Zoe was a bride only a month ago but it appears her new husband has betrayed her - and the evidence points to one of her three sisters being involved. I started the book without knowing anything about the story apart from the title (I have that much confidence in Shari Low's storytelling) and I absolutely loved the opening chapter which was a cracker in setting this scene.
The story then slowly reveals Zoe's past where she had her heart broken by her work colleague Tom, whilst we are left in the dark about who Zoe's husband is and which sister is implicated.
Verity, a teacher, is madly in love with Ned, another teacher at her school, but so far the feelings are unreciprocated. Nurse Yvie is run off her feet but has to be the one who smiles and keeps the family together. And Marina is the organised one, who is losing the battle keeping up the facade of the perfect family life. This is a fantastic read about sisters, which kept me guessing all the way to the end.
Not the most uplifting of titles, but certainly one that starts you turning the pages. Whilst Zoe's unfortunately short marriage draws you into this story, what you find within the pages is an excellent family drama, full of emotions, laughter, lies, loss and secrets and many poignant moments that make you think.
The characters and setting are authentic and relatable, and despite the different viewpoints and timescales, it's easy to read. You care about the characters, whilst experiencing a gamut of emotions with them.
Zoe and her three sisters are close especially after the loss they suffered as young girls. The family drama affected each of them in differing ways as they coped with it, and the resultant women are on the surface strikingly different personalities. This is a complex story, moving between the sisters' points of view and the past and present. You learn what has made them into the women they are, and the connection they have Zoe's failed marriage.
Some of the storylines are repeated, seen from a different point of view, but this part of this author's writing style and is not a negative, but a way to see why the characters are motivated to act as they do.
A lovely story of family and sisters and learning to let go of the past.
I received a copy of this book from Boldwood Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I've always thought author Shari Low is brilliant. JUST. BLOODY. BRILLIANT. I loved everything about this book.
“I just need to know...which one of you slept with my husband?”
4 sisters Zoé, Yvie, Marion, and Verity. Zoe was married a month ago, but the marriage broke up just after a month. Her husband had strayed. And she found that the hotel room was paid for Ms. Dalton, which could be ANY OF HER SISTERS. What cheek!!
I loved how the author had captured the lives of the sisters, each one so different, yet so similar in their dependence on each other. It had the sisterly bond and a bit of mystery along with the various dynamics that ran between them. Love was at the core, but sometimes taking for granted covered that. Their interactions were zingy, their secrets so delicious. It was like unwrapping each layer of the shiny paper to get to the gift. Yes, that's exactly what this book was - a gift!!
I was in a book slump and generally down with life. This book perked me right up. The need to see how the lives of the sisters progressed and which of the sisters did the dark tango between the sheets, had the gossipy part of me all livened up. And the words chosen by the author had my curiosity bouncing (pun unintended) ... It was that kinda book
For me, the book was complete. An entertainer. A way to escape my problems and calm my furrowed brow.
Secrets, Lies And Betrayal....
As a result of the end of Zoe’s very recent marriage, secrets and lies are uncovered together with a betrayal that starts very close to home- with one of her four sisters but which one ? A family drama from Shari Low and, in keeping with her previous books, this is well written with a compelling plot. This author is adept at creating very real characters and as a result drawing the reader immediately into the storyline, making for a very satisfying read.
This is the first book I’ve read by Shari Low and it was excellent. I must admit that I had to concentrate hard in the first few chapters because it hops not only between the four sisters, but also between timeframes. However, I was determined to stick with it because I was enjoying the story, and I was glad that I did.
We meet four siblings – Zoe, Marina, Yvie, Verity – a month after Zoe’s wedding, when she realises that the person with whom her new husband cheated was one of her sisters. She sets out to find out which one it was and discovers much more along the way.
I loved the style of writing, the humour and the interesting storyline, and I would highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
My One Month Marriage by new to me author Shari Low, is an emotional and exciting read. The story primarily takes place in Glasgow, combined with a luxurious trip to Ibiza and Las Vegas. The book is about the four Danton sisters, Zoe, Verity, Yvie and Marina. The sisters were never quite the same after after their father left when they were young, always relating present situations to the hurt of their pasts. Zoe is a marketing executive, Verity is a school teacher, Yvie is a nurse and Marina is a stay at home mom. Ned Merton teaches in the same school with Verity, and has slowly snaked his way into each of the sister's lives. Ned ends up in a long term relationship with Zoey, although being faithful is not a top priority. He and Zoe tie the knot, right before they abseil off a building. Their marriage lasts for one month.
