Yet another good read from the pen of Harlan Coben, never disappoints. New strange mysterious hero but not spoilt by making him into some sort of super hero just strange with a story of his own to tell which no doubt we find out more about in the next of the series because no doubt there will be a follow up to this one. The theme of this story is believable and throws doubts about the truth you read, see and hear true lay makes you think, and there’s a twist in the tale in fact two. Overall well worth reading
I absolutely loved this book. It was quick to get into and I genuinely didn't want to put it down until it was finished.
Another great story from Harlan, fast paced and full of twists. Didnt
see the ending coming at all!
Hester is a great character.
I thought i knew what to expect going into this but wow was i wrong. Harlan Coben delivered an exciting and complex story that kept me gripped. So much so i stayed up till the early hours of the morning to finish it. Wilde is a great character and i loved his relationship with his godson Matthew. The story was fresh and compelling and could have been plucked from the headlines. I hope to read more about Wilde in future books.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book but felt the title was a bit misleading as although Wilde- the boy from the woods- features heavily the story is not really about him and how he came to be alone in the woods.
That said it is a great read with a great plot and many doubts thrown in about motives and what is really happening with the missing teens along with some stinging repartee from Hester.
As a longtime fan of Harlen Coben this latest did not disappoint!
I am a Harlan Coben, own all of his books and have reread most of them. Being approved for this new title was fantastic and I was hooked from page one.
This book showed a previous character Hester Crimstein lawyer extraordinaire and introduced Wilde, The boy in the woods. Wilde’s best friend was Hester’s son and she keeps in touch with him. When her grandson approaches her as a school mate is missing Hester asks Wilde have a look. Wilde has an exceptional skill set but his investigation causes some people to become worried and then a second child goes missing.
I also liked the references to characters from previous books.
This was a fantastic read and had me hooked from page one. I finished it in two days and was then a bit lost because it was finished. Can’t wait for the next book!
Thanks to Random House and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thirty years ago, a child was found in the New Jersey backwoods. He had been living a feral existence, with no memory of how he got there or even who he is. Everyone just calls him Wilde. Now a former soldier and security expert, he lives off the grid, shunned by the community – until they need him. A child has gone missing. With her family suspecting she’s just playing a disappearing game, nobody seems concerned except for criminal attorney Hester Crimstein. She contacts Wilde, asking him to use his unique skills to find the girl. But even he can find no trace of her. One day passes, then a second, then a third. On the fourth, a human finger shows up in the mail. Now Wilde knows this is no game. It’s a race against time to save the girl’s life – and expose the town’s dark trove of secrets.
So this pains me to write this, it really does, but I did not enjoy this latest offering from Coben. It is sorely lacking Coben's magic touch of humour and wit. I am going to say it early and get it over with but bring back Myron Bolitar.
Anyway, back to this read and the plot is okay, although I was bored and the plot description gives a false impression of events. I probably would have enjoyed this more had there been some humour throughout. I adore Coben for bringing entertainment and laughs to a thriller and I just missed this throughout.
Wilde is a very interesting character and I enjoyed the bits with him in, however he has a fascinating backstory that I did not think had been fully explored. A book focusing more on Wilde would have been much better in my opinion.
'The Boy from the Woods' is okay but nowhere near my favourite read from Coben and I was left disappointed. Fingers crossed for the next offering.
Thank you to NetGalley and Century for an advance copy.
Another brilliant book from this talented author. A unique story with many twists and turns. It is fast paced and draws you in from the start. Definitely recommend.
Another exiting page turner by Harlan Coben. This is another one that didn't disappoint. How does Harlan Coben deliver time and time again with each book fresh and new ideas.
This one is about Wilde a name given to a boy found in the woods of which no one seems to know anything about. Adopted and befriended by a family and much later out of the armed forces joined up with an adopted sister,to form an investigation business. Contacted by his dead friends son Mathew concerned about a young girl being bullied at school ,a class mate of Mathew, who has now disappeared.
