I know when I begin a Katie Reus book, that there will be excellent characters and an exciting page turning story. This one did not disappoint, even if I read it as a stand alone.

Ellie is embarrassed about her past, an alcoholic father and apathetic mother and poor decisions when she was 17. But now she has a great job and boss, a wonderful boyfriend in Jay Wentworth and friends. Until her past comes back to bite her, in the form of her ex who was released from jail and threatens her and all those she loves. Her first impulse is to run, but her boss, Wyatt Christiansen and Jay are on to her and as the whole company, Serafina, is all ex-Navy they have what it takes to protect her and get the bad guys.

I read an advance reader's copy via NetGalley.com. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I was not aware of the subgenre of romance this book explored. If I did, I probably would not have requested it. I don't enjoy suspense or action in my romance and even so, the action in this romance specifically was subpar.

My favourite part was the chemistry between Ellie and Jay. Mainly because I love alpha male heroes. Other than that, this is not a memorable read for me.

Ellie and Jay live together and love each other.. He's ready to propose, and then she up and leaves when her past reemerges. Jay finds her and they have to fight off the bad guys.

This was a sweet little addition to the Serafina Series. With lots of moving parts packed into a short little novella, this made for a quick read. Add in the smoking hot chemistry between Jay and Ellie, this had all the ingredients needed for a satisfying read. My one issue was that Ellie skirted dangerously into TSTL territory with her actions in the beginning, which was unusual in a Katie Reus read, at least for me. In fact, when it happened, I ended up putting the book down and didn't pick it up for awhile. Thankfully, once I got back into it, things progressed rapidly and I was back to liking Ellie and by the end, I was glad I'd found my way back to the story.

I was skeptical of this series because it’s outside my norm, but I love Katie Reus’ books. I must read the other books in this series. It was so good, not that I am surprised. Jay and Ellie are amazing. I love the chemistry between them, he is the ultimate protector, but she needs to protect him. I loved the face-paced nature of this book and hope the rest of the series is as good.

The note on the kitchen table shatters Jay Wentworth’s world into bits. Ellie is his lover, his soulmate, his best friend…she’s the woman who stood by him through the aftermath of a horrible explosion, the woman he’s planning to propose to. He’d do anything for her…except let her go. With his fierce protectiveness kicked into overdrive, he teams up with Ellie’s Hotel Serafina boss, billionaire Wyatt Christiansen, to find her. Ellie is family at the casino and they take care of their own. Ellie is devastated when her secret past finally catches up with her. Stupid to think she could bury the mistakes of her youth and find happiness with a good man. Leaving Jay rips her heart to shreds, but it’s the only way she can protect him from the dangerous people she once ran with. And deep down, she fears he’ll never be able to forgive her for hiding her past from him. The closer Jay gets to the truth about Ellie, the deeper he plunges into danger. He’ll move heaven and earth to save her, but if she can’t trust in Jay’s love it might be too late for both of them.
This was a great story by a great author. I’ve read a number of her books and they don’t disappoint. I really liked both main characters as well as the plot. I recommend.

Please NOTE: I previously read this release in 2014

4.25 stars-- SENSUAL SURRENDER is the second storyline in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult, romantic, suspense -The Serafina: Sin City Series. The focus of the series is on the men and women who work at the exclusive Las Vegas resort and hotel The Serafina. This is Ellis and Jay’s story. Ellie is the personal assistant to billionaire hotel mogul Wyatt Christiansen and Jay works security at the hotel.

The premise follows Ellie as she is determined to protect the people and the man that she loves from her past. But her past has come calling and Ellie is on the run. Handing in her resignation fuels the curiosity and concern of everyone at the Serafina when Ellie pushes everyone away in search for a solution to a debt that she owes. Ellie’s attempts to right a wrong, set into motion, a series of events that will end in tragedy-one way or another.

The relationship between Ellie and Jay started in a previous storyline. Now lovers and so much more, the sexual heat is strong between the couple; their lovemaking is sensual; but there is still the unspoken question of trust-why hadn’t Ellie come to Jay with her problem?

Katie Reus pulls the reader into a storyline of mystery and suspense; heartbreak and betrayal; getting rich and the bottom line. Sensual Surrender looks at the illegal side of life in Sin City where power and money mean the ultimate control. Ellie is caught between a life with the man that she loves and a life she thought she had left behind.

Sensual Surrender is a welcome addition to The Serafina: Sin City Series. There is a little bit of mystery; a little bit of suspense; and a whole lot of sex and romance rolled into a story where the past meets the present and could very well affect the future.