I liked this book, however, at times it was a bit difficult to keep track of each sister's story-line and their respective timelines. All the characters were well-developed, and I felt like I got to know everyone of them on an intimate level. Each sister was interesting, and I loved how the bond of sisterhood ultimately superseded whatever else was going on. I shedded tears of joy and sadness as each sister determined their place in the world. Overall, a solid book in women's fiction.

It wasn't that long ago that I discovered Shari Low's books; now I wouldn't miss one and her latest is absolutely superb!
The Danton sisters are a mixed bunch but, no matter what, they have each other's backs and always have had since they pledged to stick together as teenagers, no matter what life threw in their path. However, when the only married sister, Zoe, discovers that her husband of one month betrayed her - and one of her sisters is in the frame, will they stay as close as they've always been?
Shari Low creates the most marvellous characters and I think she has excelled herself this time round. As we get to know each of the sisters we find out their very different personality traits and what makes each one tick - and it's very entertaining! This author manages to blend all aspects of life and makes it very readable indeed. With lots of fun alongside some very serious moments, I found that one moment I has a tear pricking my eye and the next I was giggling like a teenager. Absolutely terrific story, well planned out and beautifully written. Highly recommended, and earning a full five sparkly stars!
My thanks to publisher Boldwood for my copy via NetGalley, and for my spot on this blog tour. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
First of all I'd like to thank Netgalley and Boldwood Books for sharing the arc of this book with me.
This book wasn't quite the romance that it appeared to be at first. It's at heart a story of family, namely of sisters. Zoe was married a month ago and after discovering her new husband was cheating, she kicks him out. Then it comes out that it's possible one of her sisters might have been the one he cheated with. The story moves between present day, their childhood and various times in between. And the story isn't about just Zoe but all four of the sisters. We come to know them well as children and as grown-ups. Each of them has a story and they often intersect, in various ways. Each of them ends up with a connection with Zoe's husband at some point so it's interesting to see what eventuates in the story.
I really like the story even though it took a while to get people straight. With four characters sharing the limelight, it makes for a but of confusion at times. In the end I think it worked out for me because I really found myself attached and felt the connection of the sisters, despite very different personalities.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and give it a solid four stars.
A brilliant read, very true reflections of sisterhood, family and the relationships we have. The communication I think is done perfectly as anyone with siblings knows they can be our worst enemy and best friend, can drive us insane slowly but be ready to kill for you. The family relationships are just so well written , a good set of perspectives from all the sisters and covering the last few years. Such a good story , well told and addictive reading.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
My One Month Marriage by Shari Low is a story about four sisters told from their teenage years to mid thirties.
Zoe is a successful businesswoman who is sure that she found the love of her life but he dumped her to go back to his teenage crush.
Verity is a lonely school teacher who has a mad crush on her fellow coworker.
Yvie is a nurse, there for everyone, anytime she is needed but deeply unhappy and lonely.
Marina the eldest, is married with two kids and running her household with the tight fist.
We are first introduced to sisters' lives that are almost picture perfect but as we read further we get to see that that is not a case.
Each of the sisters is unhappy with their lives, with the choices they made but can seem to make a breakthrough.
The book starts at present time and goes back and forth through the years
It is an interesting story that starts with a shocking sentence that compels you to keep on reading.
It has a steady pace, at time it is a bit repetitious and slightly slower paced.
Characters are well developed and engaging with a great set of supporting characters.
Alluring and absorbing story and a great choice for chick lit fans.
Anyone with siblings knows that it’s our brothers and sisters who push our buttons the most, but also have our backs when we need them. My One Month Marriage by Shari Low tells the story of four sisters living in Scotland whose secrets from one another can either rip them apart or bring them back together again.
“I just need to know...which one of you slept with my husband?” Zoe Danton thought that getting married would help her live her happily ever after. However, after only a month, her marriage is over after discovering a devastating secret. But what makes things worse is that one of her three sisters, who are her best friends, might have been the cause of her husband’s betrayal. Has Zoe lost more than just her happily ever after?
While I think that the title is misleading, My One Month Marriage tells the beautiful and complicated lives of four sisters and their search for happiness and love.
It becomes exceedingly frustrating to read about the lack of communication between the sisters, but perhaps that’s because anyone with sisters knows how complicated your relationship can be. Ultimately, the Danton girls find that the bond of sisterhood is not easily broken and that sometimes is hardships that bring you closer together.