Soon things start getting twisted and turned and all is certainly not what is seems. The reader is lead through bad old deeds resurfacing ,political skulduggery and kidnap ransoms.
Breathless stuff. A great read fast moving.
This is a very carefully crafted story which will keep you reading up to the unexpected ending. Wilde, the main character, was found in the woods as a boy with no apparent family yet he could read and had survival skills. Now a respected adult,he is crucial to solving the mystery of the disappearance of two teenagers who might or might not be together. All the characters are believable, from the teenagers to the self- entitled posh folk. As you would expect from this author,it is written to hold your attention and there is no unnecessary description. I strongly recommend it.
If I could give this book a million stars I would. Tremendous. As per the norm with Harlan Coben, who just gets better and better. Loved it. I love Hester and I loved the character of Wilde. Brilliant xx
This book is a really excellent read. There are several both interesting and complex characters within it with a number of developing stories that seem to develop simultaeneously. This keeps the pace of the book really interesting and I found that I could not wait to get back to reading it.The ending really surprised me and as with all good books I wa sorry to see it end.
I have provided no spoilers or indications as to the story. My advice is to read it, you won't be disappointed.
An absolutely brilliant thriller with amazing plot twists. As always Harlan Coban has written an amazing book that’s had me hooked from the start. Love his work.
30 years ago a boy was found living in the New Jersey woods. This boy, Wilde, has no recollection of how he got there nor for how long.
Wilde is godfather to Matthew, a teenage boy who also happens to be the grandson of Hester Crimstein. If you have read other Coben books, you will know who she is - and understand why I was so excited when she popped up.
A girl from Matthew's class at school goes missing and he asks Hester for help in finding her and Hester then enlists the help of Wilde.
With a powerful, wealthy family added to the mix and a presidential runner with secrets they want to keep hidden, this is a book that just doesn't stop.
The plot is intricate and intriguing with many subplots and twists. Some of the twists I could see coming, but had no way of knowing how it was going to pan out and others took me completely by surprise.
I loved every second of this book and I really hope that we will get to meet some of the characters again.
A fast paced thriller interspersed with some good one-liners. Do people “Reach Out” so often in America? Wilde was an interesting guy, special forces trained but wasn’t a good shot? Not a good driver either. However, he did have some interesting skills picked up as a boy running wild through the forests. A highly readable book with a few nice twists at the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can see why Harlan Coben is such a popular author. The story is gripping, and the characters, whilst a little cliched, and well-drawn, with entertaining and realistic dialogue. The ending came as a complete surprise, and I would definitely recommend this book.
My first read by Harlan Coben and I just loved it, such a complex plot line which kept me on my toes throughout and wonderful writing to boot, everything you want from an intelligent and compulsive thriller.
Many different storylines going on here which are obviously going to connect, Wilde the boy who was found in the woods now an adult who is he ?..... the missing girl Naomi what is going on the there and my favourite character Hester Crimstein what a feisty woman she is and I especially loved the dalliance with the police chief Oren !!
The twists come slowly in the book and the tension builds as the stories unfold little by little making it a fabulous read and this certainly won’t be me last read by this brilliant author I was most most impressed by the quality of the book.
So highly recommended and I expect this will a huge hit.
My thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone, Century for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben is a fantastic thriller with a serious plot twist! I have loved reading Mr. Cobens’ works for years and he has become one of my favourite, dependable, go-to-authors: you expect a first-class thrilling ride and that’s what you get!
The plot of this novel is intricate and surprising and progresses at just the right speed. Clues are slowly dispensed as the story unfolds and each one adds up to a brilliant multi-story compendium.
The character development is intense but subtle at the same time. I loved getting to know Hester so intimately, and her old-fashioned romance with Oren was just beautiful! And of course, I fell in love with Wilde. I enjoyed engaging with some characters and despised others, and that’s the kind of emotional connection you want in a novel.