This is the first book that I read from the series, I don't know how good were the previous books but this was for me like boring. I like to read suspense but this one lasted for about 2 seconds. I love it when the love between two characters develops but in this one, they are already together. So what is left in this book to be interesting? For me, not a lot and that is why the book received so low rate.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

The Story in 4 Sentences or Less: When Ellie gets a call from someone in her past threatening her new life with Jay Wentworth, she panics, leaves a breakup note, and tries to run. She doesn’t get very far before Jay catches up with her and with the help of Ellie’s billionaire boss Wyatt, hatch a plan to eliminate the threat to Ellie for good. That way she and Jay can figure out if they have a future together or not.

Like It? Hate it? Love it? Why? Here’s the thing, Sensual Surrender is an older book of Reus’ that was up for review again because she’s continuing the series with CHARACTER’S NAME book this year so I decided to check it out.

Normally I’m all over a Katie Reus book like a cheap suit, and I liked Sensual Surrender just fine BUT I didn’t love it or the main characters like I usually do.

First off, I wasn’t too keen on Ellie as a heroine. She was too immature, too impulsive, and I just couldn’t get on board with her decision to run away from Jay when not only had he shown her in every way that he was always going to have her back, but he was more than qualified to help her. Heck, Ellie was surrounded by people who had the skills and connections to track down whoever was threatening her. I just couldn’t find a way to find her reasoning believable. At all.

And Jay, well, I liked him well enough as a character but that caveman routine just doesn’t work for me. Being protective of Ellie is one thing but he definitely skirted the line between attractive alpha and unattractive control freak. There’s a significant age difference between him and Ellie and while that normally doesn’t bother me, it did in this case. I didn’t feel like the relationship was between two independent equals, but more like a case of protector/damsel. Not that it wasn’t hot between them but outside of the bedroom, I didn’t feel like Ellie had much of a personality.

And the way the conflict was resolved towards the end was a little unsettling to me. It’s one thing to eliminate the threat, it’s another to make a choice that is more suited to the villain.

Click It or Skip It? Depends. I have always loved Reus’ books and while I liked the high suspense in this one, I wasn’t crazy about the lead characters.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

Jay is almost ready to propose to Ellie. She has been his rock and helped him get back to top shape. She makes him want forever. But Ellie's past has caught up with her and her ex wants what she kept from him. And he wants it NOW. Ellie refuses to drag Jay into her murky past and attempts to go it alone. But Jay and her boss, Wyatt, have no intention of leaving her flapping in the wind on her own!

Jewel heists, stolen plans, dirty money - what has Ellie got herself into! Great story and engaging characters. Vegas itself is a character. I loved Jay and his will-do attitude. He has no intention of letting Ellie go, he just has to get her to see that he's in for the long haul. As a former SEAL he doesn't know the meaning of the word failure.

Ellie is deeply in love with Jay Wentworth and he with her. She'd like nothing more than to spend the rest of her life with him, however, when her ex-boyfriend, who's supposed to still be in prison, comes calling, she realizes that her happily ever after is in jeopardy. She runs but it's not for long because Jay was willing to do whatever it took, use all of his skills as a former SEAL, to protect the woman he loves... whether she wants him to or not.

Sensual Surrender was an adventure in schemes, manipulation, and criminal undertakings. It was indeed sensual, set against the backdrop of a sting operation. I've never read anything from Katie Reus before. I'm a huge fan of all things suspenseful and thriller-like and after getting her as a recommendation again and again, I took the plunge. No Regrets! I've now found a new go-to for my suspenseful binging needs.

Great story. I always enjoy stories by Katie Reus, and look forward to all her books. This title was older, but we'll worth reading. I have read the other books in the series, and knew what the final outcome was, there were still surprises I didn't know about.

Jay is yummy. Ellie has a past of stupid choices. When Ellie’s past comes back for a threat and request, she tries to save all that she loves from danger and disappointment. It doesn’t work out like she planned a she ends up with her whole acquired family on her side to fight her past. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read more from Katie Reus. As long as she keeps bringing me yummy men, I’ll keep being her biggest fan!

Ellie is Jays girl. She also works for one of the richest men in the state. When Ellie’s past life catches up to her can the men in her life keep her safe? Will Jay still love her when he finds out her secret? These are answers you can only get by reading the book. Short stories or long, supernatural or suspense this author will keep you entertained no matter what she writes. I love all her books and never disappointed!

Sensual Surrender by Katie Reus is book Two in The Serafina: Sin City Series. This is the story of Jay and Ellie. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book. Ellie was young and dumb just like all of us but her mistakes keep coming back to her present. Ellie is in a happy place where she has a job she loves, friends and a hot boy friend. But then her past comes back again and she does what she always does..runs. But this time her new friends and Jay aren't letting her go.
Enjoyed their story.

Another great story by one of my favorite authors. Perfect blend of suspense, romance, action, and steamy moments. This spin off series is one of my favorites. The characters are interesting. Jay and Ellie are one of my favorite couples. This can be read as a standalone as well. I'm really excited for a couple of the other characters to get there own stories, Vadim and Cody are intriguing.