While the novel gets off to a slow start, about midway through you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and the pace picks up a bit. The alternating chapters was interesting since it gave the reader a broader sense of what was going on in each sisters’ life during a specific point in time and how it ultimately contributed to the situation they are in at the present. The jumping time periods and narration is a bit complex, so it’s definitely something to pay attention to, but ultimately shows how each sister is unique and how they react differently to the same events in their lives.
It was also interesting to see how the same events in their past shaped each of the sisters into the women they are in the present: Marina, who likes control over the situation; Verity, who shuts down when things get complicated; Zoe, who tries to keep the mood light; and Yvie, who tries to play peacemaker. Each sister assumes a certain role in their family and the reader sees how it affects their relationships not only with one another, but their everyday interactions. It isn’t until they are honest with each other again and break down their barriers that they begin to heal from wounds from both the past and present.
This novel is the perfect read for anyone who has siblings or has a crazy and dysfunctional family. If your expecting a romance book, then you might want to take a pass on this novel. However, My One Month Marriage is a touching story that will make you laugh, cry, and be grateful for the family that you have in this world.
Fun story about love and family with a little mystery snuck in.
The story centers around four sisters, Marina, Zoe, Verity, and Yvie and their lives. Each sister struggles with problems and life challenges but keeps up a front in front of the others. Everything comes to a head when the truth about Zoe's husband, Ned, is uncovered and each sister reveals her sordid experience with him.
The story is told from the perspective of each sister jumping from one to the other. It was a bit confusing at times and not always a smooth transition from one point of view to another. With that being said, it was a fun plot with sprinkles of humor, drama and a tiny mystery thrown in. Overall a good read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was not a book for me! However, I can see how many people would enjoy this book.
After reading the description I found myself interested but found that the book I was reading was very much not what I was expecting.
The different perspective and the jump between time made it quite difficult to "get lot in" and just enjoy the story. I found myself having to overthink.
Usually when I read a book of this nature it is because they are a nice, easy, funny ready. I didn't really feel that with this book.
I do however feel that this is just my personal opinion and that this book would do really well with a large audience. Just wasn't for me.
I’ve read many books by this author and I think she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Based in Glasgow, Scotland this is the story of four sisters – Marina, Yvie, Zoe and Verity. It begins with Zoe asking the question “which one of you slept with my husband?” The book then takes us on a journey over the past couple of years, told from each sister’s point of view, leading to the answer of the question!!
I cannot lie – I loved this book!!! By the end of the first chapter, which ends with the all-important question above, I was hooked!! All of the sisters are very similar in age, but are all completely different personalities. Marina is a super organised mum, wife and, according to how her husband treats her, a personal secretary. She begins to look at her life and wonders if this is everything! Yvie is a busy nurse who can’t seem to find love. She also feels, compared to her three slim sisters, that she’s overweight and seems to be on a permanent diet. Zoe is a complete workaholic who has only recently married to find that her husband has been sleeping with someone else. Finally, Verity is the baby of the bunch, who is head over heels in love with her work colleague, who just doesn’t seem to notice her. They are all very close until a man threatens to come between them and tear them apart.
The story of the sisters is great and I love the way each different moment in time is told from each of the sisters’ points of view as well. I’ve tried to pick my favourite sister from the group as I’ve been reading, but I just couldn’t decide and kept changing my mind from chapter to chapter as each sister gave their side of the story. All four sisters added something to the storyline and whilst you may be routing for one of them in one chapter, by the next it had all changed!!
There are many issues discussed in the book which some readers may be able to relate to and may find these are triggers. It is however, all written with a lot of love and care, with a big healthy dose of light hearted humour thrown in. To be, this isn’t your typical romance book, although it does feature some romance. It does focus on relationships quite strongly though, both personal and family ones and is jam packed full of life dramas, family issues and the kind of relationships only four close sisters can have.
The mystery of which one sister slept with Zoe’s husband is held throughout the book. The storyline gives you red herrings and dead ends until the mystery is revealed towards the end of the book when the story returns to the sisters in the present day. I completely and wholeheartedly recommend this book. It’s just full of everything that I wanted – a little bit of fun, some laughter, tender moments and the urge to grab every single sister and tell them to open their eyes as to what it going on in their lives!!! Once I had started this book, I used every opportunity I could to try and squeeze in just a few more chapters!! Read this one, and then go back and read some of the author’s other books…fab, fab, fab!!
Lots of laughs in this tale of sisters, one cheating guy and a little mystery! But sisters need to stick together and figure out what is best for the future.
I loved the other books I read by this author and I liked this one.
It's an engrossing and entertaining read that made me smile and root for the characters.
