I really enjoyed this book. It was well written with well rounded characters who had their own issues but also through the course of the book grew and melded into a family. A nice ultimately feel good book.
New York florist Flora Donovan is living the dream, but her bubbly optimism hides a secret. She’s lonely. Orphaned as a child, she’s never felt like she’s belonged anywhere…until she meets Jack Parker. He’s the first man to ever really see her, and it’s life changing.
Teenager Izzy Parker is holding it together by her fingertips. Since her mother passed away a year ago, looking after her dad and little sister is the only thing that makes Izzy feel safe. Discovering her father has a new girlfriend is her worst nightmare—she is not in the market for a replacement mom. Then her father invites Flora on their summer vacation…
Flora’s heart aches for Izzy, but she badly wants her relationship with Jack to work. As the summer unfolds, Flora must push her own boundaries to discover parts of herself she never knew existed—and to find the family she’s always wanted.
I was immediately drawn to this book because of the cover which sets the scene for an easy, chilled, summer read! Sarah Morgan always writes beautiful stories and this one did not disappoint. Family for Beginners explores new beginnings, grief, loss, acceptance, love and the impact of family dynamics. A beautiful story that fulfilled all the elements I expect from a novel by Sarah Morgan.
I love Sarah Morgan books, they are pure escapism. I was hooked from the first page. Izzy is so distraught at the death of her mother. Sarah Morgan writes beautifully about the challenging elements of dealing with loss. There is lots of hidden depth in this book. Well worth a read.
Unfortunately I had to purchase a new Kindle device and could no longer access this book. I will come back and review if I read this in the future.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
What a lovely heart warming book.
Was so invested in the characters stories. Well written and a pleasure to read.
Laughed and cried,
Really enjoyed this book and devoured within 24 hours.
5 stars highly recommended.
Not my favourite book by this author. I found this one just a middle of the road chic lit book. Nothing overly exciting or Interesting happened and the storyline was forgettable.
Really enjoyed this. What a lovely heart warming family love story. Very well written and I adored the characters. Although you can kind of guess the ending, the story takes you on an emotional and loving journey. Its well worth the 5 stars.
Thank you Netgalley.
I have loved all of Sarah Morgans previous books, so when given the opportunity to read and review this beauty I jumped at the chance.
As always, the scene is so wonderfully set throughout the story that you feel as though you are there. The characters were so likeable, relatable, and perfectly brought to life in this book that you can almost feel the pain that a character is in.
This story is overflowing with love, laughter, and learning to accept the changes that life can throw at you. A perfect heartwarming read.
Thank you so much for allowing me to review this beautiful book.
I love a good Sarah Morgan read. They’re always heart warming, Family for beginners in no exception. Such a great read.
A really great read that showed the sometimes not discussed side of when someone passes away at a young age and suddenly, and the trouble that the secrets they leave behind can cause if left to brew. Another great book by Sarah Morgan.
This book is told from a couple of different perspectives. We have Flora who doesn't have any family and has been struggling with loneliness until she meets Jack. Jack has his own struggles as he tries to raise two girls following the death of his wife. His daughter Izzy is barely coping and does not want Flora to be part of their family.
I really enjoyed this book. Despite its fun cover, this book is quite an emotional read. This book dealt with loss, acceptance, and family. I thought that the author did a good job of showing how grief affects everyone differently. I really liked all of the characters in this book and thought that they were really well developed. I liked that we got to see both Flora and Izzy's POV. There is obviously a romance in this book but I felt that this book was so much more than just a romance and I loved all the elements. At first, I thought the romance was going to be a bit insta-love but it wasn't and I liked seeing it slowly develop throughout the book.
Overall I really enjoyed this one and I need to read more from Sarah Morgan.
I love Sarah Morgan’s books! Warm and fuzzy and characters you truly care about. Following their journeys feels like you’re making friends! Perfect beach read and I can’t wait for more of Sarah’s books to be published.
Thank you for the ARC.
What a fabulous story. I'm new to Sarah's books but what a fabulous I introduction. The Story of Jack and Flora who meet after his wifes died is very moving and heartfelt but also with lots of secrets. As Jack has two daughters things arnt aren't easy and there are lots of difficulties to sort out if they are ever going to become a family. Loved the characters and also the locations as for me the lake district is my special place so made this novel even more beautiful. A lovely warmhearted read loved it
Family For Beginners tells the story of Flora, a New York florist who falls in love with Jack; a recently bereaved father of two. It follows Flora and Jack as they navigate the difficulties of starting a new relationship whilst the spectre of a dead wife looms large and Jack's daughters (7 and 17) struggle to come to terms with the new family dynamic.
The book is incredibly easy to read and deals so well with what can be a difficult subject matter. Sarah Morgan doesn't shy away from discussing the guilt and resentment that bubbles up at points and at the same time the book overflows with love and hope and happiness. Its an excellent read and an authentic look into what happens when a family has to overcome tragedy and the secrets of the past and learn to look towards the future.
Thanks to HQ, Netgalley and Sarah Morgan for the ARC.
Loved this book...adored Molly and Jack and the trials and tribulations of their new relationship. Becca was ' the perfect wife & mother'...Izzy Jack's daughter struggles with the loss of her mother. She really doesn't want to like Flora...Molly her sister instantly bonds with Flora. Then there are family friends..I'm sure many people can identify with these struggles.
I thought this was brilliantly written and seemed to be very realistic to me.
A warm hearted book, well drawn characters, and a well woven tale. Thoroughly enjoyed.
A lovely easy book to read, with plenty to keep your interest. I'd recommend for a holiday beach read - if we ever get out of lockdown.
4.5 stars!
What a lovely read this was. I absolutely loved it. This is my second time reading a Sarah Morgan book and it did not disappoint.
The characters were all wonderful and so well crafted. I had a soft spot for the main three females, Izzy, Flora and Molly. I appreciated so much how the author dealt with the grief that all of the characters were facing. It captured the challenges of this emotion so well and showed the guilt and anger than can go alongside it.
I loved the budding romance between Flora and Jack, and how sensitive and understanding Flora was. She was such a wonderful character and I loved seeing her become more open and comfortable with the others. Izzy was also great and I was rooting for both her and Flora throughout the novel.
This book is focused on family and how every family is different and it was such a wholesome, heart warming and moving novel. I would definitely recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more by Sarah Morgan.
(Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review).
Sarah has expertly woven a story around Jack and Flora, where Jack is a widower and meets Flora in her workplace; a florist shop. He has two children Izzy and Molly from his previous relationship and it is the classic scenario when he introduces Flora to his girls of them being wary of her. The book builds on this first meeting to Flora being accepted into his family. There are some past secrets which are revealed as the story develops. This is bound to be another best seller for Sarah,
Review Family for Beginners by Sarah Morgan.
The story of Flora and Jack was very disappointing for me. Though a well written book in part. It gives plenty of description in some ne parts where other parts you just needed a bit more. Sorry this book was not for me. I have read Sarah Morgan before and been enthralled but this one just didn’t .
