his body, it appears it’s not her father! She has never seen the man before in her life. So who is in the morgue? Where is the man who should be in the nursing home? Is he still alive?

Then they receive a message to say a boy has found his mum, in the cellar, dead. She has been suffocated, confetti covering her body and her ring finger, also, missing.

What is the link? Is it the man killed? Or the man who should have been there? Does the killer know he killed the wrong man?

After some searching on the internet, they finally find a link and it appears someone has been running a property scam. They were selling dream properties that were never built and the company folded with no trace now on the internet.

Who was the killer though? What was their link?

This was a great read, really got me hooked from the start and I found it hard to put down. I read it in a day! Well written, lots of descriptive writing so you felt you were really there and could picture it. I like this author’s writing and have read quite a few of her books.

What a Book Wrong Victim by Helen H Durrant was. I loVed it and was hooked from the very beginning. This is the third book in the Detective Rachel King series and they just get better and better. If you want a crime series that will have you hooked and is full of twists and turn this is the series for you.

Detective Rachel King and her team have to work fast before there's a next victim!

Whilst investigating these two murders they come across a property scam, selling dream houses that were never built. Is there a link between this and the murdered victims?

Detective Rachel King's personal life is complicated with her ex Husband who lives next door to her. He works from home and also helps to look after their teenaged daughter. Jed McAteer who was Rachel's ex Lover and the father of one of her children, has skipped town but he has an habit of popping back in Rachel's life......However, this time he wants to be in it as a permanently.

The ending of this brilliant book has an OMG ending and I am so looking forward to Book three in this series................

Then the there is another body found.
This is a continuation of the previous Rachel King books and very readable

It’s hard for me to give a good review of this book as I had not read the previous commenter books about Rachel King.
This book is really not a stand alone book, so cannot give a honest review.
I did read the book found it a bit confusing not knowing the characters, but it was well written and sorry was not read in the correct order.

These are just a few of the questions that Rachel King and her team need to find answers to but as they delve into the victim's life they open Pandora's box and are faced with shocks and more secrets than they ever expected.

Rachel King is a character who grows on you. She is in love with Jed but he lives on the wrong side of the law (or does he) so her feelings have to be kept locked inside. She relies heavily on her partner Elwyn and as everyone seems to have secrets he is the only colleague she is able to trust. In the previous book we saw her at loggerheads with Kenton, a detective from a nearby station. This very rocky relationship is carried through to this book as Rachel is forced to work with him. But can she trust him? Who can she trust?

Elwyn comes accross as the dependable type the voice of reason. He is not easily ruffled and is a perfect character to offset Rachel's lack of patience.

Jonny takes a bigger role in the story as he develops his detective skills we see more of his gut instinct come to the fore as he gains the confidence to act on his hunches.

The story is fast paced as I expect from Helen Durrant. There are many twists and turns as we are taken on a journey through mistaken identity, corruption, drugs and revenge. But knowing the why doesn't mean the who will be revealed it is all a very tangled web that Rachel and her team have to untangle to find the right path to cracking the case.

A very gripping page-turner and well deserving of the 5 stars

Wrong Victim is the third book in the series featuring D.C.I Rachel King. As I have never read the others in this series I did find it difficult to begin with as it keeps mentioning a past trafficking case, but I soon found myself engrossed.

A man’s body is found in a care home, he has been suffocated, had his wedding ring finger removed and has confetti scattered on him. When his daughter goes to identify the body she is angry as this man is not her dad, who have they been paying for, to stay in the care home?

When another victim is discovered they realise there is a link to the two as they were both involved in a property scam. Is it revenge from one of their victims?

This is definitely a series you can sink you’re teeth into. A great whodunnit that will keep you guessing until the end.

DCI King really has too much on her plate, but then so do too many of her colleagues. Top of the list is the man who is temporary replacement for the top man in the department. The current mess turns out to be related to a recent case which is not as cold as they hoped. And what a case! A souvenir killer who enjoys his assigned work, but it turns out that he was flim flammed by the first victim and that really got the force involved sooner than expected. Meticulous due diligence, plot twists, misdirection, and red herrings abound! Great read!

Helen Durrant came up with a good idea to start a murder mystery but somehow managed to lose her way as she went along, what could have been a real clever story turned out to be a bit of a run of the mill thriller. Pity as some part are really good but the main story just lets its self down.

Helen Durrant books are quick reads mainly because they are very addictive and leave you eagerly turning each page wanting to know more.
This can be read as a stand alone but I would still recommend reading the other two books for added enjoyment.

Wrong Victim is a great edition to this gripping series, really I just can’t get enough of these books!

This case is definitely one of Rachel and her teams most complicated ones yet! Especially as Rachel’s personal life, yet again, threatens to spill over into her professional with the re-emergence of Jed, the love of her life, who’s also a wanted man. Rachel also has to deal with DCI Mark Keaton, someone who she’s not sure if she can trust to add yet more drama.

I really enjoyed the fact that we got to see a little more from Rachel’s team, Elwyn, Jonny and Amy. Slowly we’re getting to know them in their own right, not just lurking about in the background.

There are two intertwined storylines in the book, truthfully they did kind of blur into one at a certain point and I did lose track of what was happening but that probably says more about my memory than the novel!

Wrong Victim is a fast paced and addictive read that is a must if you love a police procedural!

This is the latest in Helen Durrant's Manchester CID series featuring DCI Rachel King and her team that includes DS Elwyn Price, DC Amy Metcalfe and DC Jonny Farrell. Rachel is a divorced mother of two daughters, Megan and the younger Mia, living next door to her ex-husband, involved with Jed McAteer, a man with a criminal history. Rachel is involved here in the strange case of the murder by suffocation of an already dying man in a nursing home, found with a missing finger and covered in confetti. Matters taken an even odder direction when the victim's estranged daughter says he is not her father. A further murder takes place with the same MO, only this time the victim is a woman with links to a property con. This is a complex and twisted case as connections slowly emerge. This was a bit of an uneven read, although still an exciting crime read. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

Another great story from Helen Durrant. An unusual story line with a great twist at the end! Rachel King on top form. Very intriguing with different plots and twists and turns on every page, keeps you guessing to the end.

Another good addition to the Rachel King series. It started off well, fast paced and gripping but as the story went on it got a touch slower. I still enjoyed the book but I can see how some people would rate it lower because of that. It’s not the best in the series but a good book nevertheless.