I liked the fleshed out cast of characters, the setting, and the well crafted plot.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I have loved all previous Shari Low books, so although I enjoyed it, it was much less humorous than her other books, although there are still some slight references to previous characters. This is the story of four sisters, and centres around Zoe who has been married less than a month and believes one of her sisters has slept with her husband. This was an enjoyable read, and I was interested to get to the end to she whodit!, but the humour of previous books would have made me love the book more.
2* Too messy, too busy with too many characters, and too many things going on. Flashbacks didn't help!
Tbh, I wanted to DNF this a couple of times as there was so much happening that it was a confusing read. We got a glossary of the main players, and then we got introduced to the sisters, one by one, with their present and pasts. I actually at times forgot who was who and a very serious part of their pasts, which I think was there to explain how their personalities formed, was downplayed, as was its impact on the girls. This review from this point on will contain slight spoilers.
I couldn't bring myself to like Zoe, as she came across as flighty and hard-nosed. The oldest and only married sister came across as too Stepford Wives - and, this tale is set in Glasgow, which is one of the poorer parts of the UK, and yet they all had great jobs, all had money, pretty much all were followers of fashion, and yet not one Scottish accent was seen between them? Yes, there was an 'Och' or two from Tom, who frankly, didn't need to be in the tale and his own backstory and future story felt planted and inorganic.
Why we needed to learn of the hotelier and his wife, of Tom and his ex and their wedding, why the groom turned out to be such a gross character, and yet seemingly managed to keep it all under wraps and had everyone wrapped round his little finger, didn't ring true. The tale felt like it needed a good editor to weed out all the dross, cut away at least one non-essential sister, drop the mother and her succession of BFs, make the characters likable, and maybe I might have enjoyed it. It needed at least an soupcon of RL, as this really was no UK as I know it, and I'm from London, where at least some of what supposedly transpired might have been relatable.
As it was, I was pretty bored, as I couldn't connect with even one character. And the title is such a misnomer that it might qualify for being done under some misrepresentation clause of something somewhere.

There may be few certainties in life, but here’s one I’m slowly learning to count on: if Shari Low rights a book? I will enjoy it. And My One Month Marriage proves it.
The story
You know that ‘till death do us part’ bit in the wedding vows? Well Zoe Dalton believed it. She walked up the aisle thinking that she was strolling to her happy ever after.
One month later, her heart is in pieces, she’s returning the wedding gifts and there’s a husband-shaped space next to her in bed. He’s gone, after Zoe discovered a devastating secret.
But Zoe has lost so much more than her marriage. Her three sisters are not only her siblings, they’re her best friends too.
Now she’s discovered that one of them may have been the reason her husband betrayed her.
She’s lost her happy ever after, but has she lost a sister too?
The opinion
First of all – the description of this book is a bit confusing – some might even go as far as to say: misleading. As is usually the case with Shari Low’s books, My One Month Marriage focuses on several characters, who’s stories are linked together in ways that are sometimes more, and sometimes less obvious.
For example, if you read Low’s Another Day in Winter, you will remember Tom – who is, in a way, the instigator for a lot of the happenings in this book. Those glimpses into the “happily ever after” of characters I already fell in love with? That might have been enough to make me like this book.
Shari Low, though, goes above and beyond. I’m not quite sure how she manages to keep track of so many parallel time lines, of so many twists and turns (although I’m imagining something like a master spread sheets and a lot of post-its could have something to do with it?). However, she manages to interweave the four (and a bit) storylines beautifully, unveiling exactly who the four sisters are and what they stand for in the perfect way.
Those sisters are probably one of the biggest reasons I really enjoyed this book. Are they always likeable? No! Absolutely not, even. But as you get to see their reflections, their insecurities, their relationships, both individually and as a group… It’d be rather hard not to root for them. Taking into account that last, final twist? Well – it had me kinda shook. And wanting to reread the entire thing immediately!
The rating: 4/5
If you’re in the mood for a romantic story with just that little bit more, My One Day Marriage is your thing. Perfectly paced, interesting characters – and of course: at least three more books in the same universe, to check out afterwards!

Unfortunately, I found that this book's blend of chick lit and mystery just didn't gel for me. The first few chapters introduce multiple narrators, the main character and her three sisters, and unfolds into a not very compelling mystery - which of the sisters has betrayed the main character with her husband. Frankly reader, I just didn't care. And switching between narrators was just too tedious for me. I like chick lit as a genre and mysteries as a genre, but not in this blend. Perhaps it will be to someone else's liking.
(I don't post negative reviews to GoodReads or social media, so I will not be able to provide a link.)
